The Seattle Seahawks were so close to making the playoffs last season, they could taste it.
In case you missed it, Mike MacDonald's club finished the year with a 10-7 record just like the NFC West Division leading Los Angeles Rams. To add insult to injury, Seattle split the season series 1-1 with LA.
Still, due to NFL tiebreaker rules — notably 'strength of victory' — Matthew Stafford's squad advanced while the Seahawks stayed home.
So, the team got busy this offseason.
Over the past few months, general manager John Schneider signed Pro Bowl quarterback Sam Darnold and star divisional rival wideout Cooper Kupp along with veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and longtime Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.
In their wake, they leave fan favorites Geno Smith, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett behind, all of whom are no longer with the Seahawks.
And, now, that the 2025 schedule has officially been released, we now know what the Seahawks' path to the postseason looks like this year.
To get there, they'll need to come up big at home against divisional rivals San Francisco 49ers (Sept. 7) and Los Angeles Rams (Dec. 18) as well as playoff powerhouses like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 5), Houston Texans (Oct. 20) and a Nov. 30 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings (which should be a big game considering Darnold defected from the Purple People Eaters after a career year to come to Seattle).
If you consider yourself part of 'the 12' and want to be there to witness the action live, tickets are available for all eight 2025 home games at Seattle's Lumen Field as of today on Vivid Seats.

Cowboys Ex Amari Cooper Might Be 'Done' Barring Major Training Camp Change

Cowboys Ex Amari Cooper Might Be 'Done' Barring Major Training Camp Change originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - It's a weird thing to note about a guy who has been to the Pro Bowl five times, but the track record says it's true: The acquisitions of Amari Cooper, every time, never quite work out very well. Advertisement The Amari move of 2019? Nope, it didn't work out the way the Dallas Cowboys envisioned. Close, but no cigar. His time in Cleveland, where Dallas trade-dumped him? Nope, because the Browns eventually turned around and did the same with him in moving him to Buffalo. And that 2024 midseason Amari trade? That didn't work out the way the Bills has envisioned it, either, with the big-name never really taking off in Joe Brady's offense. Granted, Cooper came in midseason and then had an injury, which isn't ideal when you are coming to a new team, as Amari was playing catch-up the entire time. So he's a free agent. And has been for months. Advertisement Teams that might've had an interest - including the teams that know him best - have gone in the other direction. The Cowboys had a need at wideout and so they traded for George Pickens. The Bills had a need at wideout and so they signed Joshua Palmer. ... and then they signed Elijah Moore, who used to play third fiddle to Amari in Cleveland. USA Today has been among the outlets not understanding what's happening here, recently writing, "He offers a veteran presence and consistency for a team searching for a proven player to add to their receiving room." That's what some in the media and some NFL fans think. Advertisement But as Amari turns 31 this month, the NFL is telling you - and him - their truth. Consider this telling review from one of his own former coaches from earlier this offseason. "Amari is done. That's not me talking," NFL insider Matthew Berry of NBC Sports posted on X. "That's from an offensive coach of a former team of his I spoke to at the combine." Is that true? Dallas is aware of what we at the time called "shrinkage,'' when Amari simply didn't come up big enough in big moments. Buffalo had to think about the production that Amari gave them last year as Cooper totaled just 297 yards and two touchdowns from 20 receptions in eight regular-season games and had six games for 41 yards in three playoff outings. ... in a postseason during which he was essentially benched. Advertisement When we add this fact, that in six of his Bills games, while playing with MVP QB Josh Allen, he had 12 or fewer yards? We're not saying Amari Cooper is done. But pending some team maybe calling him as a training camp move due to roster injury? The NFL is sort of saying Amari Cooper is done. Cooper Kupp discusses first day at Seahawks OTA's

For the first time in his career, one of the newest Seattle Seahawks' - wide receiver Cooper Kupp - is participating in an Organized Team Activities session with a new team. Kupp, who signed with the Seahawks in March, is playing on only the second team in this league, after spending every season up to this point with the Los Angeles Rams. The first of Seattle's nine OTA practices began on Tuesday, and the MVP of Super Bowl LVI spoke to the media about his new experience. This was first reported by John Boyle of Kupp said: "It felt good. Everyone's learning a new offense, coming in after a few weeks, and it's the first time running against people, it's always different—you can run things on air all the time, but there's nothing like getting out there, 11 on 11, thinking fast and making decisions and all that. The energy was great, guys are excited, and that's all you can ask for on Day 1." Advertisement Despite Kupp playing in a similar style of offense as Klint Kubiak's, he's still going to have to learn a new system. One way for him to do so is to lean on his new quarterback, Sam Darnold. In 2023, Darnold spent a year with the San Francisco 49ers, and Kubiak was on staff as the Niners' passing game coordinator. Darnold does have a key understanding of what Kubiak's offense looks like and what he is trying to accomplish in Seattle. According to Kupp, Darnold has been "awesome" at helping him get up to speed. "The insights that he (Darnold) shares and the confidence he has in being able to say, 'Hey, these are the things that have worked in this offense' in terms of how we've operated and how he's operated, and being able to collaborate together and figure out what that looks like for us as we put this team together—this skill group, this offensive line, this quarterback group, as we get together and figure out what we're going to be about, to be able to have that collaborative talking, it's been really good." This is also why I find it difficult to imagine Jalen Milroe will end up winning the starting quarterback spot at any point this year, save for injuries to Darnold or a complete meltdown from him. Darnold has several legs up on Milroe in terms of experience and familiarity with Kubiak's system. No. 14 is going to take the reigns in 2025. Will it remain as such next season? Who's to say... but for now, this is Darnold's team. This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Seahawks offseason: WR Cooper Kupp discusses first day of OTA practice

With Jaire Alexander now on the market, time is ticking for the Dolphins' corners

The Miami Dolphins cornerbacks' time to prove themselves is slowly ticking away. On Monday, the Green Bay Packers released two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, instantly improving the free agent market that includes Rasul Douglas, Stephon Gilmore and Asante Samuel Jr. And with mandatory minicamp to start Tuesday, the current crop of Dolphins outside corners could have just three days to get it together before reinforcements are brought in. 'I've said to the group a couple times, 'I have a depth chart to fill out, can you help me out with it?'' Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said May 28. 'But realistically, we're far from establishing what that is at any position. Yes, there's guys that are not going to get beaten out, but the biggest thing is I want people to show me who they are. I don't like looking at a guy, looking at their name plate and judging them off of last year, the year before. I want to see how they compete and what they do with the opportunity.' The Dolphins' cornerback situation has been muddied ever since Jalen Ramsey and the team mutually agreed to part ways in April. That left several practice squad players (Isaiah Johnson, Ryan Cooper Jr.), a 2023 second-round pick (Cam Smith), a rookie (Jason Marshall Jr.), a handful of undrafted guys (Ethan Bonner, Storm Duck, BJ Adams, Ethan Robinson and Kader Kohou) and few aged veterans (Artie Burns and Kendall Sheffield), all of whom, outside of Kohou, a nickel corner, haven't been consistent starters in their careers or in quite some time. And although Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has unsuccessfully tried to find a trade partner for Ramsey, who will not participate in minicamp, he did pledge to sign another outside corner. 'We've had a number of conversations with players – veteran free agents that are good football players,' Grier said April 26 after the NFL Draft. 'We've had a number of conversations. Those will continue and we'll see if we can get something done.' A new cornerback has become even more of a necessity considering how the position fared in organized training activities. Despite consensus No. 1 receiver Tyreek Hill solely running routes uncovered as his surgically repaired wrist recovers, wideouts made quick work of corners in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 drills. Receiver Jaylen Waddle particularly shined during the scrimmage portion of practice, though he played it off in front of the media. 'They look extremely good,' Waddle said of the corners June 3. 'I'm not going to lie to y'all, they are making it really tough on the receivers. They are playing true to their technique. I think they are doing a good job of taking what they do in individual to when we go into team.' The only question then becomes price. Alexander's most recent deal paid him an average salary of $21 million per year. Grier, on the other hand, has only given modest contracts this late in the offseason, the most recent examples being defensive tackle Calais Campbell (one-year, $2 million) and edge rusher Emmanuel Ogbah (one-year, $3.25 million) ahead of the 2024 season. Then comes the question of availability. Despite his Pro Bowl status, Alexander's injury history during the past four seasons should concern the Dolphins. In 2021, he played only four games with a shoulder injury and while he returned in 2022 to earn a Pro Bowl, he has only started a combined 14 games during the past two seasons. That's not a good sign for the Dolphins, a team that lacks depth at the outside corner spot. Still, Alexander has snagged 12 interceptions and forced three fumbles during his seven-year career. He has also posted 70 pass deflections and 287 combined tackles.
