The Seattle Seahawks were so close to making the playoffs last season, they could taste it.
In case you missed it, Mike MacDonald's club finished the year with a 10-7 record just like the NFC West Division leading Los Angeles Rams. To add insult to injury, Seattle split the season series 1-1 with LA.
Still, due to NFL tiebreaker rules — notably 'strength of victory' — Matthew Stafford's squad advanced while the Seahawks stayed home.
So, the team got busy this offseason.
Over the past few months, general manager John Schneider signed Pro Bowl quarterback Sam Darnold and star divisional rival wideout Cooper Kupp along with veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling and longtime Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence.
In their wake, they leave fan favorites Geno Smith, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett behind, all of whom are no longer with the Seahawks.
And, now, that the 2025 schedule has officially been released, we now know what the Seahawks' path to the postseason looks like this year.
To get there, they'll need to come up big at home against divisional rivals San Francisco 49ers (Sept. 7) and Los Angeles Rams (Dec. 18) as well as playoff powerhouses like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Oct. 5), Houston Texans (Oct. 20) and a Nov. 30 showdown with the Minnesota Vikings (which should be a big game considering Darnold defected from the Purple People Eaters after a career year to come to Seattle).
If you consider yourself part of 'the 12' and want to be there to witness the action live, tickets are available for all eight 2025 home games at Seattle's Lumen Field as of today on Vivid Seats.

Ranking the Seahawks' 3 potential CB fits in free agency

Ranking the Seahawks' 3 potential CB fits in free agency The Seattle Seahawks are still expected to sign a veteran cornerback before training camp begins. With mandatory minicamp on the horizon, general manager John Schneider could ramp up his interest in a cover-man. The Green Bay Packers released Pro Bowl corner Jaire Alexander from his contract, potentially adding another name to Schneider's list. With Rasul Douglas and Shaquill Griffin still lurking as options, we've ranked these three cornerbacks from most to least desirable for Seattle. Rasul Douglas The Seahawks hosted Rasul Douglas on a free-agent visit earlier this offseason. Douglas' aggressive mindset and veteran experience would make him a terrific fit in Macdonald's defense. He should be Schneider's primary target at the position. Shaquill Griffin Griffin arguably played the best football of his career with the Seahawks from 2017-2020. The former UCF standout has struggled to replicate that form since, but a reunion could make sense given the familiar surroundings. Griffin played in all 17 games for the Minnesota Vikings in 2024, snagging two interceptions and recording 41 total tackles. Jaire Alexander Alexander doesn't qualify as a realistic target for the Seahawks. He's already reportedly garnered interest from flashier potential destinations such as the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens. The Seahawks are simply looking for depth behind Riq Woolen, Josh Jobe, and Devon Witherspoon. Alexander wants to be a starter.

Washington Star Terry McLaurin Makes Major Announcement Ahead of Commanders Mini-Camp

Going into the 2025 NFL season, the Washington Commanders are a popular pick to be one of the best teams in the conference, if not the entire NFL. Thanks to the play of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels a year ago, the Commanders made a surprising run to the NFC Championship game and became one of the most exciting young teams in the league. However, there might be some trouble brewing in Washington D.C. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Pro Bowl wide receiver Terry McLaurin would be holding out and not attending the Commanders' mandatory mini-camp over an ongoing contract dispute with the team. McLaurin has been away from the team throughout OTAs this spring as well as he continues to lobby for a new contract, and that absence will continue this summer at mini-camp until they can figure something out. McLaurin is in the final year of his three-year contract that was signed with Washington, and is set to earn $19.65 million in 2025. However, with the mini-camp holdout, the two-time Pro-Bowler will accrue fines of over $100k in order to send a message to the team that he is serious about getting paid. If the two sides can not come to an agreement, there is the potential that a trade takes place. Teams around the league like the Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers have been floated as potential landing spots should that happen. In six years with Washington, McLaurin has 6,379 yards and 38 touchdowns. He was the top target for Daniels, who was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, catching 82 passes for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, a career year. If the Commanders are to make the deep run in 2025 and 2026 that many are projecting, McLaurin will likely need to be a big part of it. Jonnu Smith no-show at Dolphins minicamp, Zach Sieler in attendance

The Miami Dolphins will seemingly close out the off-season program without one of the team's top players. Dolphins Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith — who led the Dolphins in receptions (88) last year and set franchise records for tight end productivity in receiving yards and touchdowns — was nowhere to be found Tuesday, seemingly skipping out on the mandatory team activity, which escalates concerns about his contract and future with the team. On the other hand, leading defensive tackle Zach Sieler, who has produced 20 sacks in the past two seasons and is a crucial component of the Dolphins' line, was in attendance, despite the fact he, too, has been in contract discussions with the team. 'We've been in communication, but I don't want to get into the personal details,' head coach Mike McDaniel said at Tuesday morning's press conference. 'We are focused on building the Dolphins today, and anything outside of that would be a distraction.' McDaniel did not confirm whether Smith would face the upwards of $105,000 fines for missing minicamp, although he did note that Jalen Ramsey's absence is excused. In the 2024 season, Smith emerged as a pivotal weapon in Miami's offense, setting franchise records for a tight end with 88 receptions, 884 receiving yards, and eight touchdowns. He was also the Dolphins' lone Pro Bowl selection last season. After this breakout year, Smith is reportedly looking for more — hoping to cash in and rework his two-year deal, which is worth $8.4 million. After all, he's a record-setting tight end and still doesn't rank among the 30 highest-paid at his position league-wide considering he'll make less than $4.1 million this season if his contract isn't addressed. 'A lot has been written and said about Jonnu over the past week or so,' Smith's agent Drew Rosenhaus said during his weekly segment on WSVN-7 prior to Tuesday morning's first mini camp practice. Notably, Rosenhaus additionally represents Sieler. 'I'll just say that right now Jonnu's situation is fluid. We are in discussions with the Dolphins, and I'm just going to leave it at that.' Evidently, the conversations continue, as the Dolphins and Steelers continue conversations about trading Smith to Pittsburgh, where he'd be reunited with his former offensive coordinator. As the Dolphins pinch pennies, they appeared to have a similar problem with Sieler, whom McDaniel said has attended every OTA day, but has skipped the on-field work for unclarified reasons. On and off the field, Sieler has been a cornerstone of the defense, recording 10 sacks for the second consecutive year and earning 2024 team MVP honors. Despite the ongoing conversations between the two parties and his visible absence from field work, Sieler was expected to participate in Tuesday's work. However, McDaniel couldn't specify how much he'd do. As both Sieler and Smith approach 30 years old — which is often seen as the twilight of an NFL career — they remain some of the league's biggest bargains. Sieler's $10.2 million average salary ranked 50th among defensive linemen when he extended his contract in 2023 through this season. 'My job is to react and control my controllables and make sure that people are moving in one direction appropriately,' McDaniel said of all the trading and contract negotiation rumors. 'And so the Business is business. The opportunity that business does provide in the off season is a rep to the team about handling noise— things that don't have to do with what you're actually there to do, and you should be focused on doing.'
