Spotify quietly rolls out secret button to fix hated feature & fans say ‘thank god finally' after finding hidden setting

SPOTIFY has quietly rolled out a brand new button that fixes one of the app's most controversial features.
Music fans are raving over the new addition – but you'll have to dive deep into Spotify settings to find it.
It's linked to the Smart Shuffle feature, which landed back in 2023.
The feature is meant to shuffle in recommended tracks when you're listening to dedicated playlists – even ones you've made yourself.
Spotify promised that the feature would "breathe new life" into playlists, and give you a "fresh mix" every time.
But if you didn't want to use Smart Shuffle, you'd have to tap several times to switch it off.
Now you can simply turn Smart Shuffle off altogether, letting you enjoy a pure shuffle mode that only uses songs from the playlist.
And you can still use "linear" playback to just listen to the songs in playlist order, if you prefer.
MUSIC TO THEIR EARS?
Spotify made a big announcement when the feature first launched, even forcing it as the default option on millions of users.
The streaming giant justified the decision by saying: "Our users love creating playlists to reflect key moments in their lives or soundtrack moments that matter.
"These often become a listener's most-streamed playlist for the first several months after creation.
"But over time they stream these playlists less frequently in favor of new music or mixes."
How to save money on Spotify
The company said that Smart Shuffle would include "perfectly tailored suggestions".
But Spotify has clearly listened to user fan reaction, now offering an easier way to avoid Smart Shuffle.
And Spotify listeners are overjoyed, with a post revealing the feature on Reddit earning more than a thousand "upvotes".
One said that Smart Shuffle "isn't that smart", adding: "They just recommend popular songs that I don't want to hear over and over again. Thank you for this!"

One added: "Omg????? I've been waiting for this day for years", while a different user cheered: "Immediately turning that trash off."
And another one of the dozens of Spotify fans replying to the post simply wrote: "Thank god! FINALLY!"

First make sure that you're using the latest version of Spotify from the Apple App Store for iOS on iPhone or the Google Play Store for Android.
Then go into Spotify Settings, look for Playback, and then disable Enable All Play Modes.
Spotify explains: "When enabled, you can select from Linear, Shuffle, and Smart Shuffle play modes on your playlists.
"Turn it off to remove the Smart Shuffle option."

Some users reported also seeing a dedicated Smart Shuffle toggle in that menu.
For that feature, Spotify explains: "Smart Shuffle is available as a play mode on playlists. Turning this off will remove the option from your experience."
It's unclear why different users are seeing varying settings.
But The Sun was able to verify the existence of the Enable All Play Modes toggle via Spotify on an iPhone.
If you can't see the new feature, there's a chance that it hasn't rolled out to your device yet.
So you'll just need to sit tight and wait for it to show up.

Back in 2005, nothing felt more high-powered and sophisticated than ending a call by snapping shut a clamshell flip phone. Now, two decades since they hit peak popularity, they're back – with Apple rumoured to be working on its first ever flip phone. Little is known about how it will look. It could resemble Samsung's Flip design – closer to a 2000s-style clamshell phone – or its Fold, more like a foldable iPad. A JPMorgan report has suggested that the first foldable iPhone will be revealed in September 2026, priced at $1,999 (£1,474), and will likely expand a foldable phone market expected to reach 19m units in 2025. The rectangular tablet has been a mainstay of phone design for the last 15 years, but could Apple betting on the flip phone be a sign that's about to change? Tech experts said the new product launch probably reflected the fact that people now mostly access the internet on their phones, rather than laptops or tablets, and are looking for a device that optimises that experience – but the high price point suggests it will remain a premium product. 'Apple and all other smartphone makers are somewhat stymied by the fact the smartphone has become somewhat of a boring category – it's absolutely essential in people's daily lives, but it no longer has the excitement of the next big thing,' said Ben Wood, an analyst at the tech consultancy CCS Insight. This is why Apple has been reaching for new designs that can get people talking – for example, the ultra-thin iPhone, expected to be launched in September. Wood thinks Apple is entering the foldable market because other companies have experimented first. Samsung's initial Galaxy Fold designs were bedevilled by screen problems, but next week's Galaxy Flip and Fold 7 triple release, featuring slimmer designs and bigger screens, is expected to represent the 'next generation' of foldable phones, which Samsung will be hoping reverses the flatlining sales in 2024. This, combined with the fact that young people, especially, tend to use smartphones to go online, suggests that the foldable design could offer an ideal compromise for future consumers. Prof Ben Carter, who researches how smartphones impact our lives at King's College London, agreed that video watching was 'one of the wins' for foldable phones, especially since videos constitute a growing proportion of the content that people consume. Foldable phones can have larger screens and can also be propped up for easier viewing. He thought there could be mental health benefits to a design resembling a 'mini-laptop that you can close down'. His research shows that disabling notifications is highly effective in reducing screen time and tackling smartphone addiction. If the screen is not visible, it removes the 'variable reward scheme' – the same process by which gambling addiction works, whereby not knowing when you will receive a reward makes something more compelling. 'If you can switch it off, more like a laptop, that distraction has gone,' he said, though he noted there waws not yet evidence that people are using foldable phones in this way. This might be especially beneficial for children, who receive on average more than 200 notifications a day – though the high price point of foldable phones makes it unlikely that many will have access to them until their parents pass on secondhand models several years after launch. Prof David Ellis, the chair of behavioural science at the University of Bath, said that other draws include the fact that screens are better protected and fit into a smaller pocket, as well as the 'sense of nostalgia that comes with a flip phone'. But he added that it might not be the gamechanger people are expecting: Apple doesn't have a '100% success rate – the Vision Pro [headset] has been a spectacular failure'.

This will bring up a small menu at the bottom of your screen, with 'Pin' listed as the first option. Tap it, and the chat will appear in a large bubble above all other messages. Scary Movie fans, it's time to get excited as Regina Hall and Anna Faris have officially returned for the upcoming reboot. The first film hit the big screen in July 2000, and became a huge hit, parodying some of the biggest horrors around, including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, Halloween and the Blair Witch Project.
