Plenty of people are bullish on the Denver Broncos right now. After all, Denver went 10-7 after losing its first two games last season and surprised many by making the NFL playoffs for the first time in nine years.
Quarterback Bo Nix, who was a rookie last year, led the charge. He overcame a shaky September to post 3,775 passing yards and 29 passing touchdowns while completing 66.3% of his pass attempts.
Nix's fine play down the stretch, along with a few notable offseason additions, has led to some rosy predictions for the Broncos this coming season. But Terrell Davis, the legendary running back who once won back-to-back Super Bowl championships with them, made an audacious statement about the expectations for his former team.
He told KMGH-TV in Denver that his former squad should be aiming for the sky.
"It reminds me of '95," Davis said. "We were 8-8 in 1995, and then in 1996, we end up winning 13 games. And so it was the same thing. No one was talking about a Super Bowl -- at least outside our locker room -- when we were 8-8. We knew it, and we were talking about it after we went 8-8, not because of the record, but because we knew. ... Our confidence level was through the roof. I think this Brocnos team has the same confidence and mentality right now.
"Anything short of a Super Bowl would be a disappointment for them."

Davis was once one of the NFL's most explosive and terrifying running backs. He joined a select club when he ran for over 2,000 yards in 1998, and his ascent coincided with that of the John Elway-led Broncos during the second half of the 1990s.
This current iteration of the Broncos doesn't exactly have a prolific tailback such as Davis, but Davis spoke highly of J.K. Dobbins, who is the team's presumed starter at the position.
Dobbins had a career-high 905 rushing yards last year while recording nine rushing touchdowns with the Los Angeles Chargers last year.
Courtland Sutton has become a sneaky good wide receiver, and he's coming off a season in which he tallied 1,081 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. Meanwhile, fellow WR Marvin Mims Jr., who is entering his third season, seems to be ascending.
Bet $5 on Courtland Sutton and the Broncos for a $200 bonus, or place a $1,000 Safety Net bet on the Saints after utilizing the bet365 bonus code WEEK365.

Denver's big additions this offseason were tight end Evan Engram, outside linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga. All three have injury concerns surrounding them, but they also have the ability to elevate the squad.
Defense was Denver's calling card last year, as it finished third in points allowed. Combine that with Nix's production and the fact that he could be the QB1 coach Sean Payton has been looking for, and it is understandable why people throughout Colorado are stoked about the Broncos.

Broncos predicted to get off to hot start but who gives them their first loss?

Broncos predicted to get off to hot start but who gives them their first loss? originally appeared on The Sporting News The Denver Broncos are a team many see as one of the better teams in the AFC this coming season, and the schedule set up nicely for them in the first month, with the Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts to start the season. Ali Bhanpuri and Adam Rank, two analysts over at recently made game-by-game picks for each team in the league. Broncos Country will love the thoughts of each of them. Bhanpuri has the Broncos finishing 11-6 on the season and becoming the AFC's top wild card. Rank does him one better, putting the Broncos at 12-5, winning the AFC West, and becoming the No. 2 seed in the AFC. Looking at things from a different perspective, John Breech of CBS Sports decided to predict when each team would lose its first game of the season. Breech has the Broncos getting off to a 3-0 start with wins over the Titans, Colts and on the road over the Los Angeles Chargers. But he suggests that the team will come back home in Week 4 and suffer its first loss at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals. "This might end up being the best game of Week 4. These two teams gave us a shootout last season and it won't be surprising if we get another one with the Bengals pulling off the road upset", wrote Breech. The Broncos and Bengals played in one of the best games of the 2024 season, going shot for shot with major playoff implications on the line. The Bengals won the game 30-24 in overtime, dealing a blow to the Broncos' playoff hopes while significantly helping their own. While the Broncos were the team that took the last playoff spot, many fans felt that the Bengals should have been there instead. The Broncos will still have that loss fresh in their minds for this one and will be seeking a measure of revenge. Betts staying at shortstop despite Dodgers' outfield struggles

DENVER (AP) — Mookie Betts has played strong defense in his first full season as a shortstop, but the recent outfield play for the Los Angeles Dodgers has manager Dave Roberts fielding questions about whether the 2018 AL MVP would be more valuable to the team in right field. Outfield defense has been a problem for Los Angeles, and Roberts called out Teoscar Hernández's play in right after Monday night's 4-3 loss to the Colorado Rockies. Hernández failed to catch Ezequiel Tovar's high popup that landed for a double in the ninth inning, and Tovar scored the winning run two pitches later. But Roberts isn't ready to move Betts from shortstop, where he has played all but one inning this season. Betts entered Tuesday night with a .984 fielding percentage and has committed just six errors in 376 chances. 'There's got to be an alternative, right?' Roberts said before Tuesday night's game against Colorado. 'And I think right now, the way Mookie's playing at short, not bouncing him around, I think we feel very good about it.' Betts met with Roberts after Monday night's loss but the manager said it was just to check in. 'Mookie pops in my office all the time and we were just talking about his swing,' Roberts said. 'I wanted him to check in with me about where he's at, certain checkpoints as we go through the season, and that was a check-in.' The Dodgers have options in the outfield, but Michael Conforto has struggled at the plate and Tommy Edman, Kiké Hernández and Hyeseong Kim are on the injured list. Edman and Hernández can play infield and outfield, which would strengthen the defense. Teoscar Hernández, despite his recent offensive struggles, is a stronger option with the bat than Conforto. The slugger had an RBI double in the first inning Tuesday night that gave the Dodgers a 2-0 lead. 'Given everything that we were going through, we've gone through, we're still finding ways to win a lot of ballgames,' Roberts said. 'Just in totality, we can all do a better job, all of us. And so I just refuse to try to pin it on one position, one person. ... That's just not what I do." ___ AP MLB:

NFL Insider Reveals Price Tag for Potential Eagles Trade Target

Landing Trey Hendrickson on the Philadelphia Eagles might be a long-shot scenario for Howie Roseman and the front office, but don't be surprised if the Super Bowl-winning team at least gives it a try. Over the years, Howie Roseman has built a reputation for making calls and doing his due diligence on players, even if the likelihood of striking a deal is low. Trey Hendrickson just might be the next blockbuster trade candidate in the NFL. At the start of training camp, Hendrickson was holding out from the Cincinnati Bengals. As the veteran edge rusher wanted a new deal, the lack of progress on talks convinced Hendrickson to spend some time away from the team. ( MoreAlthough Hendrickson returned to the team, a new deal is still off the table. Now, the Bengals are expected to field offers, as a trade is no longer as doubtful to happen. If the Eagles wanted to give it a try, what would it cost? According to the NFL Insider, Dianna Russini, the price is expected to be high. via @DMRussini: Teams that have recently inquired about Bengals star Trey Hendrickson were told Cincinnati's asking price included a young defensive player and a 2026 first-round pick, according to league sources. The player heading back does not have to be a pass rusher. — Dianna Russini (@DMRussini) August 18, 2025 The young defensive player would obviously have to be a productive one. If the Bengals are going to aim high, they might ask for someone like Cooper DeJean. In that case, there's nothing more to discuss. That's not to say that Hendrickson's value is below DeJean's level. The Bengals' pass rusher is among the best in the league, as he registered a league-high 17.5 sacks in 17 games last season. He also produced 46 tackles, which also marked a career-high for the seasoned veteran, who has 110 appearances under his belt. The Eagles have formed a bit of a youth movement lately. DeJean fits the timeline and is viewed as a future NFL star in Philadelphia. Trading a high-upside second-year player, along with a valuable pick, for a 30-year-old player, who wants to break the bank with a long-term deal, doesn't make a ton of sense for the Eagles—especially when you factor in the upcoming Jalen Carter contract discussions. Hendrickson might be a dream candidate for some in Philadelphia, but the Super Bowl champions aren't in need of a big swing like that at this time.
