But now businessman Dev Alahan has returned from his visit to India - and walked into a storm.
Actor Jimmi Harkishin appeared on screen as Dev as he reunited with Bernie and son Aadi - just as the pair were trying to plan what to do about Aadi's insurance scam.
Last month Aadi accidentally spiked Lauren Bolton with drugs that led to her suffering horrifying hallucinations of Joel.
And things have only got worse as Aadi also set up a fake robbery with Brody Michaelis.
As a masked Brody rushed out into the street, a passing Lisa Swain froze and Carla was puzzled by her lack of action.
Later Aadi told Asha how the lad threatened him with a wrench and forced him to empty the safe.
Asha assures him it's not his fault and he's the victim of a crime and encouraged him to report it.
Aadi told PC Jess what happened claiming the robber made off with £6k in cash.
But when Bernie clocked his shifty demeanour, it didn't take her long to crack him and discover the truth about the insurance plot.
But as she quizzes Aadi about whether he's up for the full scam and all the lying it entails, they were interrupted by Dev's return.
Adam Hussain's Bold Exit: Coronation Street Shake-Up
His comeback is just in time as Aadi actor Adam Hussein is set to leave the soap this summer.
The Sun revealed the star had quit earlier this year after five years on screen.

Axed Love Islander Andrada reveals villa feud is worse than fans see on TV after furious row with Meg

AXED Love Island star Andrada revealed a villa feud is worse than what fans see on TV. Irish bombshell Andrada, 27, was dumped from the ITV2 villa alongside OG Islander Ben. 4 Andrada and Meg clashed in the villa Credit: Eroteme 4 OG Islander Meg arrived on the first day Credit: Eroteme 4 Ben and Andrada were axed together after being voted 'least compatible' Credit: Eroteme The couple recently appeared on podcast Love Island: The Morning After. During the episode, Andrada opened up about joining the Islanders following her arrival in Casa Amor. She addressed the villa girls' pre-existing groups of Helena & Meg, as well as Shakira, Toni & Yasmin. Asked whether the Casa girls became their own group, Andrada shared: "You were able to join the other groups. "You know, [Shakira and Toni] did even say like, "Thank God you came in because [you all] are a great addition to the team. "Everyone was just so lovely - they were very, very welcoming." It comes as Andrada branded former co-star Dejon as "calculated" after he led her on and backtracked. Dejon grew close to Andrada in Casa Amor, calling her "babygirl" and saying she was the "best bombshell" they'd had. When they returned to the villa Dejon admitted he was still "open" and wanted to carry on getting to know her. But after a heated conversation with Meg, where she issued him an ultimatum, Dejon was forced to make a U-turn and shut things down with Andrada. Love Island's Ben admits he's had a 'reality check' after fans branded him 'vile' Speaking in her exit interview, Andrada said: "Dejon is a very smart and calculated guy who knows how and when to use his words. "We would have a flirty conversation wherein he'd ask me a question, I'd answer it, then I'd return the same question but he wouldn't answer because it would make him look bad. "When we got back into the main Villa, he was still open but then Meg got on his back and was upset. Then he shut it off. "I don't think that he shut it off because he wanted to, he did it because Meg told him so. "I definitely feel like things would have been very different if she wasn't there." Andrada and Ben were sent packing after the public voted them the least compatible couple. Speaking about her future with Ben, she said: "We want to see where things go because we get along very well. "There's nothing I can fault about the guy. He's a gentleman and treats me like a princess." Love Island airs on ITV2 and ITVX.

Charity overwhelmed in Emmerdale surrogacy story as she makes revelation to Mack

A difficult road (Picture: ITV) Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) offered to be Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) surrogate when she thought there were no other options, but that selfless offer may be coming back to bite her in Emmerdale. When Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) originally dropped the idea of surrogacy in Sarah's lap Charity was livid – that he would get her hopes up with something that was never going to be viable. Dr Liam (Jonny McPherson) confirmed as much when he told Cain that no agency would touch her with a barge pole given her life expectancy, among other things. Cain then got himself scammed by an agency who took his money and ran, leaving everyone desperate, distraught, and back to square one. So, Charity stepped up. Charity failed to tell Mack about the plan (Picture: ITV) Cain feared it wouldn't work (Picture: ITV) She chose not to share this monumental decision with husband Mack (Lawrence Robb), however, and instead he found out from busybody Pollard (Chris Chittell), and when he learned that his wife planned to carry her great grandchild, he had a few things to say about it. But as things stand, it's full steam ahead with Sarah giddy with excitement over this new plan. She and Charity get prepared for their hospital visit while Mack busies himself with work to try and forget. When he bumps into best pal Aaron (Danny Miller) and confesses he won't be going to the hospital, Aaron tries to get him to have a rethink. Mack takes his advice and rushes to the clinic, where Charity tells him all went well. Mack is desperate to tell her how he really feels, but he just can't find the words. If he's not careful, it'll soon be too late. Before he can, Charity reveals something of her own – Sarah and Jacob's attentiveness has left her feeling completely overwhelmed, and it's only a sign of things to come. When she gets Mack alone, she confesses her true feelings, and it's a great opportunity for him to do the same. But will he?
