Coronation Street legend returning to cobbles 26 years on from his first ever episode - reuniting with his family in emotional scenes after sudden disappearance

A Coronation Street legend is returning to the cobbles 26 years on from his first ever episode. Character Dev Alahan, who is played by Jimmi Harkishin in the ITV soap, will be returning to Weatherfield to reunite with his family in emotional scenes after his sudden disappearance. Jimmi first appeared on Coronation Street back in 1999. The soap star has gone on to appear in over 2000 episodes over the years. Earlier this year his alter-ego businessman Dev left cobbles, leaving his children, including Aadi (Adam Hussain), Asha (Tanisha Gorey) and fiance Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) behind. The shopkeeper decided to go to India after being told that his Aunt Gita was in need of help. This has meant that his son Aadi has been in charge of his multiple businesses. And things haven't been going to well for him after he managed to spike Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) during a night out, which resulted in her thinking she had seen Joel Deering (Calum Lill). In upcoming episodes of the ITV show, Aadi comes head to head with some masked robbers while in the corner shop. He tells his sister that he was forced to open the safe, which had £6k in it, and then managed to run away with the full wad of cash. But Bernie is concerned that Aadi isn't telling the full truth. And moments after Dev appears and wants to know what is happening. A source told Digital Spy: 'Dev's home to a family in crisis. 'He was hoping for a quiet night in with a pizza but instead there's tension bubbling away. 'First of all, he needs to know why the shop's been robbed…' They added: 'Bernie can tell Aadi is lying. 'He's very cagey and there's something shifty about his demeanour. 'Like the disastrous party, Bernie knows there's more to this…' Back in February it was revealed that the star would be taking a break from Corrie. At the time a representative of Coronation Street confirmed his short break. It comes after a Coronation Street fan who previously worked next to the soap's old set has revealed how the stars were different to their on-screen characters - and one actress that stood out. Before the show moved to its new base at MediaCity in Salford, Manchester, it was previously located at Trafford Wharf Studios. A former store worker who claimed to work right next to the famous cobbles has revealed how the actors would pop in when they weren't busy filming dramatic scenes. Taking to Reddit, the unnamed woman explained how she worked in TK Maxx, when it originally opened two decades ago. She said the entire cast were 'all lovely' but the late Liz Dawn stood out the most for her, branding her her 'favourite'. The woman explained: 'Liz Dawn was my favourite. She would stop and chat and sign autographs for every single person that approached her. She was lovely to all the staff.' She added: 'Other customers would say she could be served before them in the queue and she would say no, saying that she liked to queue and behave normally when she wasn't in work' Liz played the iconic role of Vera Duckworth and was married to Jack Duckworth (Bill Tarmey), living at 9 Coronation Street. She departed the role in 2008 after a whopping 34 years on the cobbles.

Coronation Street legend returning 26 years after debut – six months on from sudden disappearance

A CORONATION Street is set to make a shock comeback next week - 26 years after his first appearance. The beloved character suddenly disappeared six months ago in a shock exit plot that saw him leave his partner and children behind. 2 2 But now it can be revealed that businessman Dev Alahan will be back - and soon. Actor Jimmi Harkishin has resumed filming after his break and he will be back on screen next week. Jimmi, 59, first joined the cobbles in 1999 playing the bumbling corner shopkeeper. Earlier this year Dev received some bad news about his Aunt Gita and rushed off to abroad to help care for her. He told Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) that his Aunt Gita has had a fall and he needs to go abroad. Leaving son Aadi in control of his businesses, Dev jetted off alone. And while he's been away Aadi has got himself into trouble. Last month Aadi accidentally spiked Lauren Bolton with drugs that led to her suffering horrifying hallucinations of Joel. And things are only set to get worse as next week Aadi shouts as a masked robber dashes out of the corner shop. In the street, Lisa freezes and Carla's puzzled by lack of action. Later Aadi tells Asha how the lad threatened him with a wrench and forced him to empty the safe. Asha assures him it's not his fault and he's the victim of a crime. As he tells PC Jess what happened, Aadi explains the robber made off with £6k in cash but at least they're insured. But Bernie clocks his shifty demeanour, and worries there's more to this than Aadi's letting on. Suddenly the door flies open and Dev barrels in wondering what he's missed.
