McAllister compares challenge in Malaysian football to Scottish League
Brunei are in search of their first win in the season after suffering a 3-0 loss against Selangor at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Tuesday, following their 2-2 draw against Police in their season opener on Aug 9.
McAllister drew a comparison to the Scottish Premier League, saying the Super League possesses some tough opponents.
'It's quite similar to the Scottish Premier League actually. It's physical, and there are a lot of good quality players,' said McAllister.
The 47-year-old from Glasgow had spent several years playing in Scotland's top flight with Aberdeen, Livingston, and Heart of Midlothian.
Having also been at Brunei's helm while they competed in the Singapore Premier League last year, McAllister added that the Super League is a different level, but is nevertheless confident his team can bounce back.
'The Super League is also a tougher league than what the Singapore Premier League is. So it's a big challenge for us, and one we're looking forward to,' he said.
The match saw the Red Giants bag their first win of the season, thanks to Thai international Kevin Deeromram's two goals before half-time and one from Brazilian import Chrigor Moraes in the second half.
Despite the win, Selangor head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi wants to see a stronger display in the attacking department from his team.
'The 3-0 win is a good result, but we had a lot of open opportunities that we didn't take, so that's something we need to work on,' said Kinoshi.
'Sometimes opportunities only come once in a match. A goal will change the direction of the team.'
The Red Giants' next match will see them take on Malaysia University in the FA Cup on Saturday, while Brunei play Kuching on the same day.

I wish Sabah FC all the best in this away game and I am confident that we should be able to register our first victory of the new season. SABAH FC's first game in the new Super League season ended with a 1-1 draw at the Kuala Lumpur City FC at the KLFA Stadium on Wednesday. We were actually heading for a defeat until lanky Gabriel Peres became the saviour for the team when he scored in the dying seconds with a well-timed header for the equaliser. I thought Sabah FC had a very good game in the first half and had many chances to score but no one was clinical enough to put the ball into the back of the net. Guardiola aims to keep Savinho amid Tottenham interest
PEP GUARDIOLA has expressed his desire to keep Manchester City winger Savinho at the club for 'many years.' The City manager acknowledged Tottenham's interest in the Brazilian following Son Heung-min's exit and James Maddison's injury. Guardiola confirmed neither Savinho nor goalkeeper Ederson has requested a transfer. 'If they want to leave, they will come to me,' he stated during Friday's press conference. Familiar foes and faces for Selangor in tough AFC Champs League 2 group
PETALING JAYA: Selangor's AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) campaign will have a distinctly South-East Asian flavour and the Red Giants know they are in for a big fight. Drawn into Group G, Selangor will face Indonesian Liga Satu champions Persib Bandung, Singapore Premier League winners and last season's ACL2 runners-up Lions City Sailors, and Thai League contenders Bangkok United. For coach Katsuhito Kinoshi, the group presents both challenges and opportunities. 'Our opponents are close to our country, so in terms of travel and conditioning, it's ideal,' said the Japanese tactician. 'All three teams have history, so we must be in good shape. It doesn't matter who the opponent is - what matters is who we are and how we play. We want to win every game, take it match by match, and reach the knockout stages.' There will be familiar faces across the pitch. Persib coach Bojan Hodak has squared off against Selangor countless times during his spells in Malaysia, while his Argentinian playmaker Luciano Guaycochea captained Perak and has faced the Klang Valley side before.
