
Hwy 89 to close for police investigation into hit-and-run that left woman, 35, dead on shoulder of road

Highway 89 will be closed in both directions Wednesday night between 5th Sideroad and County Road 27 for an ongoing investigation into a deadly hit-and-run that happened in Innisfil earlier this month.
The closure is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. and reopen around 1:30 a.m. Thursday. A detour will be in place to and from Highway 400.
Meanwhile, investigators are hoping to speak with a potential witness to the fatal hit-and-run that happened on Sun., July 13 sometime after 2 a.m.
Police believe the woman was walking near 5th Sideroad when she was struck by a blue passenger vehicle heading east on Highway 89. The vehicle left the scene, but has since been located by investigators. The driver has yet to come forward.
The victim's body was discovered about an hour after the collision on the shoulder of the highway. She has since been identified as a 35-year-old from Richmond Hill.

Police are appealing to the public for help identifying the driver. They have also identified a white SUV that was seen travelling closely behind the involved vehicle at the time of the collision.
Police believe the SUV driver could hold valuable information and wish to speak with that individual.
Anyone who can help with the case is urged to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to leave an anonymous tip that could result in a $2,000 reward.
