Karnataka forms panel to study criteria for granting Tulu official language status
The committee, headed by Gayatri K.M., Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, has been tasked with conducting a detailed study in Andhra Pradesh. It includes members such as Vanitha, Deputy Secretary of the Law Department; Moorthy K.N., Deputy Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms; Taranath Gatti Kapikad, President of the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy; and Sudhakar Shetty, a member of the Yakshagana Academy.
The committee was constituted to investigate the standards and procedural framework allegedly adopted by Andhra Pradesh when it recognised another regional language as an additional official language. The government had previously gathered information regarding Andhra Pradesh's linguistic policies.
Now, to gain a comprehensive understanding of how Andhra Pradesh has implemented the status of a second official language, including its scope, form, and legal recognition, the Karnataka government has directed the committee to complete the study and submit its report within three months.

Andhra to bring special law against false propaganda on social media
Last Updated: Amaravati, Aug 19 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister V Anitha on Tuesday said that the government will introduce a special law against false propaganda on social media. Anitha said that a fact-finding committee will be established to present facts before the public and counter misinformation that misleads people and creates insecurity across the state. 'The government will bring a special law in the Assembly to act against false propaganda on social media," said Anitha, addressing a press conference. Unable to tolerate the NDA coalition government's welfare schemes, some are allegedly misrepresenting facts on social media, she said, adding that strict action will be taken against such campaigns. The minister cited alleged 'false claims' such as Amaravati being submerged and Prakasam Barrage gates falling apart were attempting to 'malign the government deliberately'. She highlighted that within just four days of Stree Shakti implementation, more than 18 lakh women travelled in buses at free of cost, gaining benefits worth nearly Rs 20 crore. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu knows how to curb anti-social forces. Such elements will be dealt firmly, and peace will never be compromised," she added. Karnataka Law Department will probe into Rahul Gandhi's allegations of ‘vote theft': CM Siddaramaiah
After Leader of Opposition in Lok Saha Rahul Gandhi urged the Karnataka government to investigate the alleged 'vote theft' that took place at the Mahadevapura Assembly segment of Bangalore Central constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Saturday that the Law Department will investigate the issue. 'We have asked the Law Department to look into it. Based on their recommendations, we will initiate legal action,' Siddaramaiah told reporters. Responding to media queries, he said the government has asked the legal adviser to the CM and the advocate general to investigate it and submit a report. The development came days after Gandhi raised a storm and said that it had '100 per cent' evidence of tampering during the Lok Sabha elections. In a briefing held in Delhi last week, he alleged that around one lakh votes were 'stolen' at the Mahadevapura segment, thereby denying a victory to the Congress candidate. Subsequently, at the 'Vote Adhikar Rally' held in Bengaluru on Friday, he urged the state government to initiate a probe into the irregularities. Rahul Gandhi accused the Election Commission of stifling public scrutiny, claiming that its website went offline after he released data that he believes raises serious questions about the integrity of the electoral process. 'When the public started asking the Election Commission difficult questions based on the data I shared, they shut down their website,' he alleged. The chief minister said the Congress was expecting to win 16 of the 28 seats in Karnataka, but won only nine after the results were announced. He said that all relevant documents regarding the Lok Sabha polls were with the Election Commission of India and the Karnataka State Election Commission. Noting that Gandhi's expose had shown that 80 voters were registered from the same address, he asked whether it was possible for that many people to share a small room.

PM to open Yellow Line of Namma Metro today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Bengaluru on Sunday to inaugurate the much-delayed Yellow Line of Namma Metro between R.V. Road Metro Station and Bommasandra Metro Station, apart from laying the foundation stone for Metro Phase III in the city. He will also flag off a Vande Bharat train between Bengaluru and Belagavi. The Prime Minister's visit comes two days after the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi led a 'Vote Adhikar Rally' in Bengaluru, alleging widespread 'voter fraud' during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. On the eve of the Prime Minister's visit to the city, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday said the State's Law Department would hold an inquiry into the alleged 'voter fraud'. While the Bharatiya Janata Party, both at the Centre and in the State, has been countering these allegations, the Prime Minister is yet to respond on the issue. He will address a public function on the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore campus, Electronics City, on Sunday, where he will lay the foundation stone for Metro Phase III. Sources in the BJP said he may respond to the Congress' allegations during the speech. This visit comes at a time when the political scene in the State is hotting up and a nine-day Monsoon Session of the State legislature is set to commence from Monday. Mr. Modi's visit is expected to further add to the political heat. Meanwhile, both the Congress and BJP have been trying to take credit over Namma Metro in the city.
