Atletico Madrid legend Antoine Griezmann penned an extension on his contract with the Spanish Capital city club on Monday that will see him don the iconic Rojiblancos kit until 2027.
'Griezmann and Atletico have reached a deal to renew the French footballer's contract until June 30, 2027," said Atletico in a statement.
The 34-year-old has struggled with form in 2025, last scoring a goal in February as his team finished third in La Liga, ending the season without any trophies.
Griezmann joined Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014. The striker won the Europa League in 2018 and was twice a Champions League runner-up with Atletico before moving to Barcelona in 2019. Griezmann faced challenges with the Catalan giants, winning only a Copa del Rey before returning to Atletico on loan in 2021 and eventually making the move permanent.
Atletico and Griezmann will compete in the Club World Cup this summer in the United States, with their first match against Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain on June 15.

"It feels incredible, but I also understand that the job is not done yet," said Sabalenka, the 27-year-old Belarusian who claimed the top WTA ranking from Swiatek last October. "She's the toughest opponent, especially on the clay, especially at Roland Garros. I'm proud that I was able to get this win. It was a tough match. … but I managed it, somehow." Poland's Iga Swiatek celebrates as she won the quarterfinal match of the French Tennis Open against Ukraine's Elina Svitolina at the Roland-Garros stadium in Paris, Tuesday, June 3, 2025. (AP Photo/Christophe Ena) Sabalenka's next challenge awaits in Saturday's final against either No. 2 Coco Gauff or French wild-card entry Loïs Boisson, ranked 361st. She playfully addressed the crowd: "I'm pretty sure you're going to be cheering for one person like crazy, and I'm not sure if I really want her to win." The match, played under Court Philippe-Chatrier's closed roof due to rain, showcased exceptional tennis from both players. However, Sabalenka's decisive third-set performance, marked by zero unforced errors compared to Swiatek's twelve, proved decisive. For Swiatek, this defeat extends a challenging period since her last French Open victory 12 months ago. The 24-year-old Polish player, now ranked fifth, has struggled to reach finals, faced an unexpected Olympics semifinal exit, and experienced a one-month ban following a contaminated medicine incident. (AP Photo/Thibault Camus) Sabalenka's dominance in women's tennis is evident, with her six title match appearances this year setting a benchmark not seen since Serena Williams in 2013. Her powerful game, traditionally suited to faster courts, proved equally effective on clay, as demonstrated by her commanding performance. The match dynamics shifted throughout, with Sabalenka initially leading 4-1 before Swiatek fought back to 5-4 in the first set. After winning the tiebreaker, Swiatek briefly regained momentum in the second set, but Sabalenka ultimately prevailed with an impressive display of power tennis. The atmosphere was notably pro-Swiatek, with the 15,000-strong crowd frequently chanting "I-ga!" Sabalenka responded to this partial support by actively encouraging crowd engagement after her successful points.

Aryna Sabalenka ends Iga Swiatek's 26-match French Open winning streak, reaches the final
No. 1-ranked Aryna Sabalenka ended Iga Swiatek's 26-match French Open unbeaten streak and reached the final in Paris for the first time by using her pure power to dominate down the stretch and win their semifinal 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0 on Thursday. Sabalenka's victory prevented Swiatek from becoming the first woman to win four consecutive championships at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament since professionals were admitted in 1968. It also gives Sabalenka a chance to win her fourth major title — and first away from hard courts, after two at the Australian Open and one at the U.S. Open. The 27-year-old from Belarus also took the top WTA ranking from Swiatek last October. Sabalenka will face No. 2 Coco Gauff or 361st-ranked French wild-card entry Loïs Boisson in the final on Saturday. Most remarkable, perhaps, was the way Sabalenka — her back dotted with flecks of the rust-colored clay — dominated in crunch time, racing through the last set. With the Court Philippe-Chatrier roof closed on a drizzly day, there was no wind or other elements for the players to confront, and both produced some terrific tennis for stretches. But in the end, the difference was that when Sabalenka decided to swing away, she rushed Swiatek into mistakes. This stat says it all: The third set included 12 unforced errors off Swiatek's racket, and zero off Sabalenka's. This continues a rough stretch for Swiatek, a 24-year-old from Poland, who has not even reached a final at any tournament since walking away with her third trophy in a row — and fifth Grand Slam title overall — from Paris 12 months ago. She recently slid to No. 5 in the rankings. Her rut includes a surprising exit in the semifinals at the 2024 Summer Olympics, which were contested at Roland-Garros; she ended up with the bronze medal. Then, later last season, she was banned for a month after testing positive for a banned substance; her explanation was accepted that the result was unintentional and caused by a contaminated medicine.

Yamal's meteoric rise continued with his performances for Barcelona, where he contributed 18 goals and 21 assists in the 2024–25 season, playing a pivotal role in the club's La Liga triumph. His exceptional skills and composure on the ball have drawn comparisons to legends like Lionel Messi, positioning him as a future Ballon d'Or contender . Désiré Doué: France's Emerging Star Désiré Doué, at 19, has swiftly become one of France's most promising talents. In the 2025 UEFA Champions League final, Doué delivered a remarkable performance, scoring two goals and assisting another, leading Paris Saint-Germain to their first-ever Champions League title with a commanding 5-0 win over Inter Milan . His versatility and vision in midfield have drawn parallels to Zinedine Zidane, and his rapid ascent in both domestic and international football has made him a central figure in France's national team setup.
