Talking points as England continue World Cup qualifying campaign against Andorra

Victories over Albania and Latvia in Thomas Tuchel's first two games in charge in March set England on the right path to North America next summer and they currently top Group K after two games, though their biggest rivals Serbia are yet to kick-off their campaign. However, a victory over the minnows in Barcelona will put Tuchel's men one step closer to the World Cup ahead of September's toughest game of the group in Serbia. The German is not taking the game lightly, naming his strongest possible squad, including players who are going to the Club World Cup later this month.

Trevoh Chalobah earned his maiden call-up to the senior squad after an impressive season for Chelsea and he has his sights on history. If he is able to get on the pitch against Andorra – or Senegal in next Tuesday's friendly – he will follow in his brother Nathaniel's shoes by representing England, making the Chalobahs the 21st set of brothers to play for England. Only two of them have been post-war, Bobby and Jack Charlton and Phil and Gary Neville, while Trevoh will be hoping his international career lasts longer than the six minutes 54 seconds Nathaniel managed in his one and only appearance in 2018.

England are already preparing for the extreme temperatures they are expected to face in next summer's World Cup and they have spent the week training in the 27-degree heat of Spain rather than at St George's Park. The players have been doing acclimitisation testing this week, consisting of cycling in sauna-like temperatures, and taking scientific tests on their core body temperature and reaction to heat. They will get some in-game experience of it against Andorra as well, with temperatures expected to be in the mid-20s when the match kicks off on Saturday tea-time.

Most people thought Ivan Toney had sacrificed his England career when he made a money-spinning move to Saudia Arabia last summer, but Thomas Tuchel has brought him back into the squad. The striker scored 23 goals in 30 Saudi Pro League appearances for Al-Ahli, helping the side to win the AFC Champions League Elite competition. With Ollie Watkins also back in the squad after injury, captain Harry Kane has some competition in attack.
This match is not a question of whether England will win, but how many goals will they score. Andorra are well down the FIFA rankings, in 173rd and below Papa New Guinea and St Vincent and the Grenadines, and have only ever won four World Cup qualifiers – two of them against San Marino. England have a healthy record against them, winning all of their six previous meetings to an aggregate of 25-0 and should strengthen that.

'We have to play until the 93rd minute. I didn't like the lack of urgency in the end,' he said. 'It did not match the occasion at all, it is still a qualifier away from home, I didn't like it at all. 'The players know all I said to you, because I said it in the dressing room, but it is also necessary to have a look in detail, watch the match again, and then we will let them know tomorrow what we want from them.' England captain Kane accepted it 'wasn't the greatest performance'. The Bayern Munich forward added: 'I don't think many people will remember this one but we can learn from it. 'It is very hot here, a dry pitch, probably similar conditions to maybe next year at the World Cup, so we will go away and analyse. 'We try and make excuses for England with the end of the season and it's been tough on the players,' the former Manchester United midfielder said on ITV1. 'I thought the first half was okay but when they scored the goal it felt it was job done. 'I was really disappointed with England's attitude after the goal went in. The manager can't be happy with that effort in the last half an hour. 'I felt like some of the players looked like they got bored in the last half an hour and I don't like to see that.'

Harry Kane's goal was all that separated the teams in Barcelona, with Thomas Tuchel less than impressed by his side's efforts. Northern Ireland were beaten by Denmark, while the fall-out from Tottenham's decision to sack Ange Postecoglou continued. England were booed after limping to a lifeless 1-0 win against Andorra as Tuchel's first away match in charge ended in forgettable and frustrating fashion. The German coach called for relentlessness and patience against the side 173rd in FIFA's world rankings but got neither as the stuttering Euro 2024 runners-up were jeered at the end of both halves. Jadon Sancho situation after Premier League club agreed to sign him from Man Utd
As Jadon Sancho once again finds himself in the wilderness, Mirror Football takes a look at the Manchester United outcast's current situation Jadon Sancho's goal in the Europa Conference League final was not enough to convince Chelsea he was worth £25million plus his not inconsiderable salary. Despite ending his time at Stamford Bridge with a European trophy, the 25-year-old was sent back to Manchester United by Enzo Maresca's side. When the Blues loaned Sancho from the Red Devils last summer, they did so on the premise that they would pay £25m to sign him permanently at the end of the campaign. When the deal was made, the only way Chelsea could renege on that deal was if they finished lower than 14th, or pay a £5m penalty clause to get out of the deal. After finishing fourth and winning the Conference League, Chelsea opted to pay the £5m to send Sancho back from whence he came. Now the Blues have been linked with other wide midfielders such as Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens, Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao and, ironically, Sancho's United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho, who has seemingly been banished by Ruben Amorim in the same way as Sancho was by Erik ten Hag. After the Conference League triumph, Maresca appeared to state that he wanted the winger to remain at Stamford Bridge. He said: "We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year. "He's come here and got his career back on track. I still think there is more to come from him; I really do." Chelsea backed out of the deal, as Sancho would not compromise on the £300,000 per-week salary he earns at United. Such a wage would see Sancho earn more than £250k-a-week Chelsea captain Reece James (£250,000 per-week) and more than twice as much as midfield talisman Cole Palmer, who is understood to be on around £130,000 per-week. When Sancho's exit was confirmed, the former England international took to social media and wrote: "Grateful for the experience. Big love to everyone at Chelsea who made me feel at home - teammates, staff and the fans. Wishing the club all the best moving forward. Truly grateful." As long as Sancho insists on his £300,000 per-week salary, potential suitors will likely be hard to come by. United's £62.5m capture of Matheus Cunha and the potential £55m arrival of Bryan Mbeumo pushes Sancho even further down the pecking order. Mirror Football recently reported that Saudi Arabian Pro League sides Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad have emerged as options and are more than capable of paying him the wages he demands. Sancho may also be willing to move to the Middle East, having seen Ivan Toney be called up to the England squad by Thomas Tuchel, despite playing for Al-Ahli. In May, Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen were reportedly willing to make an offer to United for Sancho. Unfortunately for the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace, Ten Hag's arrival will surely all but block any route to the BayArena. Sancho's contract at Old Trafford expires June 30 2026. This summer represents United's best opportunity to cash in on his services, even though there is next to no chance that they will recoup the £73m they paid to Dortmund in the summer of 2021. If a permanent move maintaining his salary is not possible this year, Sancho's next best option could be another loan spell, having already spent six months at Dortmund and a year at Stamford Bridge. However, with United looking to bolster their forward line, they will surely prefer a permanent transfer which guarantees them a fee and gets rid of Sancho from their wage-bill. It's another difficult situation for the ex-Manchester City academy star, who was tipped for great things when he first started catching the eye at Dortmund as a teenager, but whose career arguably hasn't reached the heights that many thought it would.
