Since the launch of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS NMP) in October 2021, 293 infrastructure projects worth ₹13.59 lakh crore have been evaluated through the institutionalised Network Planning Group (NPG) mechanism, the Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, said in a written reply in Parliament on Tuesday. The NPG mechanism is used to assess infrastructure projects for integrated planning, multimodality, inter-modality, synchronisation, a whole-of-government approach and last-mile connectivity within the project catchment area.As of now, 57 central ministries and departments — including 8 infrastructure, 22 social, and 27 economic and other ministries — have been onboarded on the PMGS NMP. A total of 36 states and union territories (UT) are also part of the platform. The initiative has led to the development of a geospatial platform and integration of around 1,700 data layers — comprising 969 from states and UTs, and 731 from central ministries and departments.Planning tools and software for infrastructure projects, including those related to socio-economic development, have also been provided under the initiative. Capacity building efforts have been undertaken to support the implementation. While there is no dedicated budgetary allocation under the PMGS NMP, the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, provided ₹5,000 crore in 2022–23 under Part II of the 'Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment' for infrastructure development related to the PM GatiShakti initiative.Initially comprising 21 ministries and departments, the PMGS NMP now includes 36 additional ones, taking the total to 57.
