Hit-and-run crash in Tuaran claims motorcyclist's life
Published on: Sat, Jul 12, 2025 Text Size: The crash scene. TUARAN: A motorcyclist was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Kampung Lok Batik here on Saturday. Police said the 7.50am crash involved a Modenas Kriss motorcycle and a Perodua Kembara, which was allegedly struck by a Proton Iswara. The Iswara driver fled the scene and abandoned the vehicle about 200 metres away in front of an unoccupied house, police added. The motorcyclist, who suffered serious head injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters were deployed to assist in retrieving the body, which was located in a spot not accessible from within the building. The team used a rappelling technique from the fifth floor and lifted the body using a Junkin stretcher. Bangkok shooting claims six lives near Chatuchak Market

The attack occurred around 12.30 pm local time at the popular Or Tor Kor fresh food market. The assailant, wearing a black T-shirt and military-style shorts and carrying a backpack, was believed to have used a handgun to open fire on others. Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol Gen Kitrat Phanphet, confirmed the case and said the assailant was male and had used the handgun to take his own life at the scene. "Police officers are currently working to identify the individual and determine the motive behind the attack," he said in a brief statement on Monday. Kitrat also instructed the Metropolitan Police Bureau to urgently carry out a comprehensive investigation, gather as much evidence as possible, and examine CCTV footage to uncover the facts and swiftly solve the case. The Bangkok Emergency Medical Centre, commonly known as the Erawan Centre, confirmed that the casualties comprised four security personnel, one woman, and the assailant himself. Public urged to remain calm as police probe teen student's death in Papar

The student, Zara Qairina from SMS Tun Datu Mustafa Limauan, was found unconscious in a drain near her hostel in Papar around 4am on July 16. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu and was later pronounced dead on July 17 at about 1pm. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun, on Monday, said that the police is conducting a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident. Police are working to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Members of the public are advised not to spread unverified information out of respect for the grieving family.
