36 famous faces with shows at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe

Scotsman26-06-2025
The Edinburgh Fringe is fast-approaching, with plenty of famous faces such as Miriam Margolyes and Bill Bailey set to appear during the 2025 festival.
Taking place across 265 venues, there are already more than three-thousand shows lined-up for August and searching for shows can quickly become overwhelming.
But if you are looking for an easy place to begin, sometimes it is easier to start with what - or who - you already know. There are top comedians such as Alan Davies and Nish Kumar set to appear, as well as reality TV show winners like Hannah Byczkowski from The Traitors, or Scotland's own Peter Sawkins from the Great British Bake Off.
David Hayman and Pete Doherty are among British celebrities with shows at this year's Fringe. There are then American sitcom stars such as Caroline Rhea and Eden Sher putting on their own shows, in addition to multihyphenate performers including Nick Mohammed, Eunice Olumide MBE, and The Ballad of Wallis Island's Tim Key.
There is a huge variety to the shows on offer during the Fringe and this list teases just a fraction of the entertainment which will be available in August. But if you are hoping to be inspired - or just looking for some general guidance - here are 36 famous faces with shows at the 2025 Edinburgh Fringe.
1 . Miriam Margolyes
Miriam Margolyes will return to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2025 with her show Margolyes and Dickens: More Best Bits. Running for an hour and ten minutes, the iconic actress, TV personality and author will perform at the Pleasance Theatre (Venue 150b) from August 9–24, with fascinating stories of the man behind the classics. | Getty Images Photo Sales
2 . Tim Key
As the description for his show Loganberry reads, Tim Key had 'decent reviews for previous shows' and 'played a pigeon in Bong Joon Ho's latest movie'. The English poet, comedian, actor and screenwriter has previously won the Edinburgh Comedy Award and is also known for his role as Alan Partridge's sidekick Simon and, most recently, as Charles in The Ballad of Wallis Island. Key will perform at the Edinburgh Fringe from July 30–August 17 at Forth, Pleasance Courtyard (Venue 33). | Getty Images Photo Sales
3 . Paul Sinha
After a medical emergency during his 2023 Edinburgh Fringe run, Paul Sinha – The Chaser himself – will return to the festival this year with his show Paul Sinha: 2 Sinha Lifetime. A 30th anniversary show, Sinha will perform at The Stand Comedy Club (Venue 12) from August 1–24. In addition you can also catch In Conversation with... 4 . David Hayman
From his roles in films such as Rob Roy, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Macbeth as well as shows including Shetland, Guilt, and Andor, David Hayman is one of Scotland's most familiar performers. ITV viewers dub The Fortune Hotel 'new favourite show' after savage episode

With only five of 11 couples still standing, The Fortune Hotel is heating up as remaining schemers battle it out to get their hands on a briefcase holding a healthy £200,000. Stephen Mangan hosts the show's remaining contestants, all ordinary people who know each other in some capacity: friends Maz and Max; couple Nella and Tope; mum and daughter Martina and Briony; mother and son Sue and Jeremy; and partners Fred and Min. Tonight's episode left viewers on a cliffhanger with their jaws on the floor, as fans took to social media to fret about the drama. 'What a place to leave it! This is quickly becoming my favourite show' said @ThomasR14336083 on X. 'Wow what just happened on #thefortunehotel that was mad!!' raved @ellie289, while @AthollMills asked: 'NAAAAAAHHHHHH WHAT?!?!' 'The Fortune Hotel is proper snakey this series. Love it,' said Jessica Ransom. 'I'm totally engrossed in this & I don't know who deserves the money at this point,' confessed Thomas Robin. For the uninitiated: guests check into the luxurious Fortune Hotel, all armed with a briefcase each. The aim of the game is to find and hang on to the briefcase which secretly holds £200,000. However, with five pairs of contestants left, three briefcases hold nothing, and one is home to the cursed 'early check-out' card, which eliminates contestants who own it at the end of each day. On tonight's episode, Maz and Max desperately tried to hold on to their money-laden briefcase, but were beaten in the morning's challenge by Jeremy and Sue in a game of ice cream roulette. The victorious mum and son were awarded either a glimpse into a briefcase of their choosing, or a swapsies ahead of the evening's night cap meet, where fates are sealed for another day. Incredibly, they swapped briefcases with Maz and Max and swindled them out of the fortune. Things only got worse for Maz and Max, when their allies Nella and Tope turned on them at the night cap, revealing that they had the early checkout card, and were going to give it to the M's. Ouch. 'This is the ultimate betrayal,' Maz and Max said to the camera as the episode wrapped up for another week. Let's just say it's been a twisty episode for ITV's answer to BBC's The Traitors, and viewers were loving it. The next episode – which will be the semi-final – airs on Wednesday August 27 at 9pm, with the grand finale deciding the winner on Thursday August 28. The Fortune Hotel airs on ITV1 and ITVX. Once the episodes have aired they are available on the streamer. Got a story? Axed Destination X contestant exposes truth behind 'feud' between players

A Destination X player has addressed the tensions between contestants on the BBC gameshow. Claire Tidy, a contestant on Destination X, has spoken out about the alleged "feud" among the participants. ‌ The 51-year-old retired detective sergeant became the latest victim of Rob Brydon's BBC gameshow after failing to correctly identify their location. ‌ Destination X, a thrilling blend of The Traitors and Race Across The World, sees 13 strangers vying for a £100,000 prize as Europe is transformed into a gigantic board game. ‌ With no clue of their location, the contestants travel by bus, deciphering clues and red herrings to guess their whereabouts, with the furthest off being eliminated. Despite a shocking twist in the first episode that saw her return to the game, Claire's journey on Destination X ended in the episode that aired tonight (Thursday 21 August) reports the Manchester Evening News. ‌ Reflecting on her time on the show, Claire enthused: "I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was absolutely fantastic. I can't think of a bad thing about it, I had the best four weeks of my life." She also highlighted meeting the other contestants as a key part of the experience, despite apparent frostiness between some of the remaining players. As the game unfolded, alliances and divisions emerged, with Saskia and Josh on one side, Nick and Daren on another, and Claire teaming up with Judith. This led to rising tensions on the bus as accusations of gameplay resulted in arguments and tears when contestants lied and manipulated each other. ‌ Host Rob had previously confessed: "The great thing is watching how the relationships alter and shift and how trust is sometimes misplaced between contestants." However, Claire has now spilled the beans that there was actually no animosity between them. ‌ She clarified: "We come across on the show that we don't like each other, and it's all gameplay and stuff, but we did sit and chill out for a bit and talk and laugh and have a lot of fun. "There was no bad blood at all, no bad blood between anybody. What you see on the television is obviously gameplay but between takes we all got on pretty well." ‌ She went on to say: "The only thing that doesn't come across and it is a bit sad that it doesn't come across, is the fact that we all do have a laugh. We do laugh and giggle and mess around with each other a lot. "Obviously, the show is about the game, which is absolutely what it's supposed to be about, but it's edited a lot where it looks like we're not having fun and getting along. "We all laughed together all the time between takes, so it's just a shame that doesn't come across a little bit more, that we all actually have a laugh and that we're great friends." ‌ Alongside two other contestants, Ashvin and Chloe-Anne, Claire was booted from the game in the first episode after losing the initial challenge, before being brought back in a Traitors-style twist. Missing the initial part of the competition threw her strategy "out the window", Claire confessed, finding it "difficult" to reintegrate into the game when alliances had already been established. ‌ "When I went back on the bus, they had already formed their massive alliance with each other and clearly didn't want us around, they didn't talk to us very much, it was really difficult going on. "I had to work out who I could trust, who had been devious, who had been working against me when actually all of them were apart from Judith which I later found out." Upon returning home from the show, Claire admitted she "missed everybody dreadfully" and was "gutted" to have been eliminated. ‌ The retired detective sergeant from West Sussex decided to participate in the show (having previously wanted to apply for Race Across The World) following a life-altering near-fatal car accident that required four ambulances and five fire engines to rescue her. She wanted to demonstrate her bravery and courage by participating in the gameshow and its challenges despite suffering from mental health issues, having previously stated: "I have got PTSD and the reason I'm doing this show is to say to the world that even though you might have mental health issues, you can still do it." Reflecting on how the horrifying accident altered her perspective on life, Claire stated: "Life is for living, and I just thought, 'yes I've got this illness and I have been through awful things in my life' but life is for living, let's get out there and show the world Claire Tidy and that's exactly what I think I did."
