Plane catches fire at air show in Texas, 1 person injured: reports
An airplane caught on fire during an air show in Laredo, Texas, on Sunday, leaving one person injured.
The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. at the Laredo International Airport, where the aircraft was participating in the WBCA Stars & Stripes Air Show Spectacular.
Only one plane was involved, according to KGNS. The plane's engine caught on fire while in the air, but the pilot landed the plane and the fire was put out once on the ground.
The pilot, a man in his 70s, was transported to the Laredo Medical Center in critical condition following the incident. He was then transferred to San Antonio for observation.
"The plane did have mechanical issues in the air and had to do an emergency landing," Laredo Fire Department spokesperson Hernan Martinez told the Laredo Morning Times. "The pilot did suffer injuries, facial and head, and he is going to be flown out to San Antonio by air. We have all units standing by for the protection of the pilots, and he will be taken to the hospital for further evaluation."
No other people were inside the aircraft.
Laredo Police said that Jacaman Road and Barlett Avenue near the airport were closed off because of the fire inside the airport grounds. Police announced a short time later that the airshow had resumed and the lanes of travel had been reopened.
The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board is also investigating.
This comes just a day after at least two people died when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoff from an airport in Georgia.

The first ice bath was 45 minutes, and during the short breaks, Jadako was allegedly forced to do pushups and other physical activities. The second ice bath lasted 30 minutes. 'First responders arrived on scene and discovered a 12-year-old boy unresponsive and not breathing,' per the SCME news release. The first responders administered life-saving measures to Taylor on-site. Jadako was then taken to Akron Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m. At the time of death, Jadako's body temperature was 74 degrees Fahrenheit, per Hypothermia is a condition 'that occurs when core body temperature drops below 95 degrees Fahrenheit,' per the Mayo Clinic. A New York woman was arrested on Friday and accused of practicing dental work without a license in a dental office found inside her home on Long Island, Suffolk County Police announced. Yolany Y. Mejia Carranza, 55, is charged with three felony counts of unauthorized practice of a profession after multiple people who sought her out for dental care reported being injured as a result of her practice, Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina said at a press conference. At least one person suffered severe nerve damage that led to partial facial paralysis, he added. The charges 'basically' mean that Mejia Carranza was 'operating as a dentist without actually being a dentist,' Catalina said. Catalina told reporters that the woman previously operated another illegal dental business in Huntington Station, but moved the operation to her home in Bay Shore when she thought she was going to get caught, KGNS-TV reported. A search of her home revealed a 'fully functioning dentist's office,' according to the announcement. Mejia Carranza's patients were receiving only local anesthesia, not getting the appropriate anesthesia for the 'complex dental procedures she was doing,' Catalina said, according to WABC-TV. Police said they also found antibiotics that had been ordered from overseas. Police believe there are more victims, Catalina said at the press conference. He said Mejia Carranza targeted the Hispanic community, mostly people who did not have health insurance and 'many' who were undocumented, according to the announcement.
