Daily Record2 days ago
The new one-hour documentary will follow Phil MacHugh as he returns to competitive Highland dancing and is set to air on BBC ALBA in 2026.
BBC presenter Phil MacHugh is set to take audiences on an intensely personal journey as he returns to the world of competitive Highland dancing in a brand new documentary. The one-hour film, commissioned by BBC ALBA and MG ALBA and produced by MacTV, is due to air in 2026.

Phil, who previously fronted the hit travelogue Scottish Fling alongside actor Martin Compston, will revisit the discipline and stamina that once defined his life as a young champion. Twenty-five years after claiming a Highland Dance Championship title, he will swap the studio floor for the competition stage once more, training to compete again in a world he left behind as a teenager.

Taking to social media to share the news, Phil wrote: 'Scottish Fling, Norwegian Fling and now a Highland Fling.

"I'm so excited to reveal a brand new TV project I am filming this Summer, where I'll be reminiscing about my youth as a Highland Dancing Champion. 25 years after winning a Championship, I'll be training once again to go back and compete on the stage and dance again at a competition!'
He added: 'It's the most exciting, physical and personal challenge I've faced to date, but I am ready, and determined to Fling again in this beautiful dance culture and explore the world of competitive Highland Dancing as a man who adored it as a boy.
"This dance world brought me so much joy as a competitive dancer from the age of 5-15, and then I travelled the globe representing Scotland at festivals, embassies and concerts for years after.
"Today, I get to dance all over again BUT the question is, can I still dance and will I be able to compete again?'

The documentary will offer an intimate and uplifting perspective on Scotland's rich Highland dance heritage, seen through Phil's personal lens.
Viewers will witness him reconnecting with the artistry, athleticism and precision that marked his early career, while exploring the broader cultural significance of Highland dancing.
Glasgow-raised and Edinburgh-based, Phil is a native Gaelic speaker and comes from a family steeped in Scottish music, heritage and culture.

In recent years, he has become a familiar face on television, anchoring BBC factual entertainment programmes alongside Martin Compston.

Their first season of Scottish Fling aired in 2022 and earned an RTS Scotland award for Best Entertainment and Factual series in 2023.

The follow-up, Norwegian Fling, aired across BBC networks in March 2024, amassing four million views and streams on BBC iPlayer to date.
Phil expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to revisit a formative chapter of his life, writing: 'This is a dance journey like no other and I can't wait to share with you how it goes when it's broadcast on the BBC in 2026.
"Big thanks to @mac_television for believing in my vision for this, and @mgalba_ and @bbc.alba for commissioning the documentary.'

Ozzy Osbourne: Coming Home was an intimate film that followed the final three years of Ozzy's life, as he and Sharon planned a return home after 25 years in LA. The documentary was due to land on screens on Monday 18 August, but now appears to have been pulled from schedules, and replaced. It was due to air on BBC One and iPlayer at 9pm this evening. The documentary has been replaced by Fake or Fortune, with a spokesperson for the BBC telling the Mirror that the film has 'moved in the schedules' and 'new premiere details will be shared in due course.' Ozzy spent his final months filming the documentary about his family's return to the UK. The BBC One docuseries, which would have featured the rock icon's wife Sharon and their children Kelly and Jack, was tragically never finished. Ozzy died aged 76 earlier today "surrounded by love", just weeks after he took to the stage one final time with his band mates at Villa Park in Birmingham. His doctors had finally allowed him to travel home and perform at the Birmingham gig. A source said the star received singing lessons "almost every day" to gear him up for what would be his final performance. Despite being in "constant pain", he was determined to play. The source said: 'The filming was on and off again so many times, mainly because of Ozzy's health.' A source told The Sun: 'After delaying their big move back to Welders in the UK for almost two years because of Ozzy's health, his doctors had finally signed off his ability to travel to the UK and perform at the farewell gig. 'Ozzy was having singing lessons almost every day in preparation for his last show wanting to go out with a bang. 'He was in constant pain and had nurses tending to him around the clock but was determined to play this last show. 'His determination came from wanting to play for the fans one last time who gave him the amazing life he and Sharon have enjoyed together. 'Despite his ailments, Ozzy was still very much all there. Sharp-witted and loved to crack a joke. 'After the show, Ozzy was looking forward to fully retiring at Welders with Sharon, spending their last days together in Buckinghamshire. 'Despite all their well known ups and downs over the years, the love Sharon and Ozzy share was strong until the end.' FINAL GIG The Sun was there to witness the final show-stopping spectacular. On the night of his famous last gig, Ozzy opened up to the emotional crowd. 'I don't know what to say, man, I've been laid up for like six years," he confessed. "You have no idea how I feel – thank you from the bottom of my heart. "You're all f****** special. Let's go crazy, come on." He started the set by saying: "Let me hear you. Are you ready? Let the madness begin!" Later, he said: "It's so good to be on this f****** stage. You have no idea. "I f****** love you all. Let me see your hands in the air. You are the best, each and every one of you. God bless you all." The rocker sang five songs in his own set, with fans waving torches from their phones during Mama, I'm Coming Home. He finished his performance with Crazy Train, before confetti rained over a packed Villa Park. After a short break, he re-entered the stage to join the rest of Black Sabbath for the first time in 20 years. The band performed some of their greatest hits, ending with a rendition of Paranoid. In his last ever interview, the heavy metal icon said his "final encore" meant "everything". He told RadioX: "It's my final encore; it's my chance to say thank you to my fans for always supporting me and being there for me." Speaking of his fans, Ozzy said: "I hope they feel appreciated for how much they mean to me." "I couldn't have done my final show anywhere else. I had to go back to the beginning," he added when talking about performing in Birmingham. He lovingly recalled childhood memories of watching football at the Aston Villa stadium. He explained: "Every Saturday when there was a match, I would go out with my friends and stand outside the Villa asking people for a shilling to watch their car." Meanwhile his daughter Kelly revealed that she is engaged to her boyfriend Sid Wilson. She shared a video of the moment Sid popped the question backstage at her father's final ever Black Sabbath gig.

EastEnders' dramatic Zoe Slater trailer reveals another soap legend is returning with her

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) EASTENDERS fans are in for a treat as not one but TWO soap legends make a epic return this week. BBC bosses have released a first look trailer of Zoe Slater's comeback to Albert Square as she comes face-to-face with mum Kat Slater. 5 Zoe Slater is not the only Walford favourite returning to Albert Square this week Credit: BBC 5 Kat Slater comes face-to-face with her estranged daughter after 20 years Credit: BBC 5 Eagle-eyed fans spotted Sharon Watts in the teaser clip ahead of her return Credit: BBC But she's not the only character in the clip that fans haven't seen for a while. EastEnders icon Sharon Watts is also spotted around 30 seconds into the trailer, revealing she's also back. Sharon, who is played by Letitia Dean, hasn't been seen on screen in January, before she left Walford to visit her friend Michelle in Australia after the events of the Christmas storyline which saw Keanu Taylor stabbed to death by Linda Carter. But it looks like Sharon will be coming out of hiding and returning to the Square. In the new teaser, Zoe appears to rain on new Queen Vic landlady and estranged mum Kat's parade. The clip showed Zoe walking towards Albert Square while bringing a storm with her. On the opposite side, Kat is seen smiling and laughing in the sunshine as she struts along the road in her leopard print and heels. But her beaming face then turns to horror when she catches sight of her long lost daughter approaching her. As viewers gear up for the mother of all reunions, eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot soap favourite Sharon in the 40 second clip. She was seen alongside Patrick Trueman as they shielded themselves from the rain under an umbrella, while watching Zoe's big return. BBC hit by complaints over EastEnders' 'inappropriate sex scene' On the other side, Stacey and Freddie Slater were seen looking jovial with Kat. The miserable weather appears to be a huge hint at the storyline that bosses have in store for Sharon and Patrick. Fans took to the comment section to share their excitement ahead of Sharon's return. One wrote: "Yay Sharon's back sorry not sorry." A second posted: "Sharon's back too, she's been missed," while a third commented: "Good to see Sharon back in Walford." Fans of EastEnders were left stunned when it was revealed that Michelle Ryan's character had made a shock return back in June. The Slater sisters took Albert Square by storm when they arrived. Young Zoe fell out with protective Kat, played by Jessie Wallace, storming off with the words: 'You can't tell me what to do. 'You ain't my mother.' Kat famously screamed back: 'Yes I am!' It became one of the most quoted lines in soap history. The plot twist revealed Zoe — who was brought up believing Kat was her sister — found out she was actually her mum. Discussing her decision to leave at the time, Michelle said: 'I've always taken chances. I think that's how you progress.' Since then Michelle has appeared in several films, including 4.3.2.1. and Cockneys vs Zombies. She has also had guest roles in BBC shows Doctor Who and Merlin. 5 Sharon has been missing from the soap since January Credit: BBC

James Norton rushed to hospital after horror fall from horse on set of BBC drama

James Norton was thrown from a horse a broke his collarbone on the set of his brand new TV show, BBC series King and Conqueror, as he describes himself as 'lucky' Happy Valley actor James Norton was rushed to hospital with a broken collarbone after a terrible accident where he was thrown from a horse on the set of his brand new TV show, BBC series King and Conqueror. ‌ James, 40, described the ordeal when he was speaking at the premiere and said the accident happened during rehearsals for the TV show, which is set around Britain's Battle of Hastings in 1066. ‌ While he said the broken bone was 'painful' he described himself as 'lucky' due to the collarbone's quick recovery time. He said: 'In some of the battle scenes in the latter half of the shoot, I'm yelping very loudly and the yelps are pretty authentic. ‌ "I fell off a horse and I landed on my shoulder. Actually it was a remarkably quick recovery and it didn't affect shooting.' It comes after David Beckham speaks 'as a father' in 'family' announcement after latest Brooklyn snub. The actor added: 'Luckily we dealt with it. The collarbone recovers very quickly. It was just quite painful'. Director Baltasar Kormákur admitted he thought the whole future of the series was hanging in the balance as he said: 'I was at the hospital with him and there was like a moment - 'we're f***ed'.' The actor, who plays Harold of Wessex alongside the Danish actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William of Normandy, also revealed a scene in which he bites the nose off an invader, which resulted in an extra having a heavily bandaged face as James was just 'getting really into it'. What was meant to be pretend, turned into reality as he said: 'I literally bit his nose. The poor guy! I went through the skin. I was just getting really into it! It was a stroke of genius, it's those moments that show you are in 11th century England and it's brutal and it's messy and violent and visceral.' ‌ Saying he felt 'terrible, he added: 'The following day we had a stunt rehearsal and the guy came in with this huge bandage.' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is highly known for his role as Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones and King and Conqueror will also be the first time that he has directed. Nikolaj praised the stunt team who appeared to go above and beyond to get the right shot. He shared: "These guys insane. The Icelandic guys, they're brilliant. I mean, there's one scene, the guy I'm fighting - he's in fights in the the big stuff - which is why I wanted to be the guy choking him out. "There's this big, big guy - at one point, he lifts up James - early in the fight, he takes one of the other stunt guys and he throws him against this wagon. And that was planned but what wasn't planned was that he's thrown him so hard that he went through the wagon and he like completely crashed the whole thing. The sound you hear it's literally a guy being thrown through. But they just took it."
