Cold front to hit Gauteng, Joburg Emergency on high alert
As the weather in Gauteng gets even colder, with temperatures expected to drop significantly ahead of the weekend, Johannesburg Emergency Services is on high alert to deal with any incident that may occur.
The cold weather is a stark reminder that winter is coming and signals for South Africans to start getting their blankets out.

Gauteng Weather warned residents to brace for a cold snap across parts of the province from Friday.

Gauteng Weather forecast temperatures dropping to a minimum of 10°C in Johannesburg with a high of 18°C.
Pretoria has been forecast with a minimum of 11°C and a high of 20°C.

Precautions
Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi noted with concern the warning of a cold front expected to hit the City of Johannesburg.
'The South African Weather Service earlier focus suggests extremely cold temperatures in most parts of Johannesburg, from this Friday towards the weekend. Residents are urged to exercise caution while using heating devices. Make sure that all the heating devices are not left unattended while in use, things like paraffin stoves and heaters.'
High alert
Mulaudzi also warned people to monitor young children to ensure that they stay away from heating devices.
'Our residents in informal settlements who are using mostly imbaula or braziers to ensure that they are using it in a well-ventilated area. Before going to bed, they need to remove it, take it out so that we can prevent incidents where they might inhale toxic fumes from the brazier,' Mulaudzi said.
Mulaudzi added that as the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services they will remain on high alert and monitor all seven regions of the city for any emergencies.

The severe weather is attributed to a Cut-off-low (COL) system, which will affect the central and eastern parts of the country. Provinces most likely to be impacted include Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, North West, and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), where isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are expected. General conditions across these regions will be cloudy and cold-to-cool, with a 30-60% chance of showers and thundershowers.
