X boss quits days after Elon Musk launches new US political party

Telegraph09-07-2025
The boss of X is stepping down after two years in the role days after owner Elon Musk announced plans to launch a new political party.
Linda Yaccarino, who joined the social media company in 2023, said she had decided to step down as chief executive.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, she said: 'When Elon Musk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company.
'I'm immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around and transforming X into the everything app.'
Ms Yaccarino hailed a 'historic turnaround' for the company, which was snapped up by Mr Musk in a $44bn (£32bn) deal in 2022.
She added that X was entering a 'new chapter' with its focus on artificial intelligence.
Her departure comes days after Mr Musk unveiled plans to set up a new political party amid a deepening rift with US president, Donald Trump.
It also comes in the wake of controversy over X's chatbot Grok, which had begun to publish anti-Semitic responses. Mr Musk's company yesterday said it would delete what it described as 'inappropriate' posts.

Boeing's contract offer rejected by union members

July 27 (Reuters) - Union members who assemble Boeing's (BA.N), opens new tab fighter jets in the St. Louis area have "overwhelmingly voted" to reject the company's contract offer on Sunday. Boeing's proposal, which was sent on Tuesday to more than 3,200 members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 837, included a 20% general wage increase over four years and a $5,000 ratification bonus, as well as more vacation time and sick leave. "The proposal from Boeing Defense fell short of addressing the priorities and sacrifices of the skilled IAM Union workforce," the IAM union said. Boeing did not immediately respond to a Reuters' request for a comment. The current contract expires on Sunday following which there is a seven-day cooling off period before a strike would begin, the union added. Boeing's defense division is expanding manufacturing facilities in the St. Louis area for the new U.S. Air Force fighter, the F-47, after it won the contract earlier this year.
