Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha worries about 'brutal' changes
Nadia Sawalha has been feeling "tearful" about budget cuts at ITV.
The 60-year-old actress has been a regular panellist on 'Loose Women', the daytime TV talk-show, for more than a decade, but Nadia has confessed to fearing for her future, after ITV announced a series of budget cuts.
Nadia - who previously starred on shows such as 'EastEnders', 'The Bill' and 'Casualty' - said on her YouTube channel: "What people don't realise at 'Loose Women' is that we're self-employed, I am self-employed. Every contract is a new contract.
"I could be let go tomorrow, I could be let go in five years - you don't know because we're not employees."
ITV recently announced that 'Loose Women' will be restricted to a 30-week run from 2026 onwards.
But Nadia really fears how the changes could impact people who work behind the camera at ITV.
The actress explained: "What's been brutal, absolutely brutal, over the last week, honestly I feel tearful about it, is that hundreds of people … are going to be made redundant out of the blue, these are all the people behind the scenes that support us in every way."
As part of ITV's new plans, 'Lorraine' will now operate on a 30-week "seasonal basis", while a raft of shows will be broadcast from a new location in central London.
Kevin Lygo, the managing director of ITV's Media and Entertainment Division, recently acknowledged that the broadcaster is going through a "transition".
He said: "I recognise that our plans will have an impact on staff off screen in our Daytime production teams.
"We will work with ITV Studios and ITN as they manage these changes to produce the shows differently from next year, and support them through this transition."
Kevin recognises that the changes might be painful for some staff members. However, he's convinced that the changes need to made in order for ITV to thrive.
He said: "Daytime has been a core element of ITV's schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade."

Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo?
Is it realistic for the Boston Celtics to trade for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo? With the Celtics currently a second apron ball club staring down the largest payroll and tax bill in the history of the NBA, a trade for a player making as much as Giannis does makes very little sense at first glance. But what if the deal involved multiple teams, and also sent out other players to help Boston get cheaper as well? Would such a deal need to include one of star forwards Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown? Such scenarios quickly get very complex from a cap rules point of view, but it would not be impossible to get the Bucks star on the Celtics roster. The question is more about whether it would make sense. Advertisement The folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel put together a clip with Chris Forsberg and Trenni Casey on "Arbella Early Edition" to talk it all over. Check it out below! YouTube's Victory in the TV Wars Depends on Parents
Here's a stat that might come as a shock to casual observers of the media ecosystem: The media company that commands the largest percentage of our eyeballs is not the mighty Netflix Inc., the Walt Disney Co. juggernaut or the omnipresent Inc. Prime. It's YouTube. The platform represents 12.4% of audiences' time spent watching television, according to Nielsen Holding Ltd.'s Media Distributor Gauge report for April. That beats Disney's 10.7% (which includes not only the platforms and channels that bear its name but ESPN and Hulu to boot), nearly doubles the 6.8% and 6.7% for Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery, respectively, and pummels the puny 3.5% share for Amazon. But before we hail the platform as another nail in traditional TV's coffin, it needs to accomplish something else: earn the trust of its users, particularly parents.

Former EastEnders star Joe Absolom joins Emmerdale cast
Former EastEnders actor Joe Absolom is to join the cast of Emmerdale. The 46-year-old will play Ray, an old contact of Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb), in the ITV soap, having previously played Matthew Rose in BBC soap EastEnders from 1997 to 2000. ITV says Ray will arrive at the farm claiming to be selling farm machinery, but it is not long before his true drug-dealing ways become clear. Absolom said of his new role: 'Well, what an honour to join such a talented team at Emmerdale. It's an iconic show and I'm grateful to be part of it. I can't wait to see what's in stock for Ray.' ITV says Absolom's character will have a 'calm and collected exterior' with a hidden 'menacing streak'. Emmerdale producer Laura Shaw said: 'We are thrilled to welcome Joe Absolom to the cast. It's fantastic to have such a high-calibre and immensely talented actor join our wonderful team to play the role of Ray. 'Charming, charismatic and effortlessly likeable, Ray is an extremely complex character who very quickly shows his dark and villainous side to some of our most loved villagers, leaving them in no doubt as to what he's capable of.' The actor also appeared as Al Large in the ITV comedy drama Doc Martin between 2004 and 2022, and most recently played the role of Braden Moore in Code of Silence. It comes after ITV announced it was to air its first ever crossover between Coronation Street and Emmerdale, with fans able to vote for the characters they would like to see meet and interact. The hour-long crossover episode will air in January 2026 as ITV and STV announce a new hour of soap schedule, which will see half hour Emmerdale episodes air at 8pm, followed by 30-minute episodes of Coronation Street at 8.30pm. Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV1 and STV, or from 7am on ITVX and STV Player.
