ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Wings were defeated by the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday night, losing by a final score of 98-89. One of the big storylines heading into the game was Satou Sabally's return to play her former team. Sabally spent her first five WNBA seasons with the Wings, finishing fifth in MVP voting in 2023 and earning All-Star selections in 2021 and 2023.
Sabally, who was acquired by the Mercury in a trade during the offseason, was asked about returning to Dallas after the game.

'The city booed me so I'm moving on,' Sabally told reporters. 'I was happy to see everyone in the back and hug everyone. And I was actually really happy to come here. But then, I guess it's also a sign of respect to be booed, so I'll take that.'
There certainly wasn't an alarming amount of boos when Sabally was announced at College Park Center on Thursday night. There were some, though, especially when she shot free throws. The former Wings star clearly heard the noise.
The Wings had nothing but positive things to say about Sabally, though.
Paige Bueckers and Chris Koclanes shared their thoughts on Sabally's game before Thursday's contest.

'She just has versatility to her game… She can shoot the three, she can shoot the mid-range,' Bueckers said of Sabally. 'Get to the paint, get to the rim, get to the free throw line. Her size, of course. She provides a lot of problems on both sides of the floor.'
'Just incredible player, did a lot for this organization, for this city, for this team,' Koclanes told reporters. 'Just a matchup nightmare… She's one of the best, she's one of the best in this league. Did a lot for this organization. I'm sure she will get a wonderful welcome back to Dallas.'
Koclanes and Bueckers were not with the Wings last season — but they clearly still have respect for Sabally. The Mercury forward is in the middle of a strong 2025 campaign and she has clearly settled into her new home with Phoenix.
The Wings and Mercury will play once again on Monday in Phoenix. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 PM EST as the Western Conference opponents prepare for a rematch.

Cinco de Buy Low: UDFA looks to show Cowboys the draft isn't the only place to find a star

The Dallas Cowboys made a tough decision. With a ton of holes to fill, as well as the usual concerns about depth at every position, there weren't going to be enough bullets in the proverbial gun to hit every target during the draft. The club didn't sign any veteran players at the safety position in free agency, moving the onus to address the position to the draft haul. With their nine selections this past April, the club didn't use a single one on the safety position, making it clear the idea was to run it back with the weapons they had, and hope the new coaching regime would be able to change their play. The team didn't grab any collegiate talent until the UDFA period, where they named Syracuse safety Alijah 'Cinco' Clark. A transfer from Rutgers, Clark spent the last three seasons with the Orange before an invite to the East-West Shrine Bowl put him on the radar of several NFL teams. Clark was a cornerback in high school, the No. 2 recruit from New Jersey in 2021, and survived a coaching change after he planted his feet in Syracuse. He won defensive MVP honors in the team's Holiday Bowl win over Washington State. Rundown Position: Safety Age: 221 Height: 6-foot-1 Weight: 187 pounds Hometown: Camden, NJ High School: Camden College: Rutgers, Syracuse (Film Study Video) Draft: 2025 Undrafted Free Agent Contract: Three-year contract (2025), $2.175 million 2025 Base Salary: $840,000, $234,000 Profile Clark's guaranteed money of $234,000 was the seventh-highest in all of the NFL, and is indicative of just how much the league thought of him. Normally guarantees only get that high when multiple teams are trying to sign a prospect. His scouting report speaks to his versatility as a DB, lining up in both safety roles as well as nickel corner and sometimes on the boundary, too. From Dane Brugler's The Beast: Clark's speed, explosiveness and physical profile are more good than great, but he likes to play with urgency when driving on plays and arriving with pop. Though the hunger to make plays is there, he doesn't put himself in position to get his hands on the football often enough. Overall, Clark has the versatile skill set and toughness to compete for a nickel role at the next level, but his college tape leaves you wanting more from a playmaking standpoint. His upside on special teams will help his chances of sticking in the NFL. The Cowboys know their top four corners for 2025, unless they make a move to save some money under the salary cap. Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson have been entrenched as starters, with Juanyeh Thomas and Markquese Bell eyeballing Wilson's spot. Napheesa Collier injury update: Lynx star out two weeks with ankle sprain

A blowout victory over the Las Vegas Aces came at a cost for the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 2. With less than a minute left in the third quarter and the Lynx holding a commanding 43-point lead over the Aces, Minnesota star Napheesa Collier collided with teammate Alanna Smith and landed awkwardly on her right foot. The five-time All-Star remained on the floor for a couple of minutes before walking off the court under her power – but with assistance. Following the game, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said that Collier would undergo further testing to figure out the extent of her injury. Collier has already missed three games this season. Collier is averaging a career-high 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in her seventh WNBA season. The 2024 Defensive Player of the Year is the current favorite to win 2025 MVP honors and was named Western Conference Player of the Month for July. 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) remains out of practice

Before training camp opened, reports emerged that 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings wanted a new contract or a trade. He didn't hold out. He could be holding in. Jennings suffered a calf injury during training camp on July 27. (It apparently was an aggravation of an offseason injury.) He has yet to practice since then. On Monday, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Jennings's ongoing absence. 'Same thing with his calf,' Shanahan said. Shanahan then was asked if it's 'definitely health-related, not business-related'? 'You can ask him that, but he tells me it's his calf and the calf shows,' Shanahan said. 'So, got to be delicate with those calves.' It could be a combination of health and business. If Jennings was happy with his contract, maybe he'd push through it. Because he isn't happy with his contract, he isn't. Jennings is in the second year of a two-year, $11.89 million contract. The contract was surprisingly light, given that he had a Super Bowl LVIII performance that had him on the short list of potential MVP candidates, before the 49ers lost to the Chiefs. Last year, Jennings had a career-high 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns. With Deebo Samuel gone and Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2024 season, Jennings seems to merit an increase. He may not be doing much until he gets one.
