Satou Sabally's fiery response to getting ‘booed' by Wings fans
ARLINGTON, TX — The Dallas Wings were defeated by the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday night, losing by a final score of 98-89. One of the big storylines heading into the game was Satou Sabally's return to play her former team. Sabally spent her first five WNBA seasons with the Wings, finishing fifth in MVP voting in 2023 and earning All-Star selections in 2021 and 2023.
Sabally, who was acquired by the Mercury in a trade during the offseason, was asked about returning to Dallas after the game.

'The city booed me so I'm moving on,' Sabally told reporters. 'I was happy to see everyone in the back and hug everyone. And I was actually really happy to come here. But then, I guess it's also a sign of respect to be booed, so I'll take that.'
There certainly wasn't an alarming amount of boos when Sabally was announced at College Park Center on Thursday night. There were some, though, especially when she shot free throws. The former Wings star clearly heard the noise.
The Wings had nothing but positive things to say about Sabally, though.
Paige Bueckers and Chris Koclanes shared their thoughts on Sabally's game before Thursday's contest.

'She just has versatility to her game… She can shoot the three, she can shoot the mid-range,' Bueckers said of Sabally. 'Get to the paint, get to the rim, get to the free throw line. Her size, of course. She provides a lot of problems on both sides of the floor.'
'Just incredible player, did a lot for this organization, for this city, for this team,' Koclanes told reporters. 'Just a matchup nightmare… She's one of the best, she's one of the best in this league. Did a lot for this organization. I'm sure she will get a wonderful welcome back to Dallas.'
Koclanes and Bueckers were not with the Wings last season — but they clearly still have respect for Sabally. The Mercury forward is in the middle of a strong 2025 campaign and she has clearly settled into her new home with Phoenix.
The Wings and Mercury will play once again on Monday in Phoenix. Tip-off is scheduled for 10 PM EST as the Western Conference opponents prepare for a rematch.

Napheesa Collier injury update: Lynx star out two weeks with ankle sprain
A blowout victory over the Las Vegas Aces came at a cost for the Minnesota Lynx on Aug. 2. With less than a minute left in the third quarter and the Lynx holding a commanding 43-point lead over the Aces, Minnesota star Napheesa Collier collided with teammate Alanna Smith and landed awkwardly on her right foot. The five-time All-Star remained on the floor for a couple of minutes before walking off the court under her power – but with assistance. Following the game, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said that Collier would undergo further testing to figure out the extent of her injury. Collier has already missed three games this season. Collier is averaging a career-high 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in her seventh WNBA season. She sat out the fourth quarter and was officially ruled out of the game midway through the fourth quarter. On Sunday, Aug. 3, Collier had further testing to find out the extent of her injury. According to an ESPN report, Collier will be out for two weeks with a right ankle sprain. However, the good news is that Collier avoided a major injury. The Lynx released an official statement on Collier's injury on Monday, Aug. 4: "After undergoing an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Collier was evaluated by team physician Dr. Elena Jelsing at Mayo Clinic Square, where a right ankle sprain was confirmed. Collier will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks and further updates on her progress will be provided when available." 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) remains out of practice
Before training camp opened, reports emerged that 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings wanted a new contract or a trade. He didn't hold out. He could be holding in. Jennings suffered a calf injury during training camp on July 27. (It apparently was an aggravation of an offseason injury.) He has yet to practice since then. On Monday, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Jennings's ongoing absence. 'Same thing with his calf,' Shanahan said. Shanahan then was asked if it's 'definitely health-related, not business-related'? 'You can ask him that, but he tells me it's his calf and the calf shows,' Shanahan said. 'So, got to be delicate with those calves.' It could be a combination of health and business. If Jennings was happy with his contract, maybe he'd push through it. Because he isn't happy with his contract, he isn't. Jennings is in the second year of a two-year, $11.89 million contract. The contract was surprisingly light, given that he had a Super Bowl LVIII performance that had him on the short list of potential MVP candidates, before the 49ers lost to the Chiefs. Last year, Jennings had a career-high 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns. With Deebo Samuel gone and Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2024 season, Jennings seems to merit an increase. He may not be doing much until he gets one.
