49ers receiver Jauan Jennings (calf) remains out of practice

NBC Sports18 hours ago
Before training camp opened, reports emerged that 49ers receiver Jauan Jennings wanted a new contract or a trade. He didn't hold out.
He could be holding in.
Jennings suffered a calf injury during training camp on July 27. (It apparently was an aggravation of an offseason injury.) He has yet to practice since then.
On Monday, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about Jennings's ongoing absence.
'Same thing with his calf,' Shanahan said.
Shanahan then was asked if it's 'definitely health-related, not business-related'?
'You can ask him that, but he tells me it's his calf and the calf shows,' Shanahan said. 'So, got to be delicate with those calves.'
It could be a combination of health and business. If Jennings was happy with his contract, maybe he'd push through it. Because he isn't happy with his contract, he isn't.
Jennings is in the second year of a two-year, $11.89 million contract. The contract was surprisingly light, given that he had a Super Bowl LVIII performance that had him on the short list of potential MVP candidates, before the 49ers lost to the Chiefs.
Last year, Jennings had a career-high 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns. With Deebo Samuel gone and Brandon Aiyuk still recovering from a torn ACL suffered during the 2024 season, Jennings seems to merit an increase.
He may not be doing much until he gets one.

49ers Land Surprising Odds in Micah Parsons Trade Sweepstakes

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2025 NFL season is coming up quickly, but Micah Parsons has stirred up the rumor mill in a huge way. After publicly requesting a trade from the Dallas Cowboys, plenty of speculation has been rising. One team viewed as a potential contender to acquire Parsons is the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, the 49ers missed the playoffs. Just two years ago, they made a run to the Super Bowl before being defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs. San Francisco wants to get back to the big game and win it. Making a blockbuster move to pair Parsons with Nick Bosa would be a huge step in that direction. San Francisco landed tied at No. 5 with the Arizona Cardinals. What Are the Odds for Micah Parsons' Next Team? With Robert Saleh back in town as the team's defensive coordinator, San Francisco is hoping to get back to their defense-first mentality from a few years back. During the 2024 NFL season with the Cowboys, Parsons dealt with some injury issues and played in 13 games. He still racked up 43 total tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a defended pass. In 2023 with a full 17-game season, he racked up 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two defended passes. Read more: Vikings Reveal Major J.J. McCarthy News Before Preseason Opener At 26 years old, Parsons would be a long-term pickup for the 49ers. He wouldn't come cheap, but he would be well worth the investment that it would take to get him. There is still a chance that Dallas refuses to trade Parsons and that the two sides work out a long-term extension. However, if he does force his way out from the Cowboys, San Francisco should be one of the teams trying to make an aggressive move for him. Expect to hear more news about Parsons in the near future. With his trade request now officially out in public, the rumors and speculation will continue gaining steam. For more on the San Francisco 49ers and general NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

How Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson balance work and real-life relationships with NFL's biggest stars

Fox Sports personalities Erin Andrews and Charissa Thompson lifted the lid on their close bond with the NFL's biggest stars following their offseason vacation with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce and his girlfriend, Taylor Swift. During a fan Q&A on the latest installment of their 'Calm Down' podcast, Andrews and Thompson didn't hold back when asked how they balance being professional and having 'fan energy' while interviewing the league's megastars. 'I don't,' said Andrews, 47, who is Fox's lead sideline reporter and covered Super Bowl 2025 in February. 'I'm a huge fan of all the guys I cover and I get so excited to talk to them.' 7 Charissa Thompson and Erin Andrews covering Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, as the 2025 game was aired on Fox on February 9. Instagram/Charissa Thompson Thompson, who hosts the 'Fox NFL Kickoff' show and 'Thursday Night Football' on Prime Video, agreed with Andrews. 'I still get really excited for whoever it is,' Thompson, 43, said. 'I remember [Buccaneers quarterback] Baker Mayfield has this crazy, crazy comeback and I totally turned into a fan and that was probably not professional, but I didn't care, that was f–king awesome. I'm a sports fan and dramatic finishes, and no matter who it is — next week, it could be the opposite in terms of who I'm rooting for. 'I like to watch good football and if something good happens for guys we root for and care about, then yeah, I don't care… There is a time and a place, but then you also still need to have the balance of professional cadence.' 7 CeeDee Lamb #88 of the Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott #4 of the Dallas Cowboys are interviewed by Erin Andrews after the game against the New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on November 12, 2023 in Arlington, Texas. 'Listen, it's taken us a minute to get where we are,' said Andrews, who is married to retired two-time Stanley Cup champion Jarret Stoll. 'You have to build up credibility… with not only with viewers at home, your bosses and also, the players and the coaches. You can't go into things when you first start with any job like, 'Oh my god!' People will look at you and be like,' You're an a–hole.' 7 (L-R) Charissa Thompson, Tony Gonzalez, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Andrew Whitworth, Richard Sherman on set of the TNF on Prime postgame show after a Seahawks-Bears game at Soldier Field on December 26, 2024 in Chicago, Illinois. And it's so true. '… There is nothing wrong with sitting on the [show] desk with Baker after an amazing game or any of these guys and be like, 'Can we just talk about this last play?' It's awesome.' Front Office Sports reported last month that Andrews and Thompson, whose respective contracts expired after the 2024-25 season, will receive lucrative extensions before the start of the next NFL campaign. 7 (L-R) Kylie Kelce, Erin Andrews, Charissa Thompson ,Travis kelce, Jarret Stoll and Steven Cundari at Taylor Swift's concert at Wembley Stadium in London in June 2024. During a previous episode of their 'Calm Down podcast, Andrews and Thompson publicly encouraged Swift to give the three-time Super Bowl winner a chance after he failed to pass along a friendship bracelet at a July 2023 Eras Tour show with his telephone number on it. Swift attended her first Chiefs game in September 2023 before stepping out publicly with Kelce a month later.

Dodgers activate Max Muncy from injured list, but also put Tommy Edman on the shelf

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Max Muncy from the injured list and put fellow infielder Tommy Edman on the list. Muncy has been out since July 2, missing nearly five weeks with a bone bruise in his knee after a collision on a tag play during a game against the Chicago White Sox. The veteran slugger had been on a monthlong roll at the time of his injury, boosting his OPS to .832 with 13 homers and 55 RBIs. Muncy returned more quickly than the initial six-week projection for his recovery. He was batting fifth and playing third base at Dodger Stadium when Los Angeles opened a homestand against the St. Louis Cardinals. 'He's put in a lot of work to get back with this timeline,' Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. 'Getting him back lengthens and strengthens our lineup.' But just when Muncy is healthy enough to return, the NL West-leading Dodgers are losing Edman after he aggravated his injured right ankle. Edman left a game in Boston after apparently spraining his ankle while running the bases, and he came out of the Dodgers' game against Tampa Bay with pain from running the bases again. 'Don't know how long it's going to be, but I do think that he'll be back at some point,' Roberts said. 'The main thing is when he gets back, how we can make sure that this doesn't happen again. It's kind of a ligament strain, tendons, whatever it is.' Edman also missed time in May with a sprained ankle. Last year's NLCS MVP is batting .228 with 12 homers and 44 RBIs this season. Edman joins the lengthy list of Dodgers hoping to return soon from injuries to bolster the defending World Series champions' repeat bid. Los Angeles didn't make a bold move at the trade deadline last week, deciding to roll with its current roster while aiming for full health in October. Utilityman Kiké Hernández went out with a sprained left elbow, and he isn't close to returning despite undergoing multiple procedures including platelet-rich plasma therapy and cortisone shots. 'We're not there yet, as far as worrying the season is lost' for Hernández, Roberts said. Other injury news is more encouraging: Second baseman Hyeseong Kim is swinging a bat and taking grounders in anticipation of returning from left shoulder bursitis as early as this weekend, while reliever Tanner Scott will throw another batting practice session soon in his recovery from left elbow inflammation. Roki Sasaki is still on the injured list on his bobblehead night. The rookie right-hander has been out since May 8 with a right shoulder injury, but he will throw three live innings after hitting mid-90s velocity in his most recent mound session. If his arm continues to feel good, he will get a minor league rehab assignment, Roberts said.
