Klang cafeteria doubles as GRO hub, 12 foreigners arrested in raid
Immigration Department Deputy Director-General (Operations) Jafri Embok Taha said 12 women suspected to be foreign GROs were detained in the Op Gegar raid at 6pm.
Initial investigations revealed that the premises also functioned as a transit point for these women to offer sexual services to interested customers.
He said the premises opened as early as 2pm, believed to be part of the modus operandi used by the owner to avoid detection by the authorities.
"During the raid, there were attempts to flee. Some foreigners even pretended to be locals to confuse the enforcement team.
"There were also provocations from locals claiming to be boyfriends or employers of the GROs, merely to mislead the enforcement officers," he added.
The raid was conducted by the Selangor Immigration Intelligence and Special Operations Unit following intelligence work based on public complaints.
According to information received, Jafri said customers seeking sexual services were charged between RM800 and RM1,200 for the acts.
He added that GROs who did not engage in sexual services were free to mingle with customers at the premises, which also offered karaoke facilities.
"The foreign nationals detained include nine Vietnamese women, one Indonesian woman, one Myanmar woman, and one Myanmar man, all aged between 19 and 40.
"They have been held at the Semenyih Immigration Depot to assist investigations under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said.

Pamela Ling case: 48 witnesses, MACC officers questioned
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from 48 witnesses to assist the investigation into the disappearance of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh. The minister also addressed national border security during his parliamentary session. He revealed authorities detected 71 illegal routes for smuggling along the Sarawak-Kalimantan border. These include hot spots in Ba'kelalan, Lubuk Antu and Tebedu. The government has approved an allocation of RM28 million to develop seven additional security control posts. These posts include Pos Raso 1 in Lundu, Pos Sapit in Padawan and Pos Tepoi in Serian. An additional allocation of RM64.318 million was approved under a special development fund for the Sarawak border. Saifuddin said this funding will be utilised by the Sarawak Brigade General Operations Force. It will cover 22 projects involving 14 non-physical and eight physical initiatives. To further strengthen border control, the Royal Malaysia Police has established Battalion 23 in Seri Aman. This adds another battalion under the Sarawak Brigade GOF to the existing three. 36 Myanmar illegal immigrants arrested in Rantau Panjang
PASIR MAS: A team from the 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force arrested thirty six illegal immigrants from Myanmar travelling in a chartered bus this morning. The operation occurred in Kampung Serongga near Rantau Panjang following a tip-off received at midnight. Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed the details to reporters. The bus was intercepted at 6.30am during a routine inspection. All thirty six passengers aged between twenty and forty were detained along with the thirty seven year old local driver who also owns the vehicle. 'Out of the 36, four held passports without valid entry stamps, one had an expired passport, and 31 had no identification documents,' he stated. Nik Ros Azhan revealed the immigrants were collected from a factory in Meru, Klang. They were being transported to Rantau Panjang under the false pretense of going to a non-existent rice mill. A payment of RM2,300 for the bus service was reportedly made by the employer via a cashless transaction. Two women were among those arrested in the operation. The suspects are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63. The local driver faces charges under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007. He is suspected of being involved in human trafficking activities. 'All detainees have been taken to the Pasir Mas District Police Headquarters for further investigation,' added Nik Ros Azhan. They will subsequently be handed over to the Immigration Department for further processing. - Bernama

2 Immigration officers nabbed for taking RM400,000 in bribes
KUANTAN: Two Immigration Department officers have been remanded for allegedly accepting RM400,000 in bribes to allow foreigners arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to enter the country without going through proper procedures. Magistrate Wahidah Zainal Abidin granted a seven-day remand order until Aug 26 after reviewing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) application at the magistrate's court here today. Sources said the men — both in their 40s — were arrested simultaneously in Nilai, Negri Sembilan and Johor Baru on Monday. The arrests were part of a large-scale MACC operation to cripple the "counter setting" syndicate at KLIA1 and KLIA2. "The suspects are believed to have pocketed hundreds of thousands of ringgit in bribes in exchange for releasing groups of foreigners without following immigration protocols. "They allegedly committed the offence between 2022 and last year. Following their arrest, MACC also seized cash and froze several bank accounts belonging to them," the source said. Pahang MACC director Mohd Shukor Mahmud, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
