According to multiple reports, Ward appeared to injure his right shoulder in a one-on-one drill. He was in obvious pain before walking inside unassisted.
Ward, 28, is heading into this eighth season. He has made the Pro Bowl each of the past two seasons and four times total.
In 2024, Ward totaled 49 tackles, two interceptions, a league-best19 passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Tony Brown II is listed as Ward's backup on the depth chart.

The Houston Texans have their franchise quarterback and are known for trading down in the NFL draft, so anytime prospects are mentioned, it's best to do so with a grain of salt, since it's unclear when the team will be on the clock. What's also clear is that, barring a breakout season from Tytus Howard and newcomer Tay Ersery, addressing the offensive line is critical to the future of Houston if it plans on being in the running for more than an AFC South division ESPN's Field Yates went through his first 2026 mock draft and many figured he'd go with the one position Houston has continued to target in the early rounds with the hopes of hitting on: offensive line. Ersery, the Texans' second-round pick, looks like a lock to stay on the left side for the season and beyond, but Howard's role should once again be shifted back inside in a contract year since Houston planned on starting him at right guard. So, who is the pick? Actually, it's Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, who lands in Houston's lap for Nick Caley to do damage with at pick No. 21. No. 21: RB Jeremiyah Love, Notre Dame With Joe Mixon signed only through 2026, the Texans could use some reinforcements at running back. Next year's class at the position isn't particularly strong, especially in comparison to 2025, but Love is the exception. He has dynamic movement skills -- including unique speed, acceleration and burst -- to go along with real pass-catching ability. He rushed for 6.9 yards per carry last season en route to 1,115 yards and scored a total of 19 touchdowns (17 rushing, two receiving). It's not just that Mixon is signed through next season that alters the path for Houston's ground game. The Pro Bowler has missed the offseason with a foot injury and is now in jeopardy of missing multiple games in the regular season because of the rehabilitation. Nick Chubb has been a serviceable option in the preseason after signing a one-year deal with the Texans back in May. Again, it's a one-year, prove-it deal that could turn into a lucrative contract eslewhere, so it's best to assume the former four-time Pro Bowl runner isn't a part of the Texans' long-term future. Enter Love, who last season nearly guided the Fighting Irish to a national title behind his 17-touchdown season. His 1,115 rushing yards also catapaulted Notre Dame into wins over Georgia and Penn State in the second and third rounds of the playoff while helping the offense finish top 12 in rushing. He'd be a welcome addition to this revamped Texans' offense and may serve as a stepping stone toward a different approach in the personnel that already features Pro Bowl receiver Nico Collins and two rising stars in Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel.

New theory casts familiar but unfair spotlight on a Ravens mainstay
Recent speculation puts a familiar, yet unfair, focus on a Ravens veteran. As much as we're all eagerly awaiting the Baltimore Ravens' regular season and a Week 1 primetime affair vs. the Buffalo Bills, we'd be willing to place a wager. No one would love to get back on the field and wipe the slate clean more than Mark Andrews does. The conversations about him have gone on since time ran out on the Ravens in the AFC Divisional Round. Most know why. That angle has been overmentioned. Three months later, it's still hard to bring him up without someone mentioning what happened during the most recent Ravens playoff push. Here's what some don't understand. No one feels worse about the Mark Andrews drop than Mark Andrews himself. What's worse is he'd better be ready. As he enters his eighth season, he's probably going to hear more about it. No, wait. He already has. An unfair spotlight returns to Ravens veteran as a recent theory gains traction ESPN recently offered 2025 NFL power rankings. That attached an intriguing question. Who is under the most pressure on each team this season? Jamison Hensley is among the NFL Nation reporters who contributed. You've probably already guessed who he mentioned, correct? Here is what he had to say about tight end Mark Andrews. "He is entering the final season of his four-year, $56 million contract after dropping a critical two-point conversion in a 27-25 division round loss to Buffalo. Andrews led all TEs with 11 touchdowns last season, but he averaged 39.6 receiving yards per game in 2024, his worst total since his 2018 rookie season." It's easy to agree with and against this theory, but for different reasons on both sides. Make no mistake. Andrews is under a lot of pressure, but so is everyone else. This team is too talented to endure early exits during every postseason. Baltimore's longtime tight end is also in a contract season, along with fellow TEs Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar, but being at the end of his current deal isn't why Andrews is mentioned here. If we're being honest, sure, Andrews' drop and fumble in last January's Divisional Round game are just as much a part of this team's history as missed field goals in Foxborough and bombs in the Mile High City. It still isn't fair to describe those low moments as if they are the only parts of his legacy. He has been a great Raven. Three Pro Bowl mentions since 2018 and a First-Team All-Pro nod aren't on his resume for no reason. No one wants to redeem himself more than Andrews. Many believe he will, and for good reason. Cue the season-long revenge tour.
