GWM P500 line-up gets a subtle styling update

SowetanLIVE15 hours ago
The GWM P500 double-cab range has been spruced up with some sharp new exterior styling. Look closely and you'll notice that the Chinese manufacturer has added a stealthy black finish to the vehicle's grille, roof rails, styling bar and side-mirror housings. This update is complemented by LED headlights and tail-light clusters with smoked lenses.
Other than that, it's business as usual for GWM's Toyota Hilux/Ford Ranger rival, with customers able to pick between three model derivatives: Luxury, Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury. While 18' (45.7cm) alloy wheels are standard across the range, Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury models benefit from additional niceties such as electronically adjustable side mirrors with integrated turn signals, and an easy lift tailgate offering a conventional drop-down opening or a 60:40 split barn-door style opening for even easier loading.

Toyota updates Urban Cruiser range with added features

The popular Toyota Urban Cruiser range has received a suite of specification upgrades aimed at delivering more value, comfort and functionality. The XS and XR models now come standard with a rear windscreen wiper, a larger 9" infotainment system (up from 7"), a premium leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel and dual rear Type-C USB charging ports. XS models also gain a luggage shelf with strings and 17" alloy wheels in place of the steel wheels previously fitted. The flagship XR now comes with LED headlamps featuring automatic light control and follow-me-home functionality. As before, the range is powered by a fairly basic 1.5 l four-cylinder petrol engine producing 77kW and 138Nm of torque, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or, in the case of XR models, a four-speed automatic transmission. Standard active safety equipment includes rear park sensors, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control, hill-hold assist and dual front airbags. ISOFIX child-seat anchors are also fitted. The updated Urban Cruiser range is now available at Toyota dealerships: All models include a four-year/60,000km service plan and a three-year/100,000km warranty.

Automotive giant returns to South Africa after six-year break

After a six-year absence, a major automotive player is back in South Africa's passenger vehicle market, this time with a sharper focus on affordability and SUVs. The relaunch comes at a time when Chinese brands are expanding rapidly, reshaping the country's automotive landscape. Reuters reported that at a recent Johannesburg unveiling, four new models were introduced, with all scheduled to hit showrooms in September. The automaker behind the comeback is India's Tata Motors, which previously exited the segment in 2019 after mixed consumer reactions to its earlier models. While its passenger cars vanished, its commercial vehicles remained a fixture on South African roads. Now, with a refreshed lineup, the company is aiming to reset perceptions and win back trust. Tata unveiled four new models, set to be introduced in September, including the Punch compact SUV, the Curvv coupe-inspired SUV, the Tiago hatchback, and its flagship Harrier premium SUV. Tata Motors' new strategy leans heavily on competitive pricing and the growing appetite for compact SUVs. But success won't come easily; established Chinese rivals such as Chery, GWM, and Beijing Automotive have already made significant inroads with budget-friendly, tech-forward models. The return is being rolled out in phases. A second wave of launches will later include the Nexon and Sierra SUVs. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1.
