John Torode breaks silence on being sacked from MasterChef
It was revealed by the BBC and producers at Banijay UK on Tuesday (July 15) that his contract will not be renewed.
However, Torode has since issued a statement on the sacking, saying he had not heard from the BBC or the production company Banijay UK, and repeated that he still had no recollection of the accusation against him.

In a lengthy statement posted to Instagram, the TV chef said: "Although I haven't heard from anyone at the BBC or Banijay – I am seeing and reading that I've been 'sacked' from MasterChef and I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of.
"The enquiry could not even state the date or year of when I am meant to have said something wrong.
"I'd hoped that I'd have some say in my exit from a show I've worked on since its relaunch in 2005, but events in the last few days seem to have prevented that.'
He went on to say that Celebrity MasterChef and two Christmas specials, which he recently filmed, 'will be my last'. It is not clear if the BBC will air these shows.

The statement concluded: "Personally, I have loved every minute working on MasterChef, but it's time to pass the cutlery to someone else. For whoever takes over, love it as I have.
"I will watch fondly from afar as I now focus on the many other exciting projects that I have been working towards. My tummy will be grateful for a rest after 20 years of eating, but what a joy it has been.
"Thank you for the many years of MasterChef."
Australian-born chef John Torode first began presenting the BBC cooking contest MasterChef alongside Gregg Wallace in 2005.
On Monday night (July 14), it was confirmed he was the subject of an allegation of using racist language that was upheld as part of a review carried out by law firm Lewis Silkin into Wallace's behaviour while filming the programme over 19 years.
Wallace stepped away from his role on MasterChef in 2024 while historical allegations of misconduct were investigated.
A report found that 45 out of 83 allegations made towards ex-MasterChef star, Gregg Wallace, were substantiated (Image: Andrew Matthews/PA Wire) A report led by law firm Lewis Silkin, commissioned by Banijay UK, found 45 out of 83 allegations against Wallace were substantiated, alongside two standalone allegations made against other people, including one for using racist language.
Torode previously said he had 'no recollection of the incident' and was 'shocked and saddened' by the allegation.
BBC director-general Tim Davie had earlier condemned the 'serious racist term' the Australian-born presenter was alleged to have used, after it was announced his contract on MasterChef would not be renewed.
When asked what Torode said, Davie replied: 'I'm not going to give you the exact term, because I think, frankly, it was a serious racist term, a serious racist term, which does not get to be acceptable in any way, shape or form.'

Confirming Torode's exit, a Banijay spokesperson said: 'In response to John Torode's statement, it is important to stress that Banijay UK takes this matter incredibly seriously.
'The legal team at Lewis Silkin that investigated the allegations relating to Gregg Wallace also substantiated an accusation of highly offensive racist language against John Torode which occurred in 2018.
'This matter has been formally discussed with John Torode by Banijay UK, and whilst we note that John says he does not recall the incident, Lewis Silkin have upheld the very serious complaint.
"Banijay UK and the BBC are agreed that we will not renew his contract on MasterChef."

A BBC spokesperson added that the allegation against Torode 'involves an extremely offensive racist term being used in the workplace' which was 'investigated and substantiated' by the independent investigation led by Lewis Silkin.
They said: 'John Torode denies the allegation. He has stated he has no recollection of the alleged incident and does not believe that it happened. He also says that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment.
'The BBC takes this upheld finding extremely seriously. We will not tolerate racist language of any kind and, as we have already said, we told Banijay UK, the makers of MasterChef, that action must be taken. John Torode's contract on MasterChef will not be renewed.'

Meghan Markle hit with blow as Netflix series fails to land in top 300
Newly-released figures from Netflix show the Duchess of Sussex's lifestyle programme has been watched 5.3 million times - despite the high-profile host. Meghan Markle's latest venture into the world of streaming with her Netflix show With Love, Meghan has failed to make a significant impact. The Duchess of Sussex's dreams of creating a media empire hasn't gone to plan as she struggled to get into the top 300 shows for the first half of the year. The lifestyle series premiered in March but has only been viewed 5.3 million times, placing it at a modest 383rd on Netflix's viewership charts. This puts the show on par with the second series of the BBC's Peaky Blinders, which debuted in 2014, and the fourth series of Suits, the legal drama that featured Meghan herself back in 2011. With Love, Meghan sees the Duchess showcasing her culinary and horticultural prowess, offering tips and hosting guests like Mindy Kaling, with Netflix describing the show as "inspiring" and a fresh take on lifestyle programming. Despite a strong start, soaring into Netflix's global top 10 in its first day, subsequent figures indicate a swift drop-off in interest, compounded by a slew of critical reviews. The Telegraph slammed the show as an "exercise in narcissism", and The Guardian labelled it "toe-curlingly unlovable TV", with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 36% rating and IMDb scoring it a lowly 3.2. Despite the poor review, Netflix has confirmed that production for a second series is underway. The much-anticipated project has been completed and is expected to air in the autumn. Harry and Meghan secured a lucrative five-year contract with Netflix in 2020, reportedly worth a cool $100m (£74.4m). This deal, inked through their production outfit Archewell, spawned Harry & Meghan – a six-part docuseries chronicling the couple's controversial departure from the Royal Family. Despite its record-breaking debut as Netflix's most-watched documentary premiere, the series faced harsh criticism and saw a swift decline in viewership. Last year's figures revealed that Meghan's former TV show Suits outperformed the documentary by ninefold in terms of viewing hours. Meghan's Netflix-backed lifestyle brand has also attracted scrutiny after it was discovered her "craft" jam is produced a staggering 2,000 miles from her Montecito residence. Initially named American Riviera Orchard, the brand has been rebranded to As Ever due to trademark complications. Outside of Netflix, Harry and Meghan signed a $20m podcast deal with Spotify in 2020, but this collapsed after Meghan produced just 12 episodes of her interview show Archetypes in two years. Bill Simmons, a senior podcasting executive at Spotify, called the pair 'grifters' after the partnership ended.

Kate Morton, Head of Commissioning 0-6 for BBC Children's and Education, said: 'It's wonderful to see some of the original cast returning alongside new faces, creating a perfect mix of nostalgia and discovery for families to enjoy together. "This vibrant new series will delight both children and the grown-ups who remember it fondly.' The new series will consist of a mix of stories, comedy, songs and adventures, all set in the colourful fictional town of Balamory. Brand new characters include scientist and inventor Ava Potts (Danielle Jam), the Harbour Master (William Andrews) and local vet Dr Ollie (Carl Spencer). Filming will take place both in studio in Glasgow and on location in Tobermory, the real-life Isle of Mull town that inspired the show's iconic setting. The new episodes are due to air next year. The children's TV series originally aired on the BBC from 2002 to 2005, with 253 episodes being made across four series. The willingness of the old guard to return was evident when Agnew told the Lunchtime Live programme last year: "If they ask me to go back then I'll absolutely be there with bells on, I'm sure. "But at the moment we're all just getting excited at the fact that it's happening. Iconic 00s CBeebies stars unrecognisable as they tease return of legendary show Balamory "I don't think it would be same if we weren't involved in it." While co-star Nimmo joked to the Daily Record: "I seriously think this is bigger than the Oasis reunion." One old face who doesn't appear to be returning is Rodd Christensen, who played Spencer. After Balamory ended, Rodd remained with the BBC and presented a series called 'Talkie Time' on CBeebies. He also hosted his own show titled Counting With Rodd that aimed to teach children about maths and numbers. Rodd, now 58, quit fame and was briefly a bus driver for Stagecoach before moving to Las Vegas. Though he shunned the limelight, his daughter made headlines when it was revealed she was a porn star. Casa bombshell Emma, who arrived on Day 27 in a shock twist, is now plotting to rekindle her romance with Harry — despite slating him in brutal Instagram DMs only a month earlier and knowing he's coupled up with Helena. And her ex believes she's gone in there for one reason and one reason only - to get Harry back. The source told us: 'Her ex and everyone else don't think there's any other reason to go on that show apart from to get back with him. "That's been the plan the whole time, everyone is 99% sure it was planned.' The lad dating Emma called it quits after the Love Island line-up was revealed and she told him about Harry. In a string of cutting messages exchanged on Instagram, which have been seen by The Sun, Emma ripped into Harry's looks, calling him 'butters' and saying he had 'got so skinny since I haven't been feeding him.' 'She literally said he 'wouldn't stand a chance now' and told me she couldn't be bothered with the producers messaging her about going on the show,' the insider added. 'It was all very strange because she was asking for a serious relationship with this guy but at the same time she was talking about Harry and Love Island all the time.' They tell us she was initially very against the show and ruled out entering but in a dramatic u-turn that left fans shocked, she made a surprise entrance and then set her sights on him once again. 'She said she wanted to be the bigger person,' they told us, 'but now she's trying to win the whole thing with the same guy she was mocking.' Spot the blink and you'll miss it moment that proves Love Islanders Emma and Harry are still in love - did you see it? In Thursday night's episode, she was seen getting close to Harry and even suggesting a romantic reunion, telling him: 'I think people would love to see…' — leaving fans shocked as she clearly hinted the public wanted them back together. Later in the conversation, she added: 'We're stuck for life', while Harry, clearly torn between Emma and Helena, confessed: 'I can't compare anyone to you,' before adding, 'Of course I love you, of course I always have love for you.' He then asked her: 'Did you Love Island to get back with me?' Emma, now looking sheepish, replied: 'I didn't plan for any of this,' and teased: 'See you back at home in bed.' The pair then reminisced about the house they once shared — which still hasn't sold — and Emma subtly floated the idea of coupling back up to go all the way to the final and win the £50k. Emma and Harry were together for three years, but split after she claimed he cheated and brought other girls back to their home — something she revealed in explosive scenes during her return. The source add: 'They both still own the house together, which is something she openly spoke about and it all just seems rather convenient that they have both ended up on the show together and so close to the end. "No one would be surprised if they were both in on it.'
