Lavish Empire shooting for back-to-back 1500m wins with his new-found stamina reserves when he heads to Randwick

Champion trainer Peter Snowden is considering a Scone Cup start for Lavish Empire if he maintains winning form in the Precise Air Handicap (1500m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Snowden said Lavish Empire surprised him with his new-found stamina reserves when he defeated Grebeni in the Muswellbrook Cup last start.
'We had never tried Lavish Empire at 1500m before but he hit the line really well to win at Muswellbrook,' Snowden said.

'I thought he should have another crack at the trip and if he runs well again then I'm thinking about setting him for the Scone Cup next month.
'If he can run a mile (1600m) then it opens up a lot more opportunities.'
Lavish Empire is second emergency but is over the odds at $21 with TAB Fixed Odds for the Randwick race where Ducasse is the $4.20 favourite.
But Snowden's promising sprinter Zealously dominates at the betting at $1.80 for the Jeff Pendlebury Handicap (1000m).
Zealously resumed with a close second to Wondereach at Warwick Farm and Snowden said three-year-old has been improved by the run.
'He ran super first-up and was only caught right on the line,' Snowden said. 'He has come on well from that and this looks a nice race for him on paper.
'When he was last in work he only had four runs for three wins then he ran fourth to Private Harry in The Sunlight on the Sunshine Coast so his form is very good.'

Snowden also saddles up will King Of Roseau ($7) in the Terry Maskell Handicap (1200m) and unbeaten filly Akaysha ($8) in the ATC Bookmakers Recognition Day Handicap (1100m).
King Of Roseau, who was stakes-placed twice last spring, resumed with a close fourth against older horses at Warwick Farm earlier this month.
'He ran well first-up and he will like the 'cut' in the track on Saturday,' Snowden said. 'I'm looking to take him to the Gold Coast on May 10 (Gold Coast Guineas) if he runs well at Randwick.'
Akaysha won impressively on debut at Kembla Grange earlier this month, recording a very fast 55.86s for the 1000m. She is at $8 in early betting behind favourite Beskar at $2.50.
At the Kensington Anzac Day meeting on Friday, Snowden has Queen Of Dragons resuming in the Gallipoli Handicap (1400m).
Although Queen Of Dragons is rated at $17 for her return to racing, Snowden believes the mare is an each-way chance.
'Queen Of Dragons doesn't mind the sting out of the ground,' Snowden said.
'She trialled super the other day in a good heat and she can run well fresh.'

Champion pacer Leap To Fame to switch to standing-start racing at Albion Park on Saturday night

Champion pacer Leap To Fame will take a surprise step right outside his comfort zone at Albion Park on Saturday night. For just the second time in more than four years and 65 race starts, Leap To Fame will switch from mobile start to standing-start racing. His only other standing-start race was on June 8 last year when Leap To Fame came off a 20m handicap to emphatically win the Flashing Red Discretionary at Albion Park over 2647m. The six-year-old's task will be even harder this week off the maximum 30m handicap and the race being over the shorter 2138m trip. Despite Leap To Fame winning first-up from a break at Albion Park last Saturday night, his trainer-driver Grant Dixon was moved to back him up quickly. • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. 'Trista I felt he could do with another two races before the Inter Dominion starts and that meant we really had to back him up this week. 'There was also the option of a mobile sprint race, but there are a few reasons we opted for the stand. 'He will get more conditioning from a race like this stand, especially over 2138m. Big surprise in the fields for this Saturday night- Jun 7 Leap To Fame will start in Race 6- a standing start handicap over 2138m. From 30m ðŸ'€ ðŸ'€ — The Creek (@TheCreekAlbion) June 2, 2025 'And we are thinking about taking him to the NZ Cup later in the year, which is a standing start and this could be one of the last suitable opportunities we get to show him the (standing start) tapes and see how he handles it. 'The Flashing Red and Redcliffe Cups are coming, but he'll get 30m in both of those. The Flashing Red will be a lot stronger than this week's race and Redcliffe isn't really a suitable race for him.' In Awe. LEAP TO FAME with one of his best ever tonight in The Race by @betcha_nz. He eyeballed his most recent foe, Don Hugo then put him, and the rest, to the sword to once again prove who's boss in the pacing world ðŸ'° — RaceQ (@RaceQLD) April 4, 2025 Dixon said racing again this week meant Leap To Fame could return to mobile start racing for his final lead-up race on June 21. 'Then he'll have had the three weeks and get a two-week gap before the first round of (Inter Dominion) heats (July 5),' Dixon said. Dixon felt Leap To Fame, who won narrowly but impressively first-up at Albion Park last Saturday night, needed more racing before the Inter Dominion starts on July 5. Leap To Fame makes it career win 51 and 34 at The Creek to take out The Somerset Farms Avonnova Open defeating Wisper A Secret — The Creek (@TheCreekAlbion) May 31, 2025 'I thought he should've won a bit easier and that he'd need two more runs, not just one, before the heats. 'That really meant we had to back-up this week and it made more sense on a few levels to go to this (standing start) race rather than a 1660m mobile. This will be a better conditioning run. 'It means he can run this week, have two weeks to his third run back and then another two weeks before the first round of heats.' THE CHAMP GOES BACK-TO-BACK! Another successful raid by the Queenslanders Grant Dixon and Leap To Fame, who secure a second-straight victory in the Decron Cranbourne Gold Cup! — The Trots (@TheTrotsComAu) February 8, 2025 Less than an hour after Leap To Fame steps out, his major Brisbane Inter Dominion rival Don Hugo will return from a let-up in the seventh race at Menangle on Saturday night. Don Hugo upset Leap To Fame in the Miracle Mile on March 8, but the latter turned the tables with a powerhouse win when they last met in the $1 million Race by betcha at Cambridge on April 4. They have clashed three times and Leap To Fame leads 2-1. @ClubMenangle — SKY Racing (@SkyRacingAU) March 8, 2025

Winx's 2025 stallion revealed by owner Peter Tighe

Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Mighty mare Winx will visit Darley's champion sire Too Darn Hot in the coming spring breeding season. Winx's ownership group of Peter Tighe, Debbie Kepitis and Elizabeth Treweeke made the much-anticipated announcement on Monday night, ending weeks of speculation about their legendary mare's next mating. 'We are thrilled to announce Too Darn Hot as the stallion of choice for Winx this season,'' said Peter Tighe on behalf of Winx's owners. 'His pedigree, performance and the early success of his progeny align with our long-term vision for Winx's breeding legacy. 'We believe this pairing has the potential to produce something very special.'' • PUNT LIKE A PRO: Become a Racenet iQ member and get expert tips – with fully transparent return on investment statistics – from Racenet's team of professional punters at our Pro Tips section. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Hall of Fame champion Winx, winner of 37 of her 43 starts including her final 33 races in succession highlighted by a world record 25 Group 1 winners, has produced two foals to date – a filly by Pierro that is now a two-year-old named Quinceanera and a colt by Snitzel that will be a yearling next season. Too Darn Hot, a dual hemisphere shuttle stallion, is already the sire of four-time Group 1 winner Broadsiding and multiple stakes winners in his first two Australian crops to race. Winx's ownership group also noted in their press release that Too Darn Hot, a multiple Group 1-winning son of the great Dubawi, has 'quickly established himself as one of Europe's most exciting young stallions.'' 'His progeny has demonstrated early precocity, exceptional athleticism and outstanding temperament – qualities that strongly complement Winx's remarkable racing attributes and pedigree,'' the owners wrote. • 'A bit of a freak': Wootton Bassett's incredible run continues Too Darn Hot's service fee of $275,000 this spring breeding season reflects the demand for the stallion who stands at Darley Kelvinside in the Hunter Valley. Quinceanera, the first foal out of all-time great Winx, created headlines around the racing world when Debbie Kepitis, a part-owner of Winx, went to $10 million – a world record for a yearling filly – to buy back the filly at the Inglis Easter Sale last year. Trainer Chris Waller has Quinceanera in light work at his Rosehill stables but the trainer said the two-year-old would not be rushed to the races over the winter months. 'She's progressing well but she won't be racing as a two-year-old,'' Waller said last week. 'It's unlikely she will even get to a barrier trial this season. Maybe by early August she could get to a trial.'' Tighe said no decision has been made whether Winx's colt by Snitzel will be sold as a yearling next season.
