National Vaisakhi Fest 2025: A Celebration of Sikh Culture and Heritage
The festival, which also promotes Malaysia's multicultural harmony, invites both locals and tourists to immerse themselves in the rhythms, flavours and traditions of Sikh and Malaysian culture.
Organised by the Kuala Lumpur Sikh Sports and Recreation Club (KLSSRC) with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the event will take place tomorrow (July 26) at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTiC) in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.
The festival is also held in collaboration with the World Sikh Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (WSCCM) and the Kuala Lumpur & Putrajaya Indian Chambers of Commerce (KLPICC).
This year's National Vaisakhi Fest promises a feast for the senses, featuring multicultural stage performances, Punjabi folk dances, lively and colourful Bollywood performances and thrilling Gatka (Sikh Martial Arts) demonstrations.
Headlining the event are crown favourites, including the Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band and Malaysia Punjabi Bhangra troupe.
Festival-goers can also look forward to a diverse selection of Malaysian traditional food and snacks, children's games, a hot air balloon experience, and explore interactive booths hosted by travel agents and NGOs, all geared towards promoting domestic tourism and cultural engagement.
Organising Committee chairman Datuk Baldev Singh Kailay said the event not only celebrates cultural harmony but also reflects the Sikh community's role in shaping Malaysia into the successful country it is today.
'We hope this event will not only strengthen cross-cultural ties but also serve as a platform to showcase Malaysia's diversity to the world,' he said in a statement today.
According to Baldev, efforts are being taken to list the National Vaisakhi Fest in Malaysia's official tourism calendar, an initiative that would not only promote the nation's cultural diversity but also boost the country's standing as a must-visit destination for global travellers.
Held in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia Year 2026, the National Vaisakhi Fest 2025 reflects Malaysia's commitment to promoting heritage, inclusivity, and cultural excellence on the world stage.

And Malaysian legendary bands Slam and Exist proved that with some amazing performances that had the fans rocking the night away at the 'Slam X Exists: Our Journey' concert at the Mega Star Arena during the weekend. More than 5,000 fans packed the venue as they swayed to the sound of the two bands, who were among the Malaysian favourites during the late 80s and 90s. Fans also witnessed the historic moment as both bands shared the stage for the first time, turning the night into a time capsule that reopened memories of their love stories, school days, and youthful moments. Local media and according to Bernama, also reported that the concert proved that both bands are far from over, and the show was a brilliant comeback for both groups. Without any over-the-top gimmick, the concert opened with the songs 'Jesnita' and 'Kembali Merindu', performed as a duet by Zamani and Ezad Lazim, causing the entire hall to erupt with cheers and thunderous applause. Once the opening segment ended, Exists - comprising Ezad, Along (guitar), Musa (bass), Ajai (keyboard) and Ujang (drums) - took over the stage and captivated the audience with a string of their hits, including 'Seperti Dulu', 'Anugerah 2', 'Masih Terserlah Ayumu' and 'Mama Tolonglah Percaya'. However, when 'Percayakan Siti' was performed, the audience seemed to fall under a spell, rising to sing and dance along with Ezad. Ezad also took the opportunity to express gratitude to several key figures who shaped the group's career, including composers Boon Tan and Saari Amri, and Datuk Aziz Bakar, who was formerly with BMG Music. "I'm very proud to be able to sing in front of these great individuals. Thanks to their contributions, Exists remains relevant in the industry. We're also lucky to be able to perform songs they created," he said. After Exists finished their set, Slam took the stage with their iconic ballads including 'Nur Kasih', 'Kurnia', 'Suratan', 'Gerimis Mengundang' and 'Manisnya Rindu', transporting the audience back to the golden era of Malay ballads. The mood turned emotional when Slam vocalist Zamani performed 'Untukmu Ibu' with such deep feeling that it moved the audience to tears. Zamani also recited a prayer for their former manager Johan Aziz, who is currently battling cancer. "We want to express our appreciation to a man who worked tirelessly to bring Slam to this level - Johan Aziz. Let's all pray for his full recovery," he said on behalf of Slam, which also includes Shah (guitar), Eddie (keyboard), Lili (bass) and Man (drums). After nearly three hours, both bands reunited to perform 'Kembali Terjalin' and a 2025 version of 'Alasanmu', before closing the show to endless applause and cheers from fans. "If it still feels like it's not enough, come to our concert in Singapore," Ezad teased before leaving the stage. The two bands will unite again at The Star Theatre on November 29. The KL concert, which lasted more than three hours, was organised by SS Karya Venture and Republic Mokhmah Records.

World Sikh Chamber of Commerce Malaysia president Jalbir Singh Riar said cultural celebrations such as Vaisakhi play a vital role in fostering unity, connection, and understanding among Malaysians of diverse backgrounds. Stranded umrah pilgrims return home after four days in Jeddah
SEPANG: Thirty-nine Malaysian umrah pilgrims who were stranded in Jeddah for four days due to their travel agency's failure to provide return flight tickets have safely returned home. The group arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 11.32am today on Malaysia Airlines flight MH157 from Jeddah, which departed at 9pm Saudi time. Among them was Nazira Frijand Ali, 48, from Kulai, Johor, who said she and her husband had paid over RM12,000 for a "golden" package, only to be let down by undelivered promises. "I could have bought my own return ticket, but I couldn't bear to leave the other pilgrims, especially the elderly. We had become like family," she said, adding that she plans to file a police report and seek compensation from the agency. Firabib Group Sdn Bhd managing director Mohd Firdaus Mat Akhir stepped in to finance the group's return, covering RM71,370 for 39 flight tickets, including one for a mutawif. "I have no affiliation with the company managing the group and never agreed to any reimbursement. I helped purely out of compassion," he said. The group's mutawif, Muhammad Abu Sufyan Mohd Mokhtar Rozaidi also known as PU Abu denied being a partner of the agency and said he had only been working with them since 2023. "In Jeddah, I did what I could to help the pilgrims get home. I'm grateful others stepped in. I've decided to resign, as the company is now facing financial trouble," he said. Previously, 43 pilgrims were reported stranded in Jeddah after the agency, Persada Global Holidays Sdn Bhd, failed to provide return flight tickets upon completion of their umrah. On Sunday, Berita Harian reported that the agency's managing director, Shahir Ibrahim, admitted all the pilgrims were under the company's care but said they were unable to arrange return flights due to financial difficulties.
