29 Thoughts I Had While Watching The First Ep Of "Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives"

Buzz Feed08-07-2025
🚨CONTENT WARNING🚨
If you've been on the internet lately, then I'm sure you've seen all the buzz around The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The second season recently concluded in the most dramatic reunion.
So, to keep up with the masses, I decided to watch the first episode! To my shock and awe, it's not a sequel to The Secret Life of The American Teenager.
Though, spoiler alert, they're not that far off from one another!
Going into this journey, my knowledge of Mormonism didn't extend past The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, The Book of Mormon and a soda shop called Sips.
At the very least, whether I like the show or not, I'm excited to learn something new! And if that comes with drama, then so be it. (Spoiler alert: I learned nothing, but there was a lot of drama.)
So, even though no one asked, here are all the thoughts I had while watching the first episode:
Before we jump in, here's the synopsis that Hulu gives for The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives:
"The scandalous world of a group of Mormon mom influencers implodes when they get caught in the midst of a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines. Now, their sisterhood is shook to its core. Faith, friendship and reputations are all on the line. Will #MomTok be able to survive and continue to give the rulebook a run for its money, or will this group fall from grace?"
Talk about starting off with a bang, am I right?
The fact that "Unholy" by Sam Smith ft. Kim Petras is the first song we hear tells me all that I need to know about this series going forward. All I can say is that I AM LOCKED IN!
Is this relegated Mormon-wear? Or did they just get a really good deal at T.J. Maxx?
A child having a child...
I'm not judging! But I am wary...
So it appears that #MomTok was created by Taylor Frankie Paul and it was supposed to showcase a new generation of Mormon women.
They danced, they cussed, they hooked up with each other's husbands...this is the future, people!
We're meeting our ladies — this season will feature: Whitney, Mikayla, Jen, Jessi, Layla, Demi, Mayci, and Taylor.
I was hoping that they would each get their own intro a la Real Housewives, but alas, they did not.
Looks like the OGs of #MomTok were Taylor, Whitney, Mayci, and Mikayla.
Kinda sad that Taylor's life imploded after the swinging came to light and even more sad that she couldn't talk to her mom friends for MONTHS. However, I am confused as to why Taylor felt the need to share their...bedroom activities? Was there a leak? Or did she think that the world needed to know how she and her friends got down? Seems like not EVERYTHING needed to be shared on the internet, but that's just me.
Been there sister...but also, let's unpack this!
Taylor is talking about her new boyfriend Dakota who is a cutie, but also, comes with drama — allegedly, he was hooking up with other girls at the beginning of their relationship. Meanwhile, Taylor is going through her divorce and co-parenting with her ex ALL WHILE dealing with a public scandal. If there were ever a time to be single, now is it girl!
More info: Taylor shared that she and her ex were getting divorced because, while swinging, she stepped out on their marriage in a way that wasn't agreed upon at the time.
Like, kudos to Taylor for taking accountability...but also, I don't think this needed to be said on TikTok live...this one coulda stayed in the drafts, IMO.
To be honest, I still don't quite know what #MomTok stood (or stands) for but get your bag, I guess!
A wise man once said: "Do it lady!"
Any community who will judge you for your past wrongs is not a community you wanna be in!
A lil' harsh, Mama Liann.
I do not kink shame. All God's children!
The not-so-secret lives of Mormon wives.
Based off of the conversation between the ladies, it seems like a lot of these couples either need to be in open relationships or not in relationships at all...
This is Demi. She is 29. She and her husband, Bret, have been married for three years. He is 46. Do with that information what you will.
So, not ONLY is Taylor hopping into a new relationship months after her divorce and in the middle of a scandal, the man she's now dating is a recovering addict AND THEN she drops THIS bombshell?
Do condoms not exist in Utah?
I'm not even 20 minutes in and we have several sex scandals (swinging AND cheating), a potential pregnancy, a recovering drug addict...It's sound like the set up to a really bad joke.
^Live footage of me watching all these women younger than me living the lives they live.
The prodigal Whitney returns!
Whitney and her family moved to Hawaii to escape the backlash from Taylor and #MomTok, but now she's back and better than ever? (Spoiler alert: She was not, in fact, better than ever).
I'm confused...do any of these women actually like each other? Like, regardless of the scandal, are they even friends?
I also wanna know why!
Normalize keeping things to yourself!
I thought one of the pillars of Mormonism was abstaining from pre-/extra-marital sex and alcohol.
Perchance, the Mormon church isn't the one for you?
Taylor, girl, this is a bad take:
You hurt a lot of people / aired out a lot of dirty laundry...a little remorse would be a good thing.
I have to remember that all these women are, like, early-to-mid 20s. Their frontal lobes are still developing!
On one hand, I get it. On the other hand, Kim, there are people that are dying.
Earlier in the episode, some of the #MomTok ladies were discussing a potential cheating scandal between Whitney and her husband, Conner. Whitney immediately shut it down, but looks like there was some truth to those rumors!
Soft swinging? Lying? Cheating? DIVORCE, BABES. DIVORCE!
Whitney just revealed that Conner has been sexting girls he met on Tinder for their entire marriage...
To the tune of "Hot To Go" by Chappell Roan: D-I-V-O-R-C-E!
Put the cameras down and get every single one of these women in therapy, I swear to God.
I am speechless.
This is not the reaction you should have when your "best friend" tells you about her miscarriage:
After Whitney shared that Conner's been sexting other women their entire marriage, this is her reaction to Taylor's news. I...cannot.
RELAX, MY GUY!
In that same breath, Dakota says that he cannot be with anyone who "parties." Taylor says she won't give up alcohol. I believe this is what we call an impasse.
WHAT IS GOING ON?????
A neighborhood called the cops because there was a domestic dispute between Taylor and Dakota.
And just like that...
Shock. And. Awe.
Somehow, I think they have bigger problems than this:
I am Team Therapist!
Wow. OK. Talk about an emotional roller coaster, one that I'm unfortunately on because I am officially hooked. Do I want to be? No. Am I going to binge-watch Seasons 1 and 2 like it's my job? Absolutely.
Watch The Secret Lives Of Mormon Wives on Hulu.

'Predator: Badlands' makes the monstrous hunter a hero. Here's what to know about the sequel.

"Predator: Badlands," the next live-action movie in the "Predator" franchise, pushes the story into the future. The franchise mainly follows a race of creatures called the Yautja, who travel the universe to brutally hunt different species using advanced technology. It started with 1987's "Predator," which spawned five sequels. The most recent live-action "Predator" movie, " Prey," from the director Dan Trachtenberg, was released on Hulu in 2022. It is set in the 1800s and follows a Native American woman named Naru (Amber Midthunder) who protects her people from the titular hunter. It was met with huge praise from critics and earned a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes. He also directed the animated movie, "Predator: Killer of Killers," which earned a 95% score. Trachtenberg has returned for "Predator: Badlands," which follows an entirely new set of characters on a different planet. It's out in theaters on November 7, 2025. Most "Predator" film take place on Earth, but the new movie is set on a remote world somewhere else in the galaxy. The first trailer spotlights a young Yautja named Dek, played by the stuntman Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. The synopsis teases that Dek is an outcast from his clan who "embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary," although it's not clear who or what that opponent is. Regardless, Dek is the protagonist of "Predator: Badlands" rather than the villain, which is a first for the series. In November, Trachtenberg told Empire Magazine, "He's still badass, but there's something there that touches you emotionally, too. "Creating a character you connect with, but are also super-intimidated by, has been challenging. But exciting." Elle Fanning plays a Weyland-Yutani android opposite the Predator. Elle Fanning is the only major star in "Predator: Badlands." She plays Thia, an android who appears to be made by Weyland-Yutani, because the company's "W" logo appears when her eyes roll backward in the trailer. Fans of "Alien" will know that Weyland-Yutani is the nefarious company from that franchise, which confirms that the Predators exist in the same universe as the Xenomorphs. Whether they end up brawling remains to be seen. Trachtenberg already has an idea for another sequel if "Predator: Badlands" performs as well as "Prey" and "Predator: Killer of Killers." He told SFX Magazine in June that he's excited about the idea for his third film. "After 'Prey' came out, and I started thinking about sequel stuff, there were three ideas that I had. 'Killers' is one, 'Badlands' is two and the third one is something else," he said. "There's a lot of cool ideas out there and none of them are just like, 'Oh, we have to say the next part of this story because it was successful.' All of it is like, 'Whoa, no one has done that in sci-fi. No one has done that in 'Predator.' No one's done that with the creature,' all of those ideas are generated from that instinct. So, yeah, there is definitely a third thing that I'd love to get to when Badlands is finished."

What is dirty soda and where can you try it?

Zhuzhed-up sodas are nothing new. As a college student, I had the deep pleasure of living above a drugstore with an old-school soda fountain, where I ordered Green Rivers, cherry phosphates, and vanilla Cokes while listening to farmers in from the fields jaw over 5 cent cups of Butter-Nut coffee. Places like this are a dying breed. Swig and its ilk are the modern version, so of course dirty sodas have gone viral. Get Winter Soup Club A six-week series featuring soup recipes and cozy vibes, plus side dishes and toppings, to get us all through the winter. Enter Email Sign Up It happened because, at the tail end of the year 2021, singer Olivia Rodrigo posted a photo of herself — black hat, black leather jacket, black nails, in the black night — holding a white cup splashed with a cherry red Swig logo. TikTok exploded. There are now countless reels of people explaining dirty soda, taste-testing dirty soda, and hacking their own dirty soda at home. Advertisement But it was inevitable. With the 2024 debut of Hulu's 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,' a reality show for people so obsessed with drama they want to spend their free time watching someone else's, dirty sodas got an even bigger moment. In Advertisement Dirty sodas at Far Out Ice Cream in Brookline. From left: the Creamsicle (orange soda with condensed milk, vanilla, and cream topping), Shark Attack (lemon-lime soda with strawberry drizzle, blue raspberry, and cream), and Kookaberry Cola (cola with strawberry-raspberry-blueberry drizzle plus cream). Devra First In these parts, dirty sodas are hard to come by. They are slowly trickling our way. At But the truest dirty soda experience in these parts can be found in Clinton, where last year Lauren Nanof and her husband, Chris, opened 'I grew up in Clinton, I went to schools in Clinton, and I always had this idea of a little soda shop in our town, a place people could gather,' Nanof says. She was thinking of milkshakes and floats and the like. Then came dirty soda. She and Chris tried making their own. They loved it. She researched and realized there was nothing like it around. There's a Dairy Queen in town, and ice cream stand standouts like Rota Spring Farm and Kimball Farm in the area. Dirty soda was a niche, albeit a risk: Did enough people know what it was? Advertisement First they opened the candy shop. In designing The Fountain, Nanof made the most of her skills from her previous business, specializing in cabinet finishing and interior painting. The result is a candy-colored charmer, with striped walls, ice cream paraphernalia, neon signs, and a Barbie-pink payphone small children stare at with confusion. The soda and ice cream side of the business opened in October, coinciding nicely with 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' streaming fervor. There is also a mobile soda cart Nanof and crew bring to events. 'I knew it was going to be good to introduce people to dirty soda, but I never realized what a community aspect it would bring,' Nanof says. 'It's so many people's favorite place to come. We're on a bus stop, so we get flooded after school with people coming in to sit. Grandparents or parents bring kids. It's so nice to see people sit down and share a drink together.' The Fountain hosts all kinds of events, from music and movie Mondays with themed menus to community fund-raisers. When they post a drink on social media, everyone comes in and orders it. Advertisement Customers flock to The Fountain for dirty sodas, ice cream treats, and a social experience. David L Ryan/ Globe Staff I can see why. Dirty sodas aren't a gimmick. They are genuinely delightful. On a recent visit, I order a flight of four small sodas for $12.50, a merciful option for the indecisive and dirty soda curious alike. Some of the offerings are too sweet for my taste (fie on you, Cooler Than a Colada), but I would happily drink concoctions like The Founder (Dr. Pepper with vanilla syrup and coconut creamer) and the Creamy Cola Crush (Coke with sweet cream, raspberry puree, and fresh lime juice) any day. Maybe it's because I'm a whiskey/amaro person, but the brown soda options seem to work better than those with a Sprite/Fresca/Mountain Dew base. There are more than 40 dirty sodas on The Fountain's menu, not to mention all the floats, shakes, soft-serve, stackers (ice cream and toppings layered in a cup), and outliers like The Fountain looks as if it's always been here on High Street in Clinton. David L Ryan/ Globe Staff 'Our downtown, at one point previously to me being alive, was bustling,' says Nanof, who is also president of the chamber of commerce. Now Clinton is being Advertisement And so a soda trend born from Utah's Mormon culture 15 years ago helps contribute to the revitalization of an old Massachusetts mill town today. Talk about the butterfly effect. Or, as we call it now, the Internet. If it means delicious drinks for everyone everywhere, I'll take it. The Fountain, 138 High St., Clinton, 978-878-1615, .
