Stree Shakti aims to empower women, says Anagani Satyaprasad
Speaking after the launch of the 'Stree Shakti' scheme that aims to provide free travel for women in RTC buses across the State at the Maddilapalem RTC depot, the minister said that despite the financial burden, Rs.1,942 crore was being spent on the scheme for its implementation.
Through the scheme, 74 per cent of the RTC buses have been allotted for women to travel, he informed.
Further, Satyaprasad mentioned that through the scheme, the financial burden of women belonging to poor and middle-class families will be reduced by Rs.2,000 to Rs.3,000 per month. He said that the coalition government is implementing schemes for women as promised. Speaking on the occasion, Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat expressed hope that with the availability of free bus services, women will have an opportunity to come out of their homes and get jobs.
RTC officials informed that 576 buses have been readied for free bus travel for women in Visakhapatnam district.City Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao mentioned that the coalition government is successfully implementing the Super Six schemes. He said that the free bus facility will reduce the financial burden on women.
Visakhapatnam North constituency MLA P Vishnu Kumar Raju termed the scheme as an innovative scheme. He suggested that people should always remember the coalition government which is providing several facilities to women.
South constituency MLA Ch Vamsi Krishna Srinivas said that the coalition government is fulfilling all the promises made to the people.
District Collector MN Harendira Prasad and Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi said that the free bus ride is a silent revolution.
Marking the occasion, zero fare tickets were handed over to women travelling in buses.
Later, the minister travelled in a city bus till Yendada. He was accompanied by MLC Vepada Chiranjeevi Rao, TDP district president Gandi Babji, former MLC Duvvarapu Rama Rao, RTC Regional Manager Appalanaidu, and GVMC corporators.Meanwhile, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha flagged off the Stree Shakti scheme in Anakapalli. Speaking on the occasion, the Home Minister stressed that the scheme is beneficial for the women in terms of meeting education and job purposes. 'As part of the poll promises made, the NDA government is fulfilling all the promises made in a hassle-free manner. Also, for the safety and security of women passengers and women conductors, CCTV cameras have been installed in the buses,' the Home Minister mentioned, appealing to people to adhere to law and order maintenance, set goals and work towards achievingthem.

Overcrowding in jails: HC seeks affidavit on status
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh high court has directed the state director general of prisons and correctional services to submit a fresh personal affidavit on the status of overcrowding in jails across Chhattisgarh. It has also asked for an updated progress report on the construction of additional barracks and appointment of welfare officers. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru issued the directive while hearing a batch of public interest litigations on prison conditions. The court took note of the affidavit filed by the DG (Prisons), which revealed that as of Aug 5, 2025, there were 20,500 inmates lodged in 33 jails against a sanctioned capacity of 14,883. The affidavit stated that while additional barracks have been completed in Central Jail in Raipur and Ambikapur, and district jails in Mahasamund and and Jashpur, work is underway in several other prisons, including Raipur, Durg, and Surajpur. The DG also informed that the open jail at Bemetara is nearing completion, with pending electrical and ancillary works expected to be finished by the end of Aug. India's leading auto parts and electronic companies such as Sona Comstar, Dixon Technologies , Epack Durable Ltd and Bhagwati Products are in the process of setting up joint ventures or technical alliances with Chinese companies. Lumax Autotech is looking at setting up an engineering, sourcing and capability development hub in China to stay abreast of new trends and technologies. A senior auto industry executive said the Chinese government knows it has a trump card because the companies are key players in EV technology and the supply chain. "They are putting curbs to retain control, stay ahead, negotiate, like in the case of rare earths with the United States. In India too, we scrutinise Chinese investments under Press Note 3 (PN3). They have started doing the same for tech agreements," he said. Indian companies have sought relaxations in PN3 approvals from the Indian government to build local manufacturing competence in components. PN3 was introduced amid border tensions by the Indian government in 2020 mandating multi-ministry clearance for equity deals for companies sharing a land border with India, such as China. Another executive said Chinese companies have always been conservative when it comes to selling stakes in overseas operations or doing large technology transfer agreements. "So, the government wants to ensure China retains the right to control the technology," he said. India and China are planning to commence discussions on a trade package covering supplies of critical rare earth magnets, fertilisers and pharmaceuticals, ET reported recently.

India-Maldives Bilateral Trade Jumps 3-Fold In Last 7 Years
New Delhi: Bilateral trade between India and the Maldives has registered a more than 3-fold jump over the past seven years from $223 million in 2017–18 to $680 million in 2024–25, according to official figures. India's exports to the Maldives rose from $217 million in FY 2017-18 to $561 million in FY 2024-25, while imports from the Maldives expanded from $6 million to $119 million during the same period. The trade between the two countries is expected to increase further with Prime Minister Narendra Modi announcing a Rs 4,850 crore line of credit to the Maldives during his recent visit to the island nation last month. Additionally, PM Modi announced that discussions for a free trade agreement have also started between the two countries. India has decided to promote renewable energy in the Maldives and will share its experience in this sector with the Indian Ocean neighbour. PM Modi visited the Maldives at the invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu and attended the country's 60th Independence Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. This also represented a turnaround in relations with the Muizzu government, which came to power in 2023. The turnaround in the bilateral ties assumes significance as President Muizzu, known to be close to China, was known for his anti-India rhetoric while in the opposition as part of his political strategy to oust the earlier government. The Maldives is one of India's key maritime neighbours in the Indian Ocean Region, and the overall bilateral ties, including in areas of defence and security, witnessed an upward trajectory under the previous governments in Male. This sentiment is embedded in India's Neighbourhood First policy and the MAHASAGAR vision, which recognises that the security and prosperity of the region are inseparable. India's approach is grounded in the belief that small island nations are not peripheral actors in global affairs but are frontline states in the fight against climate change, guardians of critical sea lanes, and partners in maritime security. The Maldives, straddling vital shipping routes, occupies a central place in India's Indian Ocean strategy.
