Questions on Siddaramaiah's tenure as CM persist
Siddaramaiah, in his second term as chief minister, is on the cusp of becoming the longest serving elected head of the state, closing in on veteran Devaraj Urs' record as CM for over 2,700 days.
Despite his assertions, questions over whether he will complete a full five year tenure in office, or if he will make way for DKS as per a rumoured rotational formula, persists. Shivakumar is addressed as DKS.
The two are in New Delhi in their third trip since June, even as an uneasy calm prevails in the state Congress unit where voices from either camps have fallen silent over the CM issue following a high command gag order.
During their visit to the national capital, the two leaders are likely to meet the Congress' top brass.
Unlike in the past, there have been no open remarks by MLAs on the CM change issue this time, following the diktat from leadership. However, silent strategies and maneuvering are certainly on, as the government is nearing two-and-half years in office, said a senior Congress leader, summing up the atmosphere within the ruling party.
Though the Delhi visit is to attend the 'Bhagidari Nyay Sammelan' organised by AICC Backward Class unit on Friday, Congress insiders indicate about the CM possibly meeting party leader Rahul Gandhi.
A similar meeting could not happen last time, in the second week of July. However there is no official confirmation in this regard so far.
There has been speculation within state's political circles, especially within the ruling Congress, for some time now about the CM change later this year, citing the power-sharing agreement involving incumbent Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
However, the Congress leadership seems to have adopted a strategy of keeping both sides waiting, until the Bihar polls are over.
Siddaramaiah is the only OBC chief minister the Congress has in the country at present, and many party leaders are of the opinion that any move to replace him will have a bearing on the party's performance in the poll-bound Bihar, where the OBC votes are crucial.

Madiga organisations protest against Karnataka's Congress govt over reservation
Bengaluru: The district units of the Madiga organisations staged a protest against the Congress-led government in Karnataka on Friday at the Freedom Park, demanding immediate implementation of internal reservation. The organisations held protests in front of the offices of all Deputy Commissioners across the state. Speaking on the occasion, former Union Minister and senior BJP leader, A. Narayanaswamy, declared that the Madiga community will no longer wait or bow to false promises. "We will not wait until the next election," he asserted. Narayanaswamy further warned that if the Congress-led government in Karnataka fails to implement internal reservation immediately, Madigas would launch a strong disobedience movement against the government. He stated that protests are being held today (Friday) across all districts of the state, cutting across party lines. 'This is not a BJP-led movement,' he clarified. He questioned whether the Karnataka government values its chair more than the people's issues. 'Is development more important for the government, or is it just holding onto power?' he asked. 'Justice has not been served to the Madigas. Our patience has run out. We can't wait any longer. If we take to the streets, we know how to send you home,' Narayanaswamy warned. He also criticised the Chief Secretary for not holding a meeting when requested to discuss the injustices faced by Madigas since 1976. 'A reservation should not be given based only on population. The injustice faced by our community for over 40 years must be considered. If a higher reservation is not given based on decades of oppression, the Madiga community will be forced to launch an intense agitation,' he warned. He demanded that all past dues be cleared. 'If old promises are not fulfilled, we will organise an intense struggle,' he stated. Narayanswamy noted that protests are being held today in front of the Deputy Commissioners' offices in 26 districts, calling it a reflection of the awakening of the Madiga community. 'We want to remind many MLAs in this state that it would have been impossible for them to win without the Madiga vote,' he said. He criticised elected representatives who had won with Madiga votes but have now fallen silent. 'You don't speak for the Madigas, yet you have the audacity to come and ask for our votes?' he questioned. 'Is there any law in this country that says Madigas should not get reservations?' he asked. 'During Zilla Panchayat and other local body elections, they keep saying 'tomorrow, tomorrow' when it comes to reservation. You had the power to suspend the Constitution and declare an Emergency to retain your position as Prime Minister. But for the Dalit Madigas of this state and country, injustice has continued even after Independence. Many Madiga students are unable to pursue MBBS due to a lack of money. Do you even understand all this?' he questioned the Congress party. Narayanswamy questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's commitment to socialism. 'The CM claims to be a socialist who delivers justice to all. Then what is he the champion of?' he asked. He criticised that not even a single scheme has been given to the backward Madigas in any sector. 'Where is your socialism?' he asked pointedly. He declared that this is not just a disobedience movement — it will become a movement to unseat the government. He thanked everyone who participated in the protest. Banakacherla: BRS blames Congress, BJP ‘silence' for AP going ahead
HYDERABAD Failure of Telangana and Central governments to stop the Polavaram-Banakacherla Link Project (PBLP) of Andhra Pradesh and silence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, are making AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son N. Lokesh reiterate that they would construct the project, come what may, BRS leader T. Harish Rao has said. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the former minister for irrigation accused Mr. Revanth Reddy of having a tacit understanding with the AP Government (Mr. Naidu) and the Centre and cooperating with the construction of the project. India rejects UK Parliamentary panel report on TNR
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) India today dismissed a UK Parliamentary Committee report that included India as among the countries involved in transnational repression (TNR), and said the claims stem from unverified and dubious sources, namely the proscribed Sikhs for Justice group. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said: 'We have seen the references to India in the report and categorically reject these baseless allegations. 'These claims stem from unverified and dubious sources, predominantly linked to proscribed entities and individuals with a clear, documented history of anti-India hostility. 'The deliberate reliance on discredited sources calls into question the credibility of the report itself,' the spokesperson said. The UK Joint Committee on Human Rights in its report has included India along with Bahrain, China, Egypt, Eritrea, India, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates which are all accused of perpetrating Transnational Repression or TNR in the UK. The UK Government has described TNR as 'certain foreign state-directed crimes against individuals'. It says the 'most available data on TNR originates from non-governmental organisations', and has cited the Sikhs for Justice in several places.
