'Chilling' film about shocking true crime quietly added to free streamer
Released in 2023, Boston Strangler stars Keira Knightley as Loretta McLaughlin, the Boston Record American reporter who connected the murders about the serial killer.
The Boston Strangler was the name given to the murderer of 13 women in the Massachusetts capital in the early 1960s.
Between June 14, 1962, and January 4, 1964, 13 women aged between 19 and 85 were killed, with most being sexually assaulted and strangled in their apartments.
The police quickly suspected one man was the perpetrator of all the crimes.
There had been no sign of forced entry into the women's homes, leading authorities to believe the victims knew the man or let him in, thinking he was a service provider.

The crimes shook the city, with many residents rushing to buy tear gas and new locks and deadbolts for their doors. Some women even moved out of the area due to safety concerns.
McLaughlin was one of the first journalists to report on the murders and coined the term for the serial killer.
Her work was the focus of the movie, which also detailed conflicting theories that the man who eventually confessed to all crimes was not the only killer.
In its review, The Hollywood Reporter called the movie 'smart and powerfully understated'.
'It's a crime drama, ticking away softly as events unfold. Some scenes unnerve, slowly, breathing in order to allow the impact to become clear,' Screen Anarchy shared.
'The Boston Strangler is a standard but solid approach to the true-crime drama, anchored by a great Keira Knightley performance and strong direction,' CBR added.
Viewers called it 'fascinating', 'chilling' and 'compelling' too.
Boston Strangler also stars The White Lotus' Carrie Coon as Jean Cole, a reporter who also covered the case, while David Dastmalchian was Albert DeSalvo, who confessed to the crime. More Trending
Although physical evidence confirmed his claims, he was only prosecuted in 1967 for a series of unrelated rapes, for which he was convicted and imprisoned.
In 1973 he was found stabbed to death in the Massachusetts Correctional Institution prison infirmary.
Fellow inmates later claimed he'd been killed for selling amphetamines in the prison for less than the inmate-enforced syndicate price.
Boston Strangler is streaming on Channel 4.

'It was very stressful – to be a schoolkid and suddenly have paparazzi following you, and people talking about whether you're too fat or too thin.' She then referenced the incident involving radio DJ Chris Moyles: 'Miquita was 16 and he had a phone-in on his show of: 'Would you sh*g her?' On Radio One. I wanted to kill him. I still kind of do.' She then added: 'There aren't many people I loathe who I've never met, but I'd do time for that man.' She then speculated what might happen if she confronted him about it today: 'He'd backpedal a lot, but I don't care. It's like when people say: 'Oh, I didn't really mean to call you a n****r, I was drunk.' Yeah, well, I don't become a racist when I'm drunk. It just means you let it out. 'So I don't care if it was the Noughties, when there was that awful lad culture where it was acceptable to talk about women like that.' She added that there wasn't support in place to help her daughter at the time. 'I don't think she was properly supported by any of the channels that she worked for. She was a kid, yet the duty of care wasn't there.' In 2023, Charlotte Church appeared in Kathy Burke's Channel 4 documentary and spoke about Moyles offering to take her virginity. Trump to deploy National Guard to Washington DC to 're-establish law and order'
Donald Trump has announced he is deploying the National Guard to tackle crime and homelessness in Washington, sparking legal concerns from the city's mayor over who will be patrolling the capital's streets. In a news briefing on Monday, the US president said he was 'deploying the National Guard to help re-establish law, order and public safety in Washington DC, and they're going to be allowed to do their job properly'. Ahead of the news conference, Trump said on social media that the nation's capital would be 'LIBERATED today!' and that he would end the 'days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people'. Trump compared the crime in the American capital with that in other major cities, saying Washington performs poorly on safety relative to the capitals of Iraq, Brazil and Colombia, among others. Police statistics show homicides, robberies and burglaries are down this year when compared with this time in 2024. Overall, violent crime is down 26% compared with this time a year ago. 'We're getting rid of the slums, too,' Trump said, adding that the US would not lose its cities and that Washington was just a start. The president said he signed an executive order and presidential memorandum in the Oval Office before holding the briefing. The move involves at least 800 federal law enforcement officials as well as the National Guard, raising fundamental questions about how an increasingly emboldened federal government will interact with its state and local counterparts. It's alleged the plans involve 100 FBI agents, around 40 agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs. In addition, Trump also said 'we will bring in the military if it's needed' but added 'I don't think we'll need it.' In a social media post on Sunday, Trump emphasised the removal of Washington's homeless population, but it was unclear where the thousands of people would go. 'The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY,' Trump wrote Sunday. 'We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital. The Criminals, you don't have to move out. We're going to put you in jail where you belong.' Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, said Trump's posts at the weekend depicted the district as 'one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the world" and that 'any comparison to a war-torn country is hyperbolic and false'. She questioned the effectiveness of using the Guard to enforce city laws and said the federal government could be far more helpful by funding more prosecutors or filling the 15 vacancies on the DC Superior Court, some of which have been open for years. 'I just think that's not the most efficient use of our Guard,' she said Sunday on MSNBC's 'The Weekend,' acknowledging it is "the president's call about how to deploy the Guard.' The president criticised the district as full of 'tents, squalor, filth, and crime'. He appears to have been set off by an attack on Edward Coristine, one of the most visible figures of the bureaucracy-cutting effort known as DOGE. Police arrested two 15-year-olds in the attempted carjacking and said they were looking for others. 'This has to be the best run place in the country, not the worst run place in the country,' Trump said Wednesday. He called Bowser 'a good person who has tried, but she has been given many chances.' Bowser acknowledged that the law allows the president to take more control over the city's police, but only if certain conditions are met. 'None of those conditions exist in our city right now," she said. 'We are not experiencing a spike in crime. In fact, we're watching our crime numbers go down.' Trump has repeatedly suggested that the rule of Washington could be returned to federal authorities. Doing so would require a repealing the Home Rule Act of 1973 in Congress, a step which Trump said lawyers are examining, but it could face steep pushback. Trump also spoke about his upcoming meeting with Vladamir Putin on Friday calling it "really a feel out meeting, a little bit". The president said he was open to meeting the russian leader first and then a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy or a meeting with both together, but did not say he would push for a three-person meeting. Trump said "Putin invited me to get involved' and even said he thought it was very respectful that Putin is coming to US territory for the meeting in Alaska, instead of insisting that Trump go to Russia. He said he'll tell Putin that it's time to end Russia's war with Ukraine.

The conversation soon turned to the moment Lucy - then 21 - was raped by a hotel porter during production of The X Factor. Lucy was competing on the ITV series in 2012 and made it through to the live shows. But after a drunken night out with fellow competitor Rylan Clark for his 25th birthday, Lucy was raped by a hotel porter who had used a traceable key card to get back into her room while she was passed out. Sharing her ordeal with the Celebrity SAS staff, as she started by explaining what she wanted to find out about herself. She stammered: "Where I, where I...I've been broken so many times." She went on to explain how being on The X Factor was "everything I'd ever wished for". But then she moved on to the fateful night when her world changed and she said: "I was wasted, I was paralytic." "The hotel porter said 'Oh I'll give her a hand' and I was paralytic. I passed out on the bed, so I can only tell you this stuff because of the information that I have been told. "When that hotel porter came up to my room to do what not-nice people do to vulnerable women." X Factor's Lucy Spraggan breaks down in tears as she's forced to cancel run of shows Trying to keep her composure, she continued: "I woke up and I didn't really know I knew what had happened but I didn't know what to do." Thankfully, the fact the porter used a key card was what helped identify him as her rapist and he was arrested. Lucy left the show soon after, with viewers having no idea about what really happened. Recalling how she felt at that point, a tearful Lucy said: "It was tough, hard." It felt like everything was snatched away from me in a really brutal way. Lucy Spraggan She then hung her head as the tears finally burst out before she wiped her eyes and calmed down a little. She then told the staff: "It was seven years of, like, trying to destroy myself. The amount of times I was blackout drunk, again, after that. "I know that that's what that was, I was just trying to shut everything out, but it felt like everything was snatched away from me in a really brutal way. "And I was like 'I haven't done anything wrong'. And so, I was angry about that, I was angry that other people had music careers that were better than mine.
