I refused BCCI's offer of Test captaincy: Jasprit Bumrah
Senior India bowler Jasprit Bumrah has said he refused the Indian Test captaincy, offered to him by the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) during the Indian Premier League. Speaking to Sky Sports, Bumrah said that he was managing his workload and needed to be smarter to play for a prolonged amount of who has been injury-prone for several years now, recently pulled out midway through the final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The injury forced Bumrah to miss the Champions Trophy, one that India won under the leadership of Rohit said that the BCCI wanted him to take over the Indian team from the England series, much before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli called time on their careers. "Before Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired — during the IPL, I had spoken to BCCI, that I have discussed workload going forward in a five-match Test series. I have spoken to people who manage my back — we came to the conclusion that I have to be a little more smart. Then I called the BCCI that I don't want to be looked at for the leadership role because I won't be able to play all the Test matches," Jasprit Bumrah told Sky Sports in an interview."BCCI was looking at me for the leadership role, but I had to say no to them because it's not ideal when someone is leading for 3 Tests, then someone else has to lead the rest of the Tests. So it's not fair for the team, as I wanted to put the team first," Jasprit Bumrah AGARKAR'S VERSIONadvertisementBumrah's statement comes in sharp contrast to what the chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar had said at the press conference while announcing Shubman Gill as the captain of the men's Test had said that the Indian Cricket Board wanted Bumrah to focus on his workload issues, rather than taking the additional burden of Test captaincy. Agarkar further added that the decision was communicated to Bumrah, and the fast bowler was okay with the explanation given to him by the board."Because he led in Australia, Bumrah was the vice-captain (in BGT 2024-25). Once he was not going to be available for all the Test matches, I think he is more important to us as a player. We want him fit. I think there is always that extra burden as a leader, managing 15–16 other people. There's a lot that it takes out of you. We would rather have him bowling well rather than putting that extra burden on him," Agarkar said in the press conference in Watch

Bad news for Team India after IPL 2025 season, star player travels to England for…
Suryakumar Yadav was leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 season. (Photo: BCCI/IPL) The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 got over earlier this month and already some bad news has come Team India way. India's T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav has decided to travel to England, not to join the Test team, but seen treatment for an injury. Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav or 'Sky' will be a massive player for India as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) get ready to host the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 at home. MI had failed to reach the final of the IPL 2025 season, losing the Qualifier 2 match to Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings. With 'Sky' not part of India's Test team, he has got a lengthy break till August 26 at least when Team India begin their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh. He will then have to travel to Australia in the month of October for the five-match T20I series against the Aussies later this year. Suryakumar Yadav has decided to travel to London for right-side sports hernia treatment and is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks, according to a report in News24 website. According to the report, Suryakumar's treatment will start next week and he is expected to return to cricket field by August before the Bangladesh series. The BCCI have not issued an official statement, reports suggest the medical procedure could require up to two months of recovery. In conversation with Suryakumar Yadav, captain of Triumph Knights MNE 🔥 Catch him talking about city pride, Season 3 battles, and what it really means to play for Mumbai.#T20Mumbai — T20 Mumbai (@T20Mumbai) June 17, 2025 The timing works in MI batter's favour, as India have no T20I commitments until August, when they travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball tour. That will be followed by home series against the West Indies – which features only Tests – before an away trip to Australia, all of which are part of India's build-up to the 2026 T20 World Cup. Suryakumar's decision to undergo the procedure now is strategic, allowing him to return fully fit for the crucial upcoming T20 cycle. Suryakumar was the leading run-getter for MI in the IPL 2025 season with 717 runs in 16 matches at an average of 65.18 and a strike rate of 167.9. Remarkably, he scored 25 or more in all 16 innings, setting a new T20 record for most consecutive 25+ scores. He also turned out for Triumph Knights MNE in the Mumbai T20 League 2025 earlier this month, but his side managed just one win in five matches, missing out on the Playoffs. He notched up 122 runs in five innings in the tournament.

Shastri backs his 2021 'KL Rahul' decision to lock-in India's top-4 vs England, hands debut cap for Leeds Test
Team India will return to Test action on June 20 when it kicks off its World Test Championship cycle against England. The match in Leeds precedes a generational transition, with batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leaving the format last month. A new-look Indian team, led by young captain Shubman Gill, will look to make a mark from the outset in the opening Test at Headingley, and ahead of the match, former India head coach Ravi Shastri has named his XI. India's new leadership duo of Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir will have some defining calls to make ahead of the first Test, none bigger than naming the next No.4. It's not just a position; it's a legacy. For decades, India's no.4 in Tests has been the epicentre of greatness. From Sachin Tendulkar, who held it through the 2000s, to Virat Kohli, who inherited it seamlessly after Tendulkar's retirement in 2013, the slot has been reserved for generational giants. With Kohli stepping away from Test cricket earlier this year, that storied position now lies vacant. In terms of experience, KL Rahul remains India's most experienced batter in the current lineup, but Shastri believes the new captain, Gill, should be occupying the role. Rahul, he believes, is suited best at the top. 'It would be (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, and with him will be KL. Rahul, because I think this is a big tour for him. He's the most experienced of the batsmen,' Shastri told The ICC Review as he listed his side. 'He opened last time when India toured England, got a hundred, (and) had a good tour. So I would hope for him to open the innings. 'Three, I'll go with the youngster, Sai Sudarshan. 'Whatever I've seen of him, he's very impressive. This will be good exposure for him, this tour.' While Shastri named Gill as his no.4, he sees a comeback for Karun Nair in the Test XI after 8 years. 'In all probability, depending on what current form is, it'll be Karun Nair. He bats at five, it's a long time since he played for India. Six will be (Rishabh) Pant.' 'I think he (Nair) has worked really hard. He's just worked his way back into the side. The number of runs he's got in first-last cricket is incredible. 'And I met him during an IPL game. I said, 'don't just bang the door. Just kick it down and make your way in and walk into that side'. And I think he's done just that. Just the number of runs that he's got has made the selectors look in that direction and give him a place.'
