Laguna Beach graduates hope to ‘catalyze' positive change
Following community tradition, the class of 2025 got a head start on the celebration on Tuesday, when the procession of the graduates to Main Beach took place.
Julian Reichel added to his legend at Laguna Beach as the valedictorian. The striker helped the Breakers win the CIF Southern Section Division 4 boys' soccer title this season, the fourth for the program and first since 2002.
Reichel delivered a valedictory address focused on encouraging those fortunate enough to grow up in the community to drive success not just for themselves.
'Now, we not only have the power to decide where we will go, what we will pursue, and who we become, but we have the power to catalyze change,' Reichel said. 'I am sincerely proud of our work up to this point, and I'm inspired by the achievements of my peers. I truly believe in our capacity to be more than ourselves and help others prosper.'
Lauren Norrix drew the vocal assignment for the national anthem, and Reyna Shahrestany led the attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dee Perry, the president of the board of education for the Laguna Beach Unified School District, accepted the candidates for graduation at the commencement ceremony.

The tallest player in NBL history Tacko Fall will not return to the New Zealand Breakers to see out the final year of his contract. Watch: Record-breaking team reunites in Idaho to pass baseball
May 27 (UPI) -- A pair of serial Guinness World Record-breakers reunited in Idaho to capture the title for the most behind-the-back baseball catches in one minute. David Rush, who holds the most concurrent Guinness World Records titles, reunited with former neighbor Jonathan "Hollywood" Hannon in Boise. The two men had been neighbors and record-breaking partners for several years before Hannon moved to Michigan. "We were neighbors and co-conspirators in over 30 world record titles. From speed challenges to coordination stunts, we've always pushed each other to the edge of what's possible -- and then a little further," Rush wrote online. The pair took time during their reunion to take on the title for the most behind-the-back baseball catches in one minute, which stood at 30. "We didn't jump right into it. It took a few warm-ups, a couple of mistimed tosses, and a solid rhythm to get back in sync. But once we locked in, the chemistry was undeniable -- just like old times," Rush said. The men successfully took the record with 39 catches in one minute. Rush said the record also gave the pair another distinction. "With this new title, we believe we now hold the most active Guinness World Records together as a duo," he wrote. "From Boise backyards to official record-breaking stages, our partnership has always been about fun, challenge, and pushing limits -- together."
