GITT IT DONE Chelsea 'want to wrap up deal for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens before Club World Cup' with Sancho future in doubt
CHELSEA are in talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign Jamie Gittens and want a deal done before the Club World Cup, transfer reports say.

But a winger is also on their wishlist with Dortmund's Gittens a top priority and both clubs are now in negotiations, according to the Telegraph.
Chelsea inquired about the wideman in January and Dortmund have been braced for summer bids worth £50million - matching his release clause.
It comes amid uncertainty around Jadon Sancho's future after his loan from Manchester United nears an end.
Chelsea have an obligation to buy him for £25m or pay a £5m penalty to get out of the deal.

Sancho finished the season five goals in 42 games but his wages - believed to be around £350,000-a-week - prove a stumbling block for any suitor.
Gittens - who spent time at Chelsea's academy - meanwhile ended the last campaign with 12 goals in 48 games.
He had spells with Reading and City's academy before moving to Germany and progressing into Dortmund's first-team.
Gittens joins the likes of Sancho and Jude Bellingham to have made their name in the Bundesliga.

He helped Dortmund get to the Champions League final in 2024 - losing to Bellingham's Real Madrid.
Earlier this season Gittens became the youngest English player to score in the Champion League – aged 20 and 75 days – when he netted against Real Madrid.
Chelsea finally discover Club World Cup opponents as former star, 38, assists dramatic winner to set up reunion
Gittens has played for England at youth level - not yet making a senior appearance - but will not play in this summer's Under-21 Euros.
That is because he is set to travel with Dortmund for the Club World Cup in America - joining Chelsea in the expanded 32-team tournament.
But the Blues are said to want the winger signed by the time they set off for the States.
Chelsea are also linked with United's Alejandro Garnacho, who is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer.
The West Londoners held talks for the Argentine last January and have also been tracking Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams.
Chelsea are also looking to clear out players this summer with Noni Madueke - who scored 11 last season - also believed to be on the market.
Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix - who spent the second half of last season on loan at AC Milan - are other attackers up for sale.
Goalkeepers Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic could also be sold if the right bid comes in.
Renato Veiga, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi are all due back from their respective loans but remain of favour in defence.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu are midfielders with uncertain futures.
And Raheem Sterling, who has two years left on his £325,000-a-week contract - has no future at Chelsea after a disappointing Arsenal loan spell.

Chelsea's busy week
Chelsea ideally want to do more than a deal every single day before the transfer deadline on 1 September. They are targeting moves for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig's versatile attacking midfielder Xavi Simons. For those two moves to go through, they want to sell both striker Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, while academy graduate Tyrique George would also see his game time reduced and is being allowed to explore both loan and permanent moves away from Stamford Bridge. That's five deals but defender Aaron Anselmino is also allowed to leave on loan before the transfer deadline. Now, we reach the so-called 'bomb squad', which features Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi, Alex Matos, Alfie Gilchrist and David Datro Fofana. They are all for sale. There is a limited chance for players to leave on overseas loan moves as Fifa limit overseas loanees to six players with four spots already filled. That effectively rules out the chance to even offer loan with obligation to buy moves for the likes of Jackson, Nkunku and others before the transfer deadline. Many of the clubs keen on Jackson, including Juventus and Napoli, would prefer to at least initially loan him, with at least £60m needed to sign him permanently. In total, Chelsea are looking to sign, sell and loan 13 players in 12 remaining days, with negotiations, legal documents and medicals all needing to be done, drafted and organised to allow moves to go through. In recent seasons, Chelsea have had late flurries for transfers before deadline day and again expect to be busy, with several transfer windows remaining open after those in the big five leagues close on 1 September. Loan moves for academy trained players who are under 21 are exempt from the rules.

Russell Martin slaughtered for ‘incomprehensible choices' over Rangers tactics & line-up including Nico Raskin decision
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RANGERS manager Russell Martin has been slammed for making 'incomprehensible choices' in his team by top Belgian boss Hans Vanhaezebrouck after their shock Champions League defeat. The Ibrox side will travel to Belgium next week and have to overcome a two-goal deficit after a disastrous start to the play-offs this week, where they were 3-0 down after 20 minutes before grabbing a second half consolation. 3 Russell Martin's tactics have been called into question by a Belgian coach/pundit Credit: Willie Vass 3 In particular, his use of Nicolas Raskin against Club Brugge Credit: PA New Ibrox boss Martin has come under fire already after a disappointing start to his tenure with Rangers being held to draws in the Premiership by Motherwell and Dundee. And former Anderlecht, Gent and Genk boss-turned Belgian TV pundit Vanhaezebrouck was unimpressed with Martin's tactics and team selection. He pointed out: "Rangers manager Russell Martin made many strange choices for me. "He put Jayden Meghoma straight in at left-back after just two days at the club and then moved Max Aarons to right-back, even though James Tavernier is playing better. "And I didn't understand their midfield at all. "Nicolas Raskin was played too deep and Joe Rothwell too high. That doesn't work. "And without the injured Cyriel Dessers, Rangers were much weaker up front. "Rangers defended set pieces with a mixture of man-marking and zonal marking and I knew there was something there for Club Brugge. They executed their plan superbly. "But it's only 3-1 and it's football, so anything could happen in the second leg. "Look at Club Brugge's home game against RB Salzburg - they missed a truckload of chances and were still 2-0 down at half time. Rangers MISS OUT on top striker target as failures of loan strategy exposed "The tie is still at half time. "I would say Club Brugge have a 90 per cent chance of progressing, but would point out that Rangers had a lot of chances too so it's not a formality." 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Soccer Champions Bayern Munich in pole position for Bundesliga start despite short pre-season
BERLIN, Aug 21 - Champions Bayern Munich kick off the new Bundesliga season against visitors RB Leipzig on Friday, knowing they are the team to beat once more even though they had a shortened pre-season following the Club World Cup in the United States. Having won the league title 12 times in the last 13 years, the Bavarians have spent more than any other club in the close season to bring in Luis Diaz from Liverpool for a reported 70 million euros ($81.60 million) -- their third highest transfer ever -- as well as Germany internationals Jonathan Tah and Tom Bischof to boost the quality of their squad. However, they also had a shortened break and pre-season preparation, along with fellow Club World Cup competitors Borussia Dortmund, due to the tournament in the United States stretching well into July. Bayern still earned their first trophy of the season last week, beating German Cup winners VfB Stuttgart 2-1 in the German Supercup on Saturday, despite some players cramping. "The cramping, with a short pre-season it is normal, especially in a final," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany told a press conference on Thursday. "But we are mentally here. The hunger is here. I don't want to talk about any negative impact of the Club World Cup. We want to take another step to get better. The motivation is not less than last year." "The bar has to be higher," Kompany said. "As regards the favourites tag, yes, we are the champions so that's ok, but that won't win us the game tomorrow. For me what is important is to have a hunger of a team that has not won anything and wants to win something for the first time." Bayer Leverkusen are undergoing a full overhaul following the departure of coach Xabi Alonso, who led them to the domestic league and Cup double in 2024, and star player Florian Wirtz, along with half a dozen other key players. With playmaker Granit Xhaka also gone, new coach Erik ten Haag has his work cut out as he succeeds Alonso on the Leverkusen bench, and is unlikely to instantly mount a serious title challenge. They start their league campaign on Saturday against visiting Hoffenheim. Bayern's most likely title rivals look to be Dortmund, who travel to St Pauli on Saturday. Coach Niko Kovac, who took over midway through last season, steadied the ship and led them to a Champions League qualifying spot. He has since brought in Jobe Bellingham and Yan Couto from the English leagues. Hamburg SV will mark their return to top flight after seven years in the second division with a season opener at Borussia Moenchengladbach, having won promotion along with Cologne last season.
