Ex-Chelsea star reveals he has been dealing with hair loss for 'many years' as he shows off transformation after looking unrecognisable in new photo that went viral

Daily Mail24-04-2025

Former Chelsea star David Luiz has revealed he has been receiving treatment for baldness for 'many years' after a new photo of him went viral recently.
The Champions League winner, 38, had two separate spells at Chelsea between 2011 and 2019, while he also spent two years at Arsenal before returning to Brazil in 2021.
During his time in England, he was known for his long, curly locks, with some fans even wearing wigs in the crowd to show support for his unique haircut.
But a photo from the weekend of him in action for Brazilian outfit Fortaleza shocked fans as it showed Luiz with a significant bald patch on the top of his head.
Luiz has now released a video with his barber to explain how he has been dealing with his hair loss issue for some time.
In the video, Luiz revealed: 'Over the years, I've lost a little hair. I have treated baldness for many years.
'I used to be a cap lover back in the beginning. Now, over the years I have much more difficulty to leave the hair as I liked, the one fullest of curls, the curly way I liked it.
'It was a lot more work too. It was easier for me to put on the cap and do the style this way.'
Luiz then removed his cap to show his long locks, but admitted that his hair was thinning and in need of attention.
The barber seemed less concerned, insisting there was still 'huge potential' for Luiz to continue with his own trademark style.
He then gave Luiz a haircut, leaving the defender looking like a new man as he jokingly asked: 'where did you stick the baldness!?'
Luiz appeared delighted with the significant transformation as he ran his fingers through his hair to check that there were no patches without hair.
The barber was also proud of his work, with Luiz looking younger than ever, as he declared that the Brazilian star has 'a lot of football still ahead'.
Luiz joined Fortaleza at the start of the year and has featured in all five of their league matches so far this season.
Fortaleza are currently 14th in Brazil's top division, having taken five points from as many games.

Andy Robertson makes decision on leaving Liverpool for Atletico Madrid

Andy Robertson's stance on leaving Anfield has been revealed with Atletico Madrid determined to sign the Liverpool legend. An ever-present for the Reds since signing from Hull City in 2017 for just £8.5million, Robertson is considered one of the Premier League's greatest defenders. The left-back's trophy cabinet includes two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup and the Club World Cup. After blossoming under Jurgen Klopp, the Scotland captain continued to perform well under Arne Slot last season, though his offensive influence dropped significantly, recording no goals and just two assists in 45 appearances. Liverpool have been looking at long-term replacements for the 31-year-old and appear to have found their man, with Milos Kerkex expected to join from AFC Bournemouth. As a result, Robertson's future at Anfield is up in the air, especially as he's entered the final year of his contract. It has now been reported by various outlets that Atletico have made Robertson a top target, with Diego Simeone needing a new left-back. Reinildo and Cesar Azpilicueta are both out of contract this summer and the Madrid club recently dropped their interest in AC Milan's Theo Hernandez. More Trending And, according to Fabrizio Romano, Robertson is indeed keen on joining the La Liga giants who are currently in the USA for the revamped Club World Cup, and talks over a transfer have already begun. Simeone has targeted several notable Premier League stars over the past few years, signing Azpilicueta and Conor Gallagher from Chelsea and Julian Alvarez from Manchester City Should he make the move, the Scot will directly come up against his former Reds teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold who has just completed his transfer to Real Madrid. Earlier this week, Robertson said there had been positive talks with Liverpool over his future, but he is still unclear what is ahead for him. 'We've had good discussions, me and the club, but what the future holds, I'm not sure,' he told Sky Sports. 'All I know is I fly off on holiday and it's well needed. I need a rest after a long season, and then I look forward to pre-season. That's all my focus is. 'I know the position I'm in, I know I've only got a year left. A lot's getting spoken about it, a lot's getting said, but my pure focus is focussing on being a dad for the next couple of weeks and enjoying that time with the kids.' Read the full quotes here. Viktor Gyokeres: Striker would prefer move to Arsenal over Man United

Manchester United's hopes of signing Viktor Gyokeres appear to have taken a blow after it emerged that the Sporting Lisbon striker would prefer a move to Arsenal. After failing in their pursuit of Liam Delap, United turned their attention to Gyokeres, who has earned a reputation as the most feared striker in Portugal after plundering 97 goals in 102 appearances for the reigning Primeira Liga champions. After United held exploratory talks with Gyokeres, the forward has let it be known that he wants to join Arsenal, although it remains to be seen whether the London club push ahead with their bid to sign the 27-year-old. Arsenal are thought to be split on the idea of whether they should sign Gyokeres or Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig. The Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta, is known to be a big fan of Sesko, but he rejected the chance to sign the Slovenia international because Leipzig wanted about £60million for the 22-year-old. United have also submitted an offer for the Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo that would amount to £55million but Tottenham Hotspur could now sign him after Thomas Frank's appointment as Spurs head coach. Gyokeres thrived under Ruben Amorim, now the United manager, during their time together at Sporting but it is understood that the striker wishes to play in the Champions League next season. United will not compete in Europe because of their 15th-place finish in the Premier League and their loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final. Gyokeres has a €100million release clause in his Sporting contract CARLOS RODRIGUES/GETTY IMAGES Gyokeres's valuation has been the subject of much discussion in Lisbon this week. He and his representatives thought he would be allowed to leave for about £60million, even though there is a €100million (about £85million) release clause in his contract. 'I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €70million because I never promised that,' the Sporting president, Frederico Varandas, said. 'To this day Sporting has not had an offer for Gyokeres — neither today nor last season.' Gyokeres has already played in England, having spent three seasons with Coventry City in the Championship after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, before joining Sporting under Amorim. United are in need of a goalscorer after their first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund endured a miserable season, scoring ten goals in 52 matches in all competitions.

Viktor Gyökeres ready to snub Manchester United for ‘dream' Arsenal move

Manchester United's pursuit of Viktor Gyökeres appears doomed after the Sporting striker said signing for Arsenal would be a 'dream'. United held exploratory discussions about buying the 27-year-old, with Ruben Amorim intent on strengthening the position. But it is understood the player's representatives have told United he does not wish to join the club. Instead Gyökeres is understood to view Arsenal as his preferred option since they will play in the Champions League next season. United are in a state of rebuild and will not play in Europe next season after finishing 15th in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final. While they still hope to revive the transfer, it is an outside prospect. Sporting value Gyökeres at about €80m (£68m).
