"Saiyaara" smashes records as the first Hindi song to top Global Billboard Charts

Los Angeles- Bollywood's newest blockbuster— 'Saiyaara' makes history with its title track as the first Hindi song to debut at the Top 10 songs on The Global Excluding United States Billboard charts. The title track which goes by the same name of the movie was composed by Tanishk Bagchi and Arslan Nizami and was sung by Faheem Abdullah. As they react to the shocking global success of this song throughout these past few weeks, he tells fans— 'There is no collaboration with foreign artists; everyone associated with us home-grown (from India itself), so that's a big achievement for me. I did have an intuition that this could go viral, but I never expected it to top global charts.' But whether the song's creators or its listeners fully anticipated the sudden popularity of the song or not, the story of its virality still plays on. After debuting as the first Hindi song to hit the number one spot in Spotify's Global 50 chart, 'Saiyaara' crawled its way to the Global Top 200 charts. Jumping from the 174th position to 4th place in the overall rankings by the beginning of August after a relatively short period of time from the film's initial release, it managed to beat hit songs such as Justin Beiber's Daisies which dominated the global charts after his album's release this month and long-time chart toppers such as APT by Rose and Bruno Mars which need no further introduction at this point. Barely missing the top-spot to songs like 'Ordinary' by Alex Warren, 'Jump' by Blackpink and 'Golden' from the animated movie— K-pop Demon Hunters, this rock-ballad continues to grow viral as more than 4.9 million users around the world continue to stream it to this day. Congratulations to the singers, lyricists and composers are well overdue. Let's hope that this song continues to reach its intended listeners like how this song reaches Aneet Padda in the film.

Blackpink's Comeback Begins: ‘Jump' Debuts on Deadline Tour

By OUR CORRESPONDENT South Korea – 'Blackpink in your area': This tag line sending many K-pop fans wild with excitement. Blackpink is more than a girl group — they're a real movement, a lifestyle, a cultural phenomenon. Since their debut in 2016, the South Korean girl group Blackpink has risen to become one of the top pop exports worldwide — and they are not just traveling the globe as musicians. Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa take on alternating roles as fashion icons, brand ambassadors and influencers, too. Their 'Deadline World Tour,' which will whisk them across the globe on the big stage, has kicked off on July 5. Blackpink made a powerful return to the stage with the debut of their new song 'Jump' — their first fresh track in over two years — during the opening night of the 'Deadline' world tour at the Goyang Sports Complex in Gyeonggi on Saturday. The unreleased song gave fans an exciting glimpse into the group's long-awaited comeback, marking their first major release since the 'Born Pink' album in September 2022. (Excluding the 2023 single 'The Girls' from their mobile game soundtrack.) The Goyang concert launched a massive world tour that will take the quartet to 31 shows across 16 cities worldwide.

Fans celebrate 'Squid Game' finale with Seoul parade

Seoul: Thousands of fans gathered in Seoul on Saturday to celebrate the final "Squid Game" season, ending a global Netflix hit that is seen as a symbol of South Korea's cultural clout. The third and final season was released on Friday, concluding the series that sees desperate people compete in deadly versions of traditional children's games for a massive cash prize. Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said he had "poured everything" into the series, which launched nearly four years ago. "So while it's sentimental to see it end," he said, "there's also a sense of relief". Fans gathered near Seoul's Gyeongbokgung Palace, led by marchers dressed in the bright pink uniforms worn by the show's mysterious masked agents. They were followed by others carrying oversized toys from one of the games featured in the series, along with the show's flag. Park Sang-gyu, a fan who stayed up all night watching the final season, said the dystopian drama was "ultimately a story about people". "As you watch, you realise it's not just about the games — it reflects many aspects of real life." The walls of the Seoul Metropolitan Library were lit up with key scenes, including Young-hee — the giant motion-sensing animatronic doll featured in one of its brutal games. Lee Byung-hun, who played the masked Front Man overseeing the competition, said the show had become "something of a cultural phenomenon". "One that has drawn one of the boldest lines in the history of Korean content," he said. The first two seasons of the series are among Netflix's most-watched shows, and in 2022, Hwang and the show's leading actor, Lee Jung-jae, became the first Asian men to win Emmy Awards. The final season follows its hero Gi-hun, played by Lee, as he returns to the ultra-violent games to dismantle them from within after surviving the first round. Along with film-maker Bong Joon-ho's Oscar-winning 2019 thriller "Parasite" and K-pop sensation BTS, "Squid Game" is considered one of the most powerful examples of South Korea's rise as a global cultural force. — AFP
