The collaboration aims to promote financial inclusion and stimulate economic development by leveraging the UN agency's international postal network and Visa's payments network.
As part of the collaboration, Visa and UPU announced three programs:
• Global Postal Digital Inclusive Finance Program: This program aims to help advance financial inclusion and economic resilience by providing tailored support for post offices that are digitalizing postal financial services. It will cover regions including Africa, Latin America & the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the Arab world.
• Improving Postal Payment Interconnectivity: Enhance the UPU network's cross-border payment capabilities by integrating with Visa's global network.
• Cybersecurity & Risk Advisory Program: This initiative will leverage Visa's cybersecurity and risk credentials to assess and help enhance cybersecurity strategies, the safety and reliability of financial services within the UPU's postal payment system.
Key Areas of Collaboration:
• Digitalizing Postal Financial Services: Enhancing digital services such as international remittances, bill payments, and inbound payments to help meet postal operators' needs at their current stage of digitalization.
• Provision of Government Services through Postal Networks: Facilitating more inclusive access to government services and payments, including disbursements and tax collection, to support national financial inclusion strategies.
• Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Digitalization and Financing: Supporting the economic inclusion of MSMEs, particularly women-owned businesses, through digital solutions like e-marketplaces and mobile-based loan disbursements.
• Cybersecurity and Risk Management: Strengthening cybersecurity measures and risk mitigation tools to help protect the international postal network from potential cyber threats.
The new collaboration builds on the success of the UPU Financial Inclusion Technical Assistance Facility (FITAF), an initiative supported by Visa and the Gates Foundation that helps postal operators in developing countries provide financial services to local communities.
Rajiv Garodia, Head of Visa Government Solutions, said: "Visa is committed to using our global network and innovative technology to help empower governments and drive financial inclusion globally. The UPU is a perfect collaborator for us in this respect as it plays a significant role in providing financial services to 1.5 billion people worldwide'.
Siva Somasundram, Director of Policy, Regulation, and Markets at the UPU, said: At the UPU, we strive to foster international collaborations to drive the improvement of financial services, digital transformation, financial inclusion, innovation, and knowledge sharing within our postal network. Our goal is to diversify digital postal financial products and solutions to ensure that every community – no matter how remote – has access to relevant, reliable, and efficient services.
Promoting public-private partnerships, like the one with Visa, is a priority for the UPU in delivering sustainable and scalable digital solutions that meet the needs of underserved postal customers – helping them access digital payments, digital savings, credit, and inclusive insurance, while supporting national financial inclusion goals.'

Alejandro Garnacho transfer odds: Chelsea and Tottenham in mix for Man Utd star

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO is on his way out of Manchester United after being told to find a new club. And despite Chelsea and Tottenham being in the mix for the winger, it's looking like a move abroad is most likely, according to the bookmaker odds. Reports have claimed United boss Ruben Amorim axed the Argentine in a brutal public dressing down in front of his teammates. Garnacho was unhappy with Amorim's decision to leave him out of the Europa League final that saw Man Utd losing to Spurs. He then slammed the Red Devils' "s*** season" before his brother lashed out on social media by claiming the club "threw him under the bus." Following that, it later emerged that Garnacho and Amorim's relationship had completely broken down. But he was used from the start in the club's second game in their post-season trip against Hong Kong, after seemingly being involved in a fan altercation. And United would demand around £60million to let the Argentine leave, reports claimed. It looks like his time at Old Trafford - and potentially in English football - is over, with a move abroad looking most likely. Napoli are the warm favourites to sign Garnacho and are priced at Evens with bet365. The Serie A champions have been linked with several big money moves as they look to defend their title and make a splash in the Champions League. Atletico Madrid are joined by Chelsea at 6/1, with the latter already strongly linked with Garnacho back in January. Staying at United is a bigger price still at 8/1, despite still having three years left on his current deal. Milan at 10/1 are just ahead of 12/1 Spurs, who are also looking to strengthen to compete better in the league whilst also making a go of things in the Champions League. Leverkusen and Aston Villa are both 14/1. UK car production falls to its lowest level in 73 years (if you don't count lockdown)

Business SMMT figures show historical low for making cars in Blighty Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading How's business? Last month spelled some pretty rubbish news for UK vehicle production, with April's numbers flagging by a chunky 15.8 per cent. That's the lowest level since 1952, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures – at least if you don't count lockdown. And why would you? That first pandemic measure pretty much entirely halted production. These – believe it or not – are more usual times, and yet 59,203 units (down from 70,319 in 2024) does not a pretty penny make. 'Government has recognised automotive manufacturing's critical role in driving the UK economy, having successfully negotiated improved trading conditions for the sector with the US, EU and India in the space of a month. Fiorentina manager sees contract terminated three weeks after signing extension

Fiorentina have terminated the contract of manager Raffaele Palladino by 'mutual consent', just three weeks after he had signed an extension with the Serie A club. Palladino, 41, was appointed last June on a two-year deal with an option of an extra year. Fiorentina announced the extension until 2027 on May 7, the eve of the club's Conference League semi-final second leg with Real Betis. Fiorentina were knocked out of the competition by the Spanish club, having reached the last two Conference League finals, and then lost to Venezia in their next league game to leave them ninth in the Serie A standings. Two wins in their final two matches earned Fiorentina a sixth-place finish, qualifying for the Conference League, but despite leading Fiorentina to their best league position since 2016, Palladino's style has failed to win over the fans. "Fiorentina can confirm that Raffaele Palladino's contract, as well as those of his backroom team, has today been terminated by mutual consent," the club said in a statement. Palladino spent time at Juventus as a player during the mid-2000s and became a manager in 2022, having only taken charge of Monza before arriving in Florence. Without a trophy since 2001 and after losing three finals in the previous two campaigns, Fiorentina supporters are losing patience with owner Rocco Commisso who bought the club in 2019.
