Pandrol supports UNESCO World Engineering Day 2025 campaign
London, UK - Apr 4, 2025 - WED is jointly operated by UNESCO and the World Federation for Engineering Organizations (WFEO), which spans some 100 countries and represents more than 30 million engineers. It is an International Day proclaimed by the UNESCO General Conference and open to everyone.
The launch in March marks the start of a year-long campaign of events, films and related articles and news, highlighting the achievements of engineers and engineering around the world, and promoting engineering as a career.
Produced by the SJH Group – the official media partner and broadcaster for WED – all campaign content, which includes a multimedia hub dedicated to Pandrol, is hosted on the WED website at www.worldengineeringday.net.
As an official partner, Pandrol's insights and expertise will form an integral part of the 12-month campaign, which provides a springboard for governments, UN-associated organisations, policymakers, educators and leaders in the public and private sectors to raise awareness of the importance of engineering.
The WED campaign has an estimated global reach of more than 100 million individuals, and this year's theme of 'Shaping our sustainable future through engineering' focuses on the essential role that engineering has to play in achieving the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The current plan, developed for 2021 to 2025, has served as a foundational roadmap, and while its core pillars remain relevant, the board of directors says it is now prioritizing a shift that reflects the evolving needs of the tourism industry, stakeholders and the city of Lethbridge. The board says the new plan will continue to focus on organizational sustainability, driving economic growth, stakeholder and partner engagement, along with brand and destination development. The plan will include a fifth pillar for advocacy and influence. 'We're looking at (whether) people's habits changed with more staycations versus longer travel trips, so some of those things need to be changed, but we're also seeing some amazing facilities and assets right in our city that really need to be told far and wide and let people know that yes, we're a hub and there's so many great UNESCO sites out there, but there's also fantastic facilities and fantastic events that are happening right here,' said Greg Robinson, Tourism Lethbridge board chairperson. Tourism Lethbridge hopes to have the new strategic plan finalized and ready for implementation in 2026.

China's Xixia Imperial Tombs inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site China's Xixia Imperial Tombs were inscribed on the World Heritage List on Friday during UNESCO's 47th session of the World Heritage Committee, held in Paris, France. With this addition, the total number of World Heritage sites in China has reached 60. Xixia Imperial Tombs is a group of imperial burial sites from the Xixia Dynasty (Western Xia, 1038-1227), founded by the Tangut people in northwestern China during the 11th to 13th centuries. Covering an area of nearly 40 square km, the site comprises four types of architectural remains: 9 imperial mausoleums, 271 subordinate tombs, a northern architectural complex covering 0.05 square km, and 32 flood control works.
