Delhi: MCD holds 120 property-tax camps to promote compliance under SUNIYO amnesty scheme
According to a statement issued by the
Municipal Corporation of Delhi
(MCD), the initiative aims at helping property owners file their taxes and take advantage of the ongoing Property Tax Amnesty Scheme 2025-26 --
Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana
(SUNIYO).
The MCD said the camps witnessed active participation from residents, reflecting a growing interest in the scheme. Encouraged by the response, the civic body plans to hold more such camps in the coming days to ensure wider outreach and participation, it stated.
Under SUNIYO, property owners can get a full waiver on tax dues, including interest and penalties, pending till the financial year 2019-20, the statement said.
It added that to qualify, taxpayers must pay the principal amount for the current financial year (2025-26) and the previous five years -- from 2020-21 to 2024-25 -- without any interest or penalty.
For further assistance, the MCD has set up a dedicated helpline number to address queries and guide citizens through the process, according to the statement.
The civic body has appealed to all eligible property owners to make the most of the scheme and clear their outstanding dues without additional financial burden.

Delhi may soon get a unified application process and a single office with all departments under one roof for issuing licences to businesses, a move which will streamline business processes and improve 'ease of doing business' in the Capital, officials said on Saturday. The meeting comes in the wake of the Centre's directive urging states and union territories to expedite licensing reforms, officials said. The discussion focused on overhauling Delhi's complex licensing ecosystem with challenges such as fragmented databases, multiple authorities and burdensome fee structures that have long been a barrier to investment and a source of harassment for applicants. 'Initiatives like reducing the role of Delhi Police in granting licences in various categories, deemed permission by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for factory licence, authority of the revenue department for cinema hall licences, 24X7 opening of shops and establishments and allowing women to work in night shifts, would go a long way in creating a business friendly environment in the national capital,' said Saxena. Key measures on the table included empanelment of third-party auditors for fire safety clearances, simplification of regulatory processes and introduction of a common application form for clearances across departments. Officials also proposed linking data systems of departments like MCD, New Delhi Municipal Council, labour, GST, DPCC and FSSAI to reduce duplication and streamline governance. Officials also discussed developing a unified portal for all licences by taking data of Shop and Establishment Act as base data, officials said. 'This portal encompassing all licences will significantly reduce red tape. Discussions also included rationalising MCD zones to align with revenue districts and requiring local departmental officers to report directly to district magistrates,' an official said. One of the most striking reforms under consideration is the adoption of the 'Tripura model' of self-certification for small industries with investment up to ₹2 crore, and third-party certification for larger enterprises. The city is also looking at extending 24x7 operational permissions for shops and establishments, officials said. Gupta called on officials to fast-track the reforms, emphasising that multiple licensing authorities were a source of unnecessary public hardship. She also asked the chief secretary to explore creation of unified office complexes in each district to co-locate all relevant government departments for public convenience. 'The reforms being carried out under the Prime Minister's guidance will firmly position Delhi as a prime investment destination,' said Gupta, while the LG praised the Delhi government's initiatives to curtail outdated procedures and bring governance closer to the people.

Chandigarh: AAP Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Kumar Mittal on Saturday tabled a resolution in the House to designate Pakistan as a 'state sponsor of terrorism'. The resolution was introduced as part of a parliamentary intervention during the ongoing monsoon session. In a press statement, Mittal said he recounted Pakistan's decades-long policy of using terrorism as a tool of foreign policy. Citing documented instances from the 1947 invasion of Jammu & Kashmir to the recent Pahalgam terror attack, the resolution called for sweeping measures, including diplomatic isolation, economic sanctions, and a review of bilateral agreements like the Indus Water Treaty. The resolution further underscored Pakistan's direct role in key terror incidents that shook India, such as the 2001 Parliament attack, 26/11 Mumbai attacks, 2016 Uri attack, and the 2019 Pulwama bombing, while also pointing to its global footprint in events like the 9/11 attacks and the 2015 Paris carnage. The resolution urged the govt of India to introduce legislation designating Pakistan as a state sponsor of terrorism and enforce a complete freeze on economic and trade relations. Delhi govt aims to simplify licensing, create unified portal to boost business environment

Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Labour Minister Kapil Mishra, the Chief Secretary, Chairman NDMC, Commissioner MCD and heads of departments concerned with environment, trade, taxes, and licensing also attended the meeting. It was highlighted that the existing system, marked by fragmented databases, multiple licensing authorities and complicated fee structures, often results in harassment of applicants, corruption, and loss of Cabinet Secretariat, following a recent review chaired by the Prime Minister, had asked the Delhi LG to undertake specific short-term reforms to ease compliance and governance. Among the major issues discussed were empanelment of third-party auditors for fire clearances, creation of a common application form for No Objection Certificates (NOCs), extension of third-party certification for building plan approvals, and linking databases of agencies such as MCD, NDMC, DPCC, FSSAI, GST, and Labour government is also exploring the adoption of Tripura's self-certification model for industries with investments up to Rs 2 crore, and third-party audit for larger ones. It was also proposed to align MCD zones with revenue districts and bring local offices of departments such as health, education and PWD under the coordination of district AR Department has been tasked with developing a standardised inspection format for district-level review of services like roads, drains, hospitals and schools. The reforms are aimed at transforming Delhi into a preferred investment destination by fostering a transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly business environment.
