Why Rosé Loves These Low-Key Sneakers

Yahoo19-05-2025
Where Rosé goes, Seoul follows. This past weekend, the solo artist and Blackpink member partnered with Puma to celebrate the latest version of the iconic H-Street sneaker ahead of its June release. To celebrate, the brand kicked things off with a pop-up experience. Fans gathered in crowds outside the venue Layer 41, craning their necks to catch a mere glimpse of the K-pop sensation. The fanfare didn't stop there—other all-star guests included Itsy's Yeji and Squid Game's Yuri Jo.
Inside, Rosé toured the immersive installations alongside press and select VIP guests, learning about the history of Puma's sneakers while decked out in her own neon green H-Street pair. 'I think of comfort the most when I head out,' the global ambassador tells ELLE. 'Being able to look cute and comfy all at the same time, whether at rehearsals or in the studio, [working with Puma] has been really rewarding.' For the singer, ease has always been key to her personal style as a performer. As she explains, 'At the very beginning, I didn't understand what made me feel comfortable and what didn't. Now just knowing that, and no matter what other people say, as long as I feel comfortable that's all that matters.'
When asked what drew the brand to Rosé and to Seoul, Gregor Abenstein, head of Puma Select, says, 'We very much look to Seoul when we want to see what's next. When we kicked off the Speedcat [sneaker], Seoul was also the first city where we saw the shoes on the feet of the right people. Our Korean team basically gave us the heads up that low profile might be coming back.'
Abenstein also explained that they wanted the immersive experience to feel authentic to the venue's neighborhood and the city's style. 'We relied heavily on our partners and the communities that they acquired to help lead us to the heart of the city. From the food that's been chosen, down to the DJs and the nail artists, it has been specifically curated to be part of our cultural community.'
As a result, the event tapped vendors including Cold Archive and Inside Tag to curate an installation of interactive art zones. Featuring everything from custom screen-printed T-shirts emblazoned with '___ Sucks' to alien-like nail art, each station complemented the display of archival Puma products. On the main floor, guests were able to walk through the history of the brand, tracing its very first pair of track spikes to the H-Street sneaker's inception in 2003.
The Puma H-Street sneakers, including the event's signature neon green colorway, as sported by Rosé, will be available for purchase in late June.

Hint of Mini Labubu Launch Sends Pop Mart Stock Soaring 12%

The Chinese retailer Pop Mart's stock surged more than 12 percent on Wednesday, to the highest level since the company went public in 2020, after its chief executive, Wang Ning, said a mini version of its wildly popular Labubu dolls would be released as soon as this week. The toothy elves have become coveted accessories around the world, spotted dangling off designer handbags worth thousands of dollars and collected by the likes of Rihanna, Dua Lipa and Lisa, a member of the K-pop group Blackpink. The mini version will be able to be hung on mobile phones, Mr. Wang told investors on an earnings call. Previous new releases have sold out within minutes, crashed the company's website and app, and sparked hourslong lines outside of stores. Most of Pop Mart's revenue comes from China. But during the first six months of this year, revenue from the Americas jumped 1,142 percent from the previous year as Labubu enthusiasm took off around the world, the company reported on Tuesday. Sales in Asia outside of China were up 258 percent and from Europe and other regions, 729 percent. Source: FactSet By The New York Times The global craze for Labubus drove record revenue for Pop Mart during the first six months of the year, up more than 200 percent when measured in Chinese renminbi. Labubus accounted for more than a third of Pop Mart's total revenue over this period. Pop Mart's stock, which is traded in Hong Kong, has risen more than 650 percent over the past year. In China, the dolls have been praised as an example of how a local product can go viral worldwide. People's Daily, the official mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, described the phenomenon as 'a benchmark for China's pop culture making inroads overseas.' Onstage in London over the weekend, Lisa, who told Vanity Fair that Pop Mart toys were her 'secret obsession,' wore a custom hot pink Labubu during Blackpink's Deadline Tour. The doll's popularity has spawned a thriving resale market and a universe of knock offs, known as 'Lafufus,' that are almost as sought after as the real things. Consumer protection agencies in the United States and Britain recently issued urgent safety warnings that said the fakes could break into pieces and presented choking hazards to children. Pop Mart has also popularized another Chinese trend by releasing some Labubus in 'blind boxes,' so that buyers don't know which doll is inside. The company said it plans to open about three new stores per week for the rest of the year, and expects to top 60 stores in the United States.

Calvin Klein is going all in on K-pop hot boy summer with Seventeen member Mingyu

Seventeen's Mingyu is the face of Calvin Klein's Fall 2025 collection. He turned up the heat with promo videos wearing denim fits and repping the brand's iconic waistband. International sales matter to the brand. In 2024, they accounted for about 70% of its total sales. Calvin Klein is doubling down on K-pop, with a campaign starring K-pop star Mingyu of boy band Seventeen. The 28-year-old South Korean rapper and singer is the face of Calvin Klein's Fall 2025 collection. He was spotted modeling several denim outfits in the brand's promotional videos, which were released on Tuesday. In the videos, Mingyu, surrounded by large black speakers and dramatic lighting, showed off Calvin Klein's new pieces, such as its 90s Straight Jeans, and a monogrammed denim top and pants combo. Of course, like most Calvin Klein advertisements, there were shots dedicated to the star shirtless, showing off the iconic waistband of the brand's underwear. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Calvin Klein (@calvinklein) The two videos have racked up millions of views. As of press time, the first video had been viewed more than 1.9 million times, while the second had been viewed over 3.1 million times. Seventeen is a cultural behemoth in Asia and beyond, with a following of 16.2 million on Instagram and its songs amassing millions of streams on Spotify. And its members are getting recognized globally. Seventeen's leader, was the first member of the band to attend the Met Gala. He walked his red carpet debut this year in a Hugo Boss ensemble, a brand for which he is an ambassador. Calvin Klein's collaboration with Mingyu is not its first foray into K-pop. It previously hired stars like BTS's Jungkook, Blackpink's Jennie, and several members of NewJeans. Mingyu, too, has been a Calvin Klein mainstay. He appeared in two of the brand's previous campaigns — Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. Calvin Klein is crucial to keeping international customers happy. According to an earnings report by its parent company, PVH Corp, about 69% of its total sales in 2024, or about $2.48 billion, came from its international business. Calvin Klein's North America sales in 2024 totaled $1.12 billion. The brand's partnership with Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny was another international collaboration that paid off hugely. Calvin Klein's video of Bad Bunny's, in which he wears the brand's cotton stretch underwear and dances to the tune of his song EoO, has been viewed 32.6 million times as of press time.
