India Women slumped to an 18-run loss against ECB Women's Development XI in a 50-over warm-up fixture at The County Ground, Beckenham here on Tuesday.
After opting to bowl, India was put under pressure by the assured 196-run opening stand between Emma Lamb and Maia Bouchier. N. Sree Charani broke the partnership, dismissing Lamb in the 29th over. Bouchier, who made a sprightly 84-ball 104, retired from play.

While skipper Hollie Armitage was dismissed courtesy a hit wicket off Charani's bowling, the English middle order came together to brave India's bowling attack. Alice Davidson-Richards (42 off 49 balls), and 34-run knocks from Paige Scholfield and Danni Wyatt Hodge helped England put up a score of 353 for the loss of five wickets. Charani, who made her ODI debut in April this year, was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to her name.
India's chase did not get off to the best start with Mahika Gaur dismissing Smriti Mandhana for a solitary run. Shafali Verma, who has found herself out of reckoning for the One-Day squad, surprisingly featured in this fixture and was sent in to open. However, any chance of making this a statement fixture vanished when she was dismissed by Ryana MacDonald-Gay for a 13-ball 16.

Key contributions from Yastika Bhatia (45-ball 32), Amanjot Kaur (32-ball 43) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur who scored a fluent fifty (47-ball 54) to get India close. However, India's age-old issues with its tail came back to hurt its chances, with the side falling short by 18 runs.
The warm-up is one of two preparatory games slotted for the visitors ahead of the white ball tour of England which features five T20Is and three ODIs.

Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal Dances In Front Of English Crowd After Dropping 4 Catches

Last Updated: Yashasvi Jaiswal had a mixed outing in his first Test on English soil that saw him drop as many as four catches after scoring a century. Yashasvi Jaiswal may have enjoyed adulation during his debut Test innings on English soil having scored a brilliant century but by the end of the contest, the fans turned on him. Jaiswal scored 101 off 159 after India were put in to bat first in the first Test at Headingley that concluded with their five-wicket defeat to England on Tuesday. While India's batting collapses and listless bowling took the brunt of crticisim, their fielding also came under severe scrutiny. Through the course of the five days, India dropped as many as eight catches that allowed England to limit the first innings deficit to just six runs and left a toiling Jasprit Bumrah frustrated. It was Bumrah's brilliance that despite the lack of support from his fielding unit, he managed to take a five-for in England's first dig. Four of these catches were dropped by Jaiswal who had a nightmare on the field. While he was facing the heat from fans for his poor catching, the ended irking them even further after dancing for the English crowd even as India were hurtling towards a record defeat on Day 5. And fans took to social media to vent their ire. India became the first team in Test history to lose a match despite hitting five centuries – two from Rishabh Pant and on each from KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Jaiswal. The Gill-led side thus began their campaign in the latest ICC World Test Championship cycle with a defeat. The tourists now have a week to recover from the loss and plot their comeback at Edgbaston – the venue of the second Test. First Published: June 25, 2025, 08:32 IST

Olympique Lyon, 7-time French champions, relegated due to financial irregularities

Seven time French champions Olympique Lyon have been relegated from Ligue 1, French football's financial watchdog (DNCG) said on Tuesday, Juune 24, following an audit of the club. Lyon were provisionally demoted by the DNCG in November due to the poor state of their finances and the decision was confirmed on Tuesday after a meeting between club owner John Textor and the club has said that it would appeal the decision immediately. Speaking via a statement, the club criticised the decision and said it had worked closely with the DNCG, satisfying all their requests."Olympique Lyonnais takes note of the incomprehensible decision handed down by the DNCG this evening and confirms that it will appeal immediately," the club said. "With demonstrated funds and sporting success that has earned us a place in European competition two years running, we sincerely fail to understand how an administrative decision could relegate such a great French club." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Fabrizio Romano (@fabriziorom)The decision to relegate Lyon comes a day after US businessman Textor sold a 43% stake in English club Crystal to the equity contributions from our shareholders and the sale of Crystal Palace, our cash position has improved considerably and we have more than sufficient resources for the 2025/26 season," the Lyon statement October, Eagle Football Group, led by John Textor, disclosed debts amounting to approximately 422 million ($574.85 million), raising serious concerns about the financial stability of Olympique then, the club has sought to improve its financial standing by selling several players, including Maxence Caqueret to Como and Rayan Cherki to Manchester City. Despite these efforts, Lyon has so far failed to convince the relevant authorities that its financial health has recovered enough to lift existing of the official ruling, the 59-year-old Textor expressed optimism about the club's finances.'You can see from our shareholders' contributions that we've injected new capital—not only to satisfy the DNCG, but also to meet UEFA licensing requirements. And with the recent sale of Crystal Palace, our liquidity has significantly improved,' he told reporters on who won seven consecutive Ligue 1 titles between 2002 and 2008, secured a Europa League berth for next season after finishing sixth in the league. However, if the decision to uphold sanctions remains in place, Stade de Reims—relegated after a playoff defeat to Metz—could take Lyon's place in Ligue 1 next of now, neither Reims nor the French football governing body (LFP) has issued an official comment.- Ends

Mohammed Siraj fumes at Yashasvi Jaiswal after costly drop hampers India's chances against England

Mohammed Siraj fumes as Yashasvi Jaiswal drops Ben Duckett. New Delhi: India had a frustrating last day in the first Test when Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett comfortably chased down a huge target of 371 in a record-breaking stand of 238 to leave Shubman Gill side languishing on the verge of defeat despite five Indian batters recording centuries previously in the game. Ben Duckett made a fluent century on only 121 balls, the first century in the fourth innings of a Test match by an England opener since Alastair Cook made 109 not out against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2010. There were not too many opportunities but there was one in the 39 th over when Duckett top-edged a short ball by Mohmmad Siraj, yet Duckett got away with it thanks to a well-judged drop by Yashasvi Jaiswal, who charged in deep backward square leg. Unwanted record for Jaiswal Some reports claimed that it was the fourth drop of the game by Jaiswal, the highest by any Indian in a test. It was a costly miscalculation that nobody noticed, Mohammed Siraj was very angry and he found it difficult to hide his disappointment. The message was communicated clearly by Gautam Gambhir sitting grim faced in the dressing room and not surprising the mood in the Indian camp. Heartbreaking moment 💔 Ben Duckett was on 99 when Yashasvi Jaiswal dropped a catch off Mohammed Siraj's delivery. Missed a golden chance to stop the century — bhaskar kalita (@Bhaskarkalita77) June 24, 2025 The second session of the opening Test between India and England on Tuesday was disturbed by rain with the home side coasting at 181 without loss in their pursuit of 371. England now has 190 more runs to win with Ben Duckett (105 not-out) and Zak Crawley (59 not-out) having dug a firm platform against a weakening Indian bowling attack. That was a big break when Yashasvi Jaiswal put him down on 98 and the powerful forward dive could not hold on to the catch as the England opener miscued a short ball that was bowled by Mohammed Siraj. This missed opportunity turned out to be a very expensive one because Duckett proceeded to put India to the point. In the first session, earlier Zak Crawley was given a reprieve when Jasprit Bumrah failed to hang into a sniper of a return catch off his own bowling, and missed a difficult but vital opportunity as he followed through.
