Rulani drops cryptic comments amid Orlando Pirates links

Former Sundowns boss Rulani Mokwena hasn't hidden his admiration for Orlando Pirates football club as an institution.
Mokwena's future is unclear after the 38-year-old left Wydad AC in Morocco.
Pirates are candidates to hire Mokwena after Jose Riveiro left the Sea Robbers.
Rulani Mokwena has ruled himself out of the running for the Zamalek job after hearing Pitso Mosimane was also a candidate. Meanwhile, the 38-year-old continues to be linked with the vacant Orlando Pirates job.
'I didn't hear from them (Zamalek) after I had said I heard that coach Pitso was also in the running for this position,' Mokwena told SuperSport's Africa Soccer show.
'My relationship and my respect for him would not allow me to compete for the same coaching job with Coach Pitso. It just wouldn't sit well with me, so I pulled out. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.'
'Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, 'But this is a big club', and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn't allow me to do that.'
Percy Tau would consider a move to Kaizer Chiefs if they stumped up a salary package meeting his demands. You can check out his full interview with Robert Marawa below. Tau would be satisfied by R450,000 a month and a two-year deal.

Under fire Pirates coach Ouaddou defends goalless Radiopane

'This kind of player, it's easy for a coach, he has a fantastic mentality," said Ouaddou. Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has once again come out in defence of his inefficient striker Boitumelo Radiopane. Radiopane, who has started upfront for Pirates in three of their four opening matches this season, is yet to open his goalscoring account. ALSO READ: Ouaddou hails Pirates after come back draw against Sundowns On Saturday, he started from the bench during the 1-1 MTN8 semi-final first leg draw against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Orlando Stadium. Ouaddou has come under criticism from the Pirates fans for starting games with Radiopane ahead of the last season's top goalscorer, Tshegofatso Mabasa, and Evidence Makgopa who made his first start in the game against Sundowns. Ouaddou on why he prefers Radiopane The Moroccan coach has explained why he is preferring the young striker ahead of Mabasa and Makgopa. 'This kind of player, it's easy for a coach, he has a fantastic mentality. He is well educated as a player, as a man, he is respectful. He is a worker, so I'm lucky to have such players to train,' said Ouaddou. 'He's a professional. It means when we call him for duty, he doesn't have any problem. He doesn't mind sitting on the bench and then comes on to give everything. I gave him 10 minutes [against Sundowns], and I said, 'son you have to score your goal'. And he nearly scored, he gave everything. 'This is the mentality a coach is looking for from his players and all my players, I'm really lucky with all the players I have at Pirates, they have fantastic mentality, it's one of the first dressing rooms I have seen such a great mentality of the players.' Cardoso on Sundowns' second half performance Meanwhile, Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso says poor decision making in the second half cost them the win against Pirates on Saturday. This comes after the Brazilians let their first half lead slip to draw 1-1with Pirates in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final in Orlando. 'I predicted beforehand that this match would be a match of different moments,' said Cardoso. 'When you have two strong teams playing for such an important trophy, despite we are still only in the semifinal, and both wanting to go to the final, then it's obvious that you can have different moments to manage throughout the match. ALSO READ: Sundowns' Cardoso blames 'brainwork' for draw against Pirates 'I think we started the second half quite well, but then as time went by, we started losing the capacity to have all this brainwork, to think the right things and the emotions grew inside the pitch, and because of that, we had difficulty to cope with Pirates in the last 10 minutes.'

Barker lauds Stellies' MTN8 win over Sekhukhune

'But also not to concede an away goal. We were a little bit unlucky in the second half when we hit the crossbar, but we handled them well. I don't think we gave them opportunities, especially in the second half. [I am] very proud of top performances from every single player, and anyone who came on added value to the team.' Barker was especially pleased with the performance of Lesiba Nku, who provided assists for the two goals and feels he is now settling in well at the club after joining them from Mamelodi Sundowns in January. '[I'm] happy with what Lesiba has done. He has been unlucky not to start more matches,' he said. 'It was a late call to start with him when we saw the rain overnight and during the day, and [when we] saw the pitch, we decided to go with the three men in the pitch, including him, with Ibraheem Jabaar coming in. 'Lesiba got his opportunity, and just before he went [on] I reminded him that he is a star and quality player and he does certain things of a higher level.' Stellies will look to build on that performance when they visit Orlando Pirates in a Betway Premiership match at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

No Basadien, no problem, says Stever Barker after Omega Mdaka shines for Stellenbosch FC

Stellenbosch FC's Omega Mdaka has seamlessly filled the gaping Fawaaz Basadien hole with aplomb down the left touchline. Picture: BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix AFTER a transfer season that saw another round of headline departures with Sihle Nduli and Fawaaz Basadien, the spine of Stellenbosch FC last season, departing for Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns respectively, the mood surrounding the Winelands club was a muted one heading into the new campaign. Supporters were becoming increasingly frustrated at chief executive Rob Benadie, owing to a perceived lack of ambition, especially after the team had finished third for the second consecutive season in the Betway Premiership and achieved a historic Caf Confederation Cup semifinal place at its first attempt. But yet here we are again, and Stellies have one foot in the MTN8 final - what would also be for the second successive season - after downing Eric Tinkler's Sekhukhune United 2-0 in the first-leg semifinal at the Danie Craven Stadium on Saturday evening. It was not just the emphatic nature of the performance that confounded the critics, but rather the way previous fringe players have stepped up to fill the breach left by the departing stars. Next Stay Close ✕ None more so than 20-year-old left back Omega Mdaka. The Kaizer Chiefs Academy graduate has seamlessly filled the gaping Basadien hole with aplomb down the left touchline. Mdaka was highly impressive on the opening day of the season against his former club at Athlone Stadium before his inexperience showed in giving away a last-minute penalty when he brought down Ashley du Preez. But the youngster bounced back from that disappointment with an assured display against Sekhukhune United to claim the Player of the Match award. Barker believes Mdaka's performances have not come by chance with Stellenbosch's famed succession plan having been put in place a season ago already. 'I do think you do recognise certain players like Fawaaz that there would be interest. There was interest not only locally but also from North Africa and hence a season ago, Omega got signed and brought into the squad and he had to bide his time,' Barker said. 'He didn't play many minutes last season but training every day with the team, you know, getting his fair share here and there of minutes when Fawaaz was maybe injured or needed to be rested. 'I think it's now his time to come and I think that's maybe what we do well is anticipate what may happen going forward and then in the meantime start grooming the next player or two to then be the next one to step up. 'So, again, just happy for Omega and he's really putting his hand up and doing well.'
