What rivalry? Orlando Pirates gift Kaizer Chiefs two stars!
Orlando Pirates have decided to release Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane after several years of service. The former has, according to SABC Sport, entered the final stages with Kaizer Chiefs, while Monyane is another player said to have been offered to Nasreddine Nabi. Jose Riverio's departure has yet to be resolved as Orlando Pirates continue to vet candidates, including former Mamelodi Sundowns managers Pisto Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena, who are both being simultaneously monitored by Egyptian giants Zamalek FC. Mokwena wants to stay clear of competing against his former mentor for a job, suggesting he be reluctant on the Buccaneers posting as well. 'I didn't hear from them (Zamalek) after I had said I heard that coach Pitso was also in the running for this position,' Mokwena told SuperSport's Africa Soccer show. 'My relationship and my respect for him would not allow me to compete for the same coaching job with coach Pitso.' 'It just wouldn't sit well with me, so I pulled out. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.' 'Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, 'But this is a big club', and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn't allow me to do that.' Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates' chances of signing Fiston Mayele just got harder; the Congolese international is attracting lucrative bids. 'Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season. The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue,' a source revealed. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Shock Twist: Orlando Pirates get word on Mokwena & Mosimane!
Orlando Pirates have yet to confirm their coach for next season following the departure of Spaniard Jose Riveiro, who achieved five domestic cups during his three-year tenure. Several names are rumoured to be on the Buccaneers shortlist, including former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena. The PSL winner is a free agent after being dismissed by Wydad Athletic at the end of the season. However, it isn't only Orlando Pirates who are reportedly monitoring Mokwena – Egyptian giants Zamalek are too in the conversation. Like Pirates, the recent Egyptian Cup winners are interested in Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane; however, the former doesn't want to compete with his former colleague. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.' 'Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, 'But this is a big club', and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn't allow me to do that.' Orlando Pirates target Fiston Mayele will leave Pyramids this offseason, the only uncertainty remains as to who he will join. According to reports, the prolific striker has several suitors interested. 'Mayele's career with Pyramids FC will end at the end of the current season. The player will leave after the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the Egypt Cup final.' 'Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season. The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue.' 'Pyramids Club, in appreciation of the player and the fact that he is the top scorer in the African Champions League and was one of the reasons the team won the championship,' Egyptian publication Al-Masry Al-Youm revealed. Orlando Pirates news: Mokwena, Mosimane, Saleng, Hotto, Mako
Orlando Pirates remain on their quest to find Jose Riveiro's successor, a manager with whom they enjoyed three triumphant years, winning five domestic cups. Former Mamelodi Sundowns managers Rulani Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane are said to be on their radar, however the club faces competition from Egyptian giants Zamalek FC over both PSL winners. However, neither clubs may get their hands on Mokwena, who is reluctant to compete against his mentor for jobs. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.' 'Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, 'But this is a big club', and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn't allow me to do that.' Orlando Pirates have already confirmed that they will release left-back Paseko Mako, who is reportedly close to signing with bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs. Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers have reportedly offered Hotto a contract extension; however, question marks surround the future of Monnapule Saleng. The former, whose contract expires at the end of this month, is on the brink of free agency, however the Buccaneers are yet to confirm whether they will let him go. Meanwhile, a Saleng sale seems all but confirmed following his six month hiatus over salary demands the club where unwilling to meet. The 27-year-old has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs having reportedly signed a pre-contract, however, this is yet to be confirmed. Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates: Teko prays for Amakhosi
Will Kaizer Chiefs end a decade of pain and tears? Will Orlando Pirates make history with three Nedbank Cup titles on the trot? 'We need them [Chiefs] to win a trophy this season. First of all, the reason I said what I said at the beginning of the [year], that it is an opportunity for Chiefs to win the trophy is because, at some point, something has to give,' Modise said at the press conference. 'And being a club that has so much history with so many fans within the country itself crying out about the same thing, 'trophy, trophy'. You look at all your arch-rivals, they are winning trophies, at some point, something is gonna give. 'You look at Kaizer Chiefs, things are not good and this might be the trophy that turns the things around. At Mamelodi Sundowns, we were that team before coach Pitso [Mosimane] came, signing players, trying with nothing coming out,' Modise continued as quoted by FARPost . 'We came back, we started winning and it became the culture and this is an opportunity for Kaizer Chiefs to do so. But yet again, you are playing an Orlando Pirates team who are very, very difficult. They have got so much confidence going into any game, believing that they gonna win. 'I think that's an advantage [for Pirates], going into such games,' Modise concluded. ‘Pitso would do a great job at Orlando Pirates'
Orlando Pirates supporters are edging closer towards confirming the club's next coach to replace the departing Jose Riveiro. While the club has confirmed Riveiro will be gone by July, the Soweto giants have kept mum on the anticipated replacement. According to the former SuperSport United midfielder Denis Masina, Mosimane can do the job for Orlando Pirates next season. ''If coach Pitso is willing to coach Pirates, then I would say he is the right one for the job. He has been there and done that. For me, I know coach Pitso can coach Pirates and can do a great job,' Masina told Kick Off . 'I know him very well and I know what he is capable of doing with a team and his players. In the meantime, Orlando Pirates' former coach Rulani Mokwena is linked with a sensational return to the Sea Robbers. Mokwena is available after leaving Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca last week.
