‘Stolen not saved': Barbs fly in fight over sale of the Gaso
But the landlord has dismissed James Martelletti's claims as rubbish and said issues only rose when Martelletti requested changes to the lease.
Earlier this week The Age revealed chef and restaurateur Scott Pickett bought the leasehold of 'the Gaso' at the corner of Smith Street and Alexandra Parade after it closed down.
Pickett said he would continue to operate the pub as a live music venue, scotching fears it would be turned into a gastro pub or apartments.
However, Martelletti – the pub's former lessee who operated the Gasometer until it closed in March – has blasted the landlord over the sale of the lease to Pickett.
'Probably a little easier to establish a business when you start by stiffing the previous owners out of around $250k,' he posted on Instagram on Wednesday night on The Gasometer's Instagram account, which he still has control of.

'Landlords being greedy landlords they decided to refuse our perfectly reasonable offer for another party to take over the business with the name and other business assets which lead to us losing the sale price, paying for liquidation and having to make our staff redundant,' he wrote. 'This is no longer the Gaso, this is a cheap shady imitation who have decided to shit on its legacy instead of support it. Stolen not saved.'
Martelletti said he did not own any trademarks around the Gasometer, just the trading name the Gasometer Hotel, and said he likely had no legal recourse but wanted to 'shame them for attempting to steal our goodwill off us with zero compensation'.

Zufi Abdul's Cannoli Boss page was shut down on July 11 when the 18-year-old Sydney student was accused of breaching guidelines relating to child abuse and nudity. Interestingly TikTok had no issue with the same clip, which you can view below, when it was cross-posted to that platform. Loading Instagram Post In a major update on Saturday, a representative for Instagram said 'we're sorry that we've got this wrong' and reactivated Zufi's business page. 'We've reviewed your account and found that the activity on it does follow our community standards on child sexual exploitation, abuse and nudity, so you can use Instagram again,' the company told Zufi in a message. 'We're sorry that we've got this wrong and that you weren't able to use Instagram for a while. 'Sometimes we need to take action to help keep our community safe.' 'We made a mistake' The company uses a combination of people and technology to find and remove accounts that break its rules. Instagram said its priority is to keep its platform both safe and respectful, but conceded that 'our technology made a mistake' this time. After weeks of appeals, which included a visit to the Australian headquarters of Instagram's parent company Meta in Sydney, Zufi said he was excited to have the issue resolved. 'For four weeks I felt silenced. I was locked out of something I'd poured my heart into,' he told 'Getting the account back isn't just about logging in again, it's about getting a part of myself and my business back. 'It feels emotional but it feels right.' Zufi said his business relies on exposure from platforms like Instagram 'to survive', and said the the social media company's safety and security features need to improve so situations like his do not happen to others. 'You can't run systems this massive and not have better safety nets for when they get it wrong,' he said. 'There needs to be a faster, more human process, because when you shut down someone's page, you're not just flipping a switch, you're shutting down their income, their reputation and their story. 'That shouldn't happen without answers.' Zufi marked his triumphant return to Instagram with a video featuring the caption: 'I'M BACK. Tried to block the Boss? Nice try. The Cannoli Boss doesn't fold — we rise, we reload, and we come back stronger than ever.' 'I'm not slowing down, I'm levelling up,' he told 'There's more pop-ups on the way, new flavours and some exciting things near. 'I graduate soon so there's definitely big stuff coming.'

The majority list their addresses as within the broader Hawthorn suburb, but not right next door. Although separate to the planning process, the petition was tabled at Boroondara Council's meeting last Monday ahead of a final vote on an amended permit next week. But council officials have already recommended elected councillors reject it. 'The request for extended trading would result in activities on the site extending into more sensitive times and is not supported in this location, as echoed by objections made by nearby residents,' a report said. It added that key concerns included noise from patrons and vehicles, traffic and parking congestion, disruption to the 'quiet and family-orientated character' of the area, and antisocial behaviour stemming from alcohol being served. Laskie, however, said his restaurant would not be a boozy bar. Instead, he said his 'modest' application would facilitate a 'family-focused, seated dinner service to our existing clientele'. 'We believe that this would add a currently unavailable amenity to the area, that is in keeping with the character of the neighbourhood, and will only enhance the experience of its residents,' the Laskie siblings said. 'If granted these hours, we would close food service around 8pm, allowing for diners to enjoy their meals, coffee and drinks in a quiet and unrushed environment, as well as allowing staff to prep the cafe for the morning, clean, and close by 10pm.' They described the objections as 'unwarranted, though understandable fears of select individuals'. 'We will continue to adapt our business to suit locals and the neighbourhood that underpin Barton Milk Bar's identity,' they said. A council report found the Laskies had demand for expansion, but added: 'It is difficult to determine whether the demand is derived from a local community need.' The Laskies remain hopeful councillors will overrule this planning advice. Three objectors, who wanted anonymity to avoid inflaming neighbourhood tensions, indicated an appeal to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal was possible if councillors supported the plan. A City of Boroondara spokesperson said the municipality's planning scheme required 'a wide range of factors' be considered, but declined to comment further ahead of council's vote. 'These factors include amenity impacts, benefits to the local community, zoning controls and guidance, and submissions received during the public consultation period,' they said. Baillieu, the former Victorian Liberal leader, added: 'Only a completely out-of-touch council could block a complete success.' Councillors – including Baillieu's son, Rob, who was elected in a local teal wave last year – will decide the issue on Monday night.
