Slippery Rock star invited to Steelers rookie minicamp
Faulkner, who is the son of Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner, attended the University of Pittsburgh's NFL pro day earlier this spring.
'This is awesome for Eddie and for our program to have another guy getting a shot to experience an NFL minicamp,' said SRU head coach Shawn Lutz. 'Not only was Eddie an excellent player that did it all for us on the field over the last four years, he was also an Academic All-American that excelled in the classroom and represented the true meaning of a student-athlete.'
Faulkner was a two-time All-PSAC honoree as a defensive back and also earned All-Region and All-America honors as a safety following the 2023 season.
He started all 28 games over the last two years, helping The Rock reach the national quarterfinals in 2023 and the national semifinals in 2024.
Over four seasons, Faulkner appeared in 52 career games with 36 starts. He tallied 160 total tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 7.0 sacks, five interceptions and 17 passes defended. He also forced seven career fumbles, recovered four fumbles, blocked one kick and scored one defensive touchdown.
Faulkner becomes the 10th Slippery Rock player to receive at least an invite to an NFL Rookie Minicamp since 2015.
The Steelers' rookie mini-camp runs from May 9 to 11.

Bears reportedly sign Caleb Williams' backup Tyson Bagent to 2-year, $10 million contract after strong preseason
One of the Chicago Bears' biggest player-development wins in recent memory is being rewarded with a new contract. Backup quarterback Tyson Bagent reportedly signed a two-year, $10 million extension with the team Wednesday, per multiple reports. Bagent's deal can inflate to as much as $16 million based on incentives, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. After starring at Shepherd, a Division II college, Bagent, now 25, joined the Bears as an undrafted free-agent ahead of the 2023 NFL season. He worked his way up the depth chart in training camp, eventually winning the No. 2 job behind Justin Fields. Bagent was pushed into action immediately, starting four games for the Bears after Fields was sidelined with an injury. Bagent won his first start with the team, becoming the first Bears quarterback since Craig Krenzel to win his inaugural NFL start with the franchise. The start also made Bagent the first undrafted Division II quarterback to start an NFL game since 1950. Bagent led the Bears to a 2-2 record during his starts, though he saw his production decline after the promising debut. He finished the season completing 65.7 percent of his passes, with three touchdowns against six interceptions. Bagent retained his role as the team's backup in 2024, but barely saw any time on the field after the team selected Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Bagent threw just two passes, completing both of them. The hiring of Ben Johnson put Bagent under an even bigger microscope. With a new coaching staff in town, Bagent needed to prove himself as the best backup option behind Williams. Both quarterbacks looked the part during the team's 38-0 preseason blowout win over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Following Williams' strong performance, Bagent came on in relief and immediately led the team to three straight scoring drives. He finished the contest 13 for 22, with 196 yards and a touchdown in the win. Bagent's reported extension seems to indicate his work in camp — and in the preseason — won over Johnson's staff. That wasn't a guarantee, as the team signed veteran Case Keenum in the offseason. Keenum missed the team's second preseason game due to an injury, though could stick around in a mentor role to both Bagent and Williams during the regular season. While Bagent's play has made him a fan favorite, he's not expected to see the field this season. Williams is fully entrenched as the team's starter and deserves an opportunity to show growth after an uneven rookie season. In his brief bursts of playing time, though, Bagent has looked like a capable backup quarterback. That's quite the accomplishment for a player every team passed on in the draft.

New PGA Tour CEO looks to a future of 'significant change' that may not include LIV Golf
ATLANTA — Brian Rolapp, newly minted PGA Tour CEO, comes to the golf world after more than two decades in the NFL, and to borrow a term from his old gig, he's throwing downfield on first down. 'You just have to constantly innovate,' Rolapp said Wednesday morning in his introductory press conference at the Tour Championship. 'I think if there's anything I learned at the NFL, it's that … honoring tradition but not being bound by it. I think that level of innovation is what we're going to do here.' Rolapp has only been on the job for 18 days, but still touched on a range of topics: competitive balance, golf's postseason, the PGA Tour-LIV divide, the golf ball rollback and more. He didn't go into particular detail on any one aspect, but he's clearly focused on a philosophy that change is necessary, and change is coming. 'My fan letter on Day 1, I said, we're going to honor tradition, but we will not be overly bound by it. Now we're going to start turning that blank sheet of paper into action with an idea to aggressively build on the foundation that we have.' That aggressive plan of action does not appear, in the near future, to include LIV Golf, which claims many of the world's best and best-known players, including Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm. The breakaway tour split off from the PGA Tour in 2022, but a year later, in June 2023, the Saudi Public Investment Fund and the Tour, then led by Jay Monahan, announced a 'framework agreement' that would provide a pathway for the two tours to reunite. Since then, however, all momentum for a reunification has stalled, with nothing in the way of updates or progress coming from either camp. Rolapp and new LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil are longtime friends, but Rolapp's public statements Wednesday seemed to suggest that the Tour has far higher priorities than a reunion, regardless of who's in charge at LIV. 'My primary focus is going to be on strengthening the Tour, and 'blank sheet of paper' means blank sheet of paper,' he said. 'Whatever [strengthens the Tour], I'll pursue aggressively. That's how I view it.' Later, he delved slightly deeper: 'I'm going to focus on what I can control. I would offer to you that the best collection of golfers in the world are on the PGA Tour. I think there's a bunch of metrics that demonstrate that, from rankings to viewership to whatever you want to pick. I'm going to lean into that and strengthen that.' The Tour, frankly, has more pressing issues than LIV Golf, like maintaining momentum and capturing eyeballs in a highly competitive media (and social) environment. 'Anybody who's in the sports business, their general competition is for the mind share of sports fans and for their time and to do that in a complicated world that is increasingly disrupted by technology, where you have a million things to do with your time, a million alternatives,' Rolapp said, in response to a question from Yahoo Sports. 'That is one reason why sports continues to be so valuable. There's very few things left in this country that can aggregate millions and millions of people doing one thing in a communal experience.' On a broader scale, Rolapp announced as one of his first acts as CEO the creation of a Future Competition Committee, designed to create, in his words, 'the best professional golf competitive model in the world for the benefit of PGA Tour fans, players and their partners.' No small feat, that, but he's managed to lock in Tiger Woods as chairman, plus players including Patrick Cantlay and Adam Scott, and outside voices including Theo Epstein. The Tour's future in Rolapp's eyes will be based on three key principles: parity, scarcity and simplicity. In other words, level the competitive field, bring the best players together more often, and have them play in a format that's easy to understand and logical from the beginning of the season to the finale. It's a tall order, a significant challenge, and Rolapp has obstacles ahead both externally and internally. But he's made his priorities clear: If he has his way, the PGA Tour as it exists today will not be the same PGA Tour in a year, two years or five years. 'The goal is not incremental change,' Rolapp said. 'The goal is significant change.'

Eagles release WR to make room for another linebacker
The Eagles are still making moves as the team takes the field for the final training camp practice, and have brought in LB Chance Campbell and released WR Giles Jackson as a result. Campbell spent his first three seasons in the league with the Tennessee Titans (where he overlapped with current Eagles linebackers coach Bobby King), but landed on IR in two of them. He did play in four games his second season in 2023, but was only a small contributor. Now he'll get a chance to show what he can do on the Eagles final preseason game on Friday. It is interesting that the team would release a wide receiver to make this move. The Eagles did trade for John Metchie days prior, but Johnny Wilson had to be carted off the practice field on Tuesday, so the depth at WR isn't that great. Still, the team has less than a week to cut down to a 53-man roster, and probably have enough receiver talent to consider.
