Young couple found dead in Sirsa hotel, suicide suspected
Surendra ran a grocery shop in his village, while Manju was a second-year B.Ed student at Dera Sacha Sauda College. Her father is a constable in Haryana police, posted in Fatehabad.
According to investigators, Surendra checked into Hotel Legend on Monday morning, booking room number 203 using Manju's ID. He arrived alone, and Manju joined him in the afternoon. Hotel staff reported that the pair stayed inside their room throughout the day and did not order any food. The incident came to light around 1:30 am, when Manju's family, searching for her, reached the hotel. After confirming her stay with reception staff, they alerted police through Dial-112.
On arrival, police broke open the locked door and found the couple dead. The bodies were sent for post-mortem, and the hotel room was sealed. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the deaths.

Maha police issues circular for protection of cattle traders
Mumbai: Following talks with cattle traders protesting increasing attacks from cow vigilantes, Maharashtra police have issued a circular saying only police will have powers to take action against illegal or unauthorised transportation of animals. The order specifies that it is illegal for private individuals to stop and check vehicles carrying cattle. The circular by special inspector general (law and order) Manoj Kumar Sharma came after a meeting where deputy CM and NCP chief Ajit Pawar issued instructions to stop gau-rakshaks (cow vigilantes) from checking livestock vehicles and harassing transporters and those involved in livestock business. A week ago, a delegation of the Federation of Maharashtra Muslims and the Qureshi community, which is traditionally associated with the meat trade, called on Pawar alleging harassment and torture, mainly in rural areas. They spoke of cases foisted on them. They said this had impacted the trade in livestock and animal products. ‘1930' Mumbai cyber police helpline receives up to 2,700 calls a day
Mumbai: The '1930' Cyber Helpline receives 2,500–2,700 calls daily, with about 200 being complaints from victims ranging from govt officials and bankers to even police personnel, said deputy commissioner of police (Cyber) Purshottam Karad. In the last six months, cybercrime victims in Mumbai lost Rs 600 crore to various scams, compared to Rs 750 crore in the whole of last year. In 2024, cyber police recovered Rs 250 crore, while this year's half-year figure has already crossed Rs 109 crore, largely because the victims reported incidents within the "golden hour" period. The '1930' helpline, linked to the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, is designed to act during the "golden hour" — the brief window when fraudulent transactions can still be frozen before disappearing into mule accounts and offshore wallets. The city's five regional cyber cells have registered around 900 cases so far in 2025, down from 1,400 cases in 2024. Cyber Crime Cell officials said the detection rate could improve further with greater public awareness and timely reporting. HC rejects bail plea of Vinay Choubey
Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court rejected the bail petition of suspended senior IAS officer Vinay Kumar Choubey on Thursday. The court of Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi rejected Choubey's petition after not finding any merit in it. Choubey challenged his arrest by the anti corruption bureau (ACB) and mentioned in his petition that the FIR lodged against him is not maintainable and should be dismissed. Choubey was arrested in May this year for his alleged involvement in the Rs 38 crore liquor scam. He had challenged his arrest in the high court on the point that the ACB has not followed guidelines of the Supreme Court to be observed prior to arrest of an accused.
