Weaker Habagat Brings Brief Break from Rains

With the weaker habagat, most parts of the country will experience sunny and warm weather through midweek. However, localized thunderstorms are likely over Palawan, Negros, and Mindanao on Monday, expanding to parts of Visayas and Luzon by Tuesday and Wednesday.
By Thursday, the trough or outer band of the approaching disturbance could bring scattered rains to Bicol and the Visayas. These rains may spread to the rest of Luzon by Friday and Saturday. Northern Luzon may continue to experience scattered rains by Sunday due to the same trough.
Metro Manila will remain mostly sunny and dry, especially in the morning and around midday, with chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms from Wednesday through the weekend.

‘Pepito' now out of PAR
Severe Tropical Storm 'Pepito' (international name: Man-yi) is out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday noon, Nov. 18, the state weather agency reported. In a 3 p.m. update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said 'Pepito' was outside the weather disturbance monitoring zone by 12 p.m. In an earlier weather bulletin, Signal No. 1 was still up over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, the western portion of Pangasinan, and the western portion of Abra. Heavy rainfall over Batanes is still expected on Monday, PAGASA also said. Last spotted with peak winds of 110 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 125 kph, 'Pepito' was less strong on Sunday evening after crossing Luzon. 'Pepito,' which became a super typhoon, made two landfalls at the weekend: first in Panganiban, Catanduanes on Saturday evening, and in Dipaculao, Aurora on Sunday afternoon. PAGASA said 'Pepito' may become a remnant low on Wednesday as the incoming northeasterly wind surge creates an unfavorable environment for the tropical cyclone.

Ofel intensifies to Super Typhoon; signal no. 5 hoisted in Cagayan
Typhoon Ofel has intensified into a Super Typhoon, prompting the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) to raise Signal No. 5 over Cagayan province. Super Typhoon Ofel will hit eastern Cagayan or northern Isabela later today. PAGASA warns residents of very destructive winds, torrential rains, and storm surges as the storm moves over Northern Luzon. There could also be widespread serious damage, flooding, and landslides in affected areas. Super Typhoon Ofel could also hit the Babuyan Islands late Thursday or early Friday. Once It hits Babuyan, it will recurve, turn northwestward, and possibly weaken before heading to the southern Ryukyu Islands next week. Meanwhile, another Tropical Storm Man-Yi from the south of Japan may move towards the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and take up the local name 'Pepito' on Thursday evening. This Tropical Storm may also intensify up to Super Typhoon strength and hit Bicol on Saturday (Nov 16) and over Central Luzon on Sunday (Nov 17).
