Man Utd star agrees to leave but Ruben Amorim told to block transfer
Ruben Amorim has been urged to make a U-turn and intervene after Rasmus Hojlund reluctantly agreed to leave Manchester United. Hojlund, 22, recently insisted he intended to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the team despite the club's interest in Benjamin Sesko. Manchester United have since completed a £74m deal for Slovenia striker Sesko, raising more doubt over Hojlund's future at the club. United spent £72m on Hojlund back in 2023 but the Danish forward has flopped at Old Trafford, scoring just four Premier League goals last season. Amorim left Hojlund on the bench for United's final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina on Saturday, instead opting to play Mason Mount as a false nine. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Sesko watched on from the stands after being unveiled to the fans inside Old Trafford and is expected to come straight into the side for United's Premier League opener against Arsenal next weekend. Following the arrival of Sesko, Hojlund has reluctantly accepted his Manchester United career is over, according to talkSPORT. Italian giants AC Milan are open to signing Hojlund, who enjoyed a promising season in Serie A before his miserable spell in the Premier League. Hojlund reportedly rejected a move to RB Leipzig earlier in the summer during United's talks for Sesko but has now changed his stance and agreed to leave. Manchester United want around £30m for Hojlund but AC Milan are hoping to secure his signature on an initial loan deal. Ex-Old Trafford striker Dimitar Berbatov admits Hojlund has been a disappointment but says he could benefit from the competition from Sesko's arrival should he stay put. 'I am excited with Sesko going to United, but at the same time I am a bit cautious because Hojlund and Zirkzee were performing great in their previous clubs. 'I watched how they moved, how they bullied defenders, how they scored goals, but then going to the Premier League, they found it difficult to adjust. 'And the stats speak for themselves, right? Three goals, four goals, for a striker you are going to be disappointed with yourself. 'It was difficult campaign for them and it's a difficult period that they are going through, and now with another striker coming in, of course the competition is going to be high. Victor Lindelof (released) Jonny Evans (released) Christian Eriksen (released) Marcus Rashford (Barcelona on loan) Other Man Utd players linked with summer moves: Antony, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia 'When you buy a striker now you start to think, 'Well am I going to play? Is my place in United? Am I still belonging here? Do I need to start looking for a club?' 'Or maybe then you start thinking, 'Alright, I like the competition. Now I'm going to show you. Now I'm going to fight for my place. Now I'm going to bring the fire.' 'So it's a two-way scenario. You choose the one I said or the other. So let's see what they are going to bring to the table as well. 'You always want the competition, but at the same time, as a striker, because we think we're special, you need to feel welcome and wanted in the team, by the coach, by everybody. More Trending 'Then your motivation is going to be higher and your self-esteem is going to be higher. It's a lot of factors. It's not easy, but it's all in the head.' Fellow former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre also believes it would be a mistake to offload Hojlund before the transfer deadline. 'Marcus Rashford has gone and there are not a lot of strikers around, Joshua Zirkzee is a different type of striker that doesn't make those runs in behind the defence,' Silvestre told Hajper. 'He is another type of player for certain games, certain opposition. But no, you need competition, need quality, so I wouldn't rush into sending Rasmus Hojlund out on loan if Sesko signs. Absolutely not.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Follow Metro Sport for the latest news on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Chelsea offer two players in deal to sign £60m star Xavi Simons
Chelsea have offered RB Leipzig two players as they look to agree a deal to sign Xavi Simons. The Blues have already spent over £200m this summer but intend to complete more business before the summer transfer window closes. Chelsea identified Simons as a target earlier in the summer and have been in constant talks with Leipzig over a deal. Simons, a talented playmaker, has scored 21 goals in 76 appearances for the Bundesliga club and earned 28 caps for the Netherlands. RB Leipzig value Simons at around £60m but Chelsea are keen to drive that price down and are even willing to send a player the other way. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – sign up, it's an open goal. Chelsea have mentioned Christopher Nkunku during negotiations and believe the German club are interested in a deal for their £52m signing, according to The Guardian. Nkunku was named the Bundesliga Player of the Season and was the league's top goalscorer before his miserable spell at Stamford Bridge. The 27-year-old has been linked with Bayern Munich and multiple Premier League clubs over the last six months and wants a move to revive his stuttering career. Despite his struggles in west London, Chelsea still value Nkunku at around £40m so would be happy to pay a sizeable fee on top for Simons. RB Leipzig have also expressed interest in Chelsea academy graduate Tyrique George, who made his first-team debut last season and was on the bench as the Blues won the Conference League final against Real Betis. Jamie Gittens – £48m from Borussia Dortmund Joao Pedro – £55m from Brighton Liam Delap – £30m from Ipswich Town Mamadou Sarr – £12m from Lyon Dario Essugo – £18m from Sporting CP Estevao Willian – £29m from Palmeiras Kendry Paez – £17m from Independiente del Valle Jorrol Hato – £37m from Ajax The 19-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since the age of eight and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea are open to using him as part of the deal. George has indicated he is keen to explore his options this summer as he knows regular first-team football will be hard to come by next season. Given Chelsea's heavy spending this summer, any deal for Simons will rely on player sales, with Nicolas Jackson also put up for sale. Jackson was linked with Manchester United before they spent £74m on Benjamin Sesko and remains a figure of interest to Newcastle. Newcastle are considering their options for the No. 9 position after Alexander Isak informed the club he wanted to leave and join Premier League champions Liverpool. The Carabao Cup holders have told Isak he will not be sold but Newcastle are at least making some arrangements for his sudden departure. More Trending Chelsea initially slapped a staggering £80m price-tag on Jackson but have already slashed that figure to drum up interest. Enzo Maresca's side thumped AC Milan 4-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in their final pre-season friendly before the Premier League starts on Friday. Chelsea, who finished fourth last season, kick-start their 2025-26 campaign next Sunday against London rivals Crystal Palace. As well as pursuing Simons, Chelsea are still interested in signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Crisis club slaps hefty price tag on Northern Ireland goalkeeper as top clubs monitor situation
While Wednesday were keen to keep the talented young shotstopper, the Championship club are now considering cashing in on their most valuable playing asset. Scottish giants Rangers, recently relegated Leicester City and Southampton – where Pierce's brother Shea Charles plays – are all keen on the 20 year-old goalkeeper. Charles started Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Leicester City on Saturday, with Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes on target for the Foxes. Charles has played eight times for Northern Ireland and is likely to be Michael O'Neill's starting goalkeeper for the forthcoming World Cup Qualifying campaign. Meanwhile, Charles' international teammate Isaac Price is on a high after scoring the winner for West Bromwich Albion on Saturday. The Baggies defeated Blackburn Rovers 1-0 at the Hawthornes with Price scoring the only goal of the EFL Championship game. He said: 'It just sat up nicely for me. I won the second ball and just passed it into the net.' Although Price is on the radar of several bigger clubs, the man with nine international goals is focused on helping West Brom achieve their ambition of winning promotion the Premier League this term. Reflecting on the 1-0 win over Blackburn, Price said: 'It's a great feeling. The job was to get three points, how we did it didn't really matter. 'It was a tough game and we didn't play as much football as we would have liked, but we got the job done. I think we were the better team and could have scored two or three more. 'The second half was tough, as Blackburn were going for it but we dug in well. 'Sometimes winning that way is better for morale than a 4-0 win. 'We have a big game away to Wrexham next week, which is one to look forward too.'
