Notre Dame guard Billy Schrauth named to the 2025 Lombardi Award preseason Watch List
Recognized as one of the strongest units in the country, the O-Line is anchored by guard Billy Schrauth, who was named to the 2025 Lombardi Award preseason Watch List.
Schrauth and the Fighting Irish offensive line have the luxury of facing one of the better defensive lines in the country every day in practice, so it comes as no surprise that this O-Line is prepared for the nation's best week in and week out.
The Lombardi Award Committee's preseason list features 90 of the nation's top linemen and linebackers based on previous performances and potential for the coming season. This season's honorees include 18 defensive tackles, 17 defensive ends, 19 linebackers, 18 offensive tackles, 10 offensive guards (including Schrauth), 6 centers and 2 tight ends.
Established in 1970 in memory of the legendary Vince Lombardi, the award is presented to outstanding linemen who best epitomize their values of leadership, courage, performance, and discipline on and off the field.

Three-time Pro Bowl WR Odell Beckham Jr. has drawn interest from several teams and plans to play somewhere in 2025, per OBJ posted himself, he is not retiring, and he continues to train in anticipation of being on the field soon. Several teams are reportedly interested in a two-time All-Pro wide receiver who's eyeing a return to the NFL — could the Pittsburgh Steelers be one of them? On Wednesday, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that WR Odell Beckham Jr. is looking to play in the 2025 season and that several teams are interested in the former 2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Beckham is best known for his four-year stint with the New York Giants — from his viral one-handed catch against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014 to his three Pro Bowl selections during his time in Big Blue. The talented wide receiver was traded to the Browns in 2019 and has since played for the Rams, Ravens, and most recently the Dolphins in 2024. It's no secret that one of the weakest areas on the Steelers roster is at wide receiver. While the Black and Gold roster boasts several young, hungry wideouts, Beckham's veteran presence and proven track record of success could be a low-risk, high-reward move for the Aaron Rodgers-led offense in 2025. Mike Panasiuk was a star defensive lineman for the Spartans from 2016-2019, being the center piece for some very good Michigan State defenses. The Roselle, Illinois native ended up going undrafted in the 2019 NFL Draft. After going undrafted, Panasiuk attempted to latch on with the Las Vegas Raiders and Carolina Panthers as a defensive tackle, but nothing ever stuck. Now, the former Spartan has flipped sides of the ball and is getting another crack at the NFL. Panasiuk was an All-UFL performer in both 2024 and 2025 with the St. Louis Battlehawks as a center, being in the middle of the offensive line instead of the defensive line. This surge in performance on the offensive side of the ball has led to the New Orleans Saints being interested in the former Spartan, reportedly inking him to a deal. 'Most improved by far': Iowa football WR room praised by coaching staff
The Iowa football wide receivers have long been perceived as one of the weakest position groups for the Hawkeyes. The Hawkeyes haven't had a 1,000-yard wide receiver in 14 years, and despite having some decent talent in the room, they've yet to put it all together. It's not all on the wide receivers. They've had to deal with bad quarterback play and below-average play calling. But, it's still been a big weakness for the program for almost 15 years now. Heading into the 2025 season, it seems like optimism within the building is growing for the wide receivers room. While it may not look great on paper, there is talent in the room with graduate Jacob Gill, sophomore Reece Vander Zee, junior Sam Phillips, and senior Seth Anderson. The question is, can they put it all together with a new quarterback in town? And it seems like the Iowa coaching staff believes they can. Kirk Ferentz and Tim Lester both talked with the Big Ten Network crew when they came to Iowa City for their Iowa season preview show on Monday night. And they both had glowing things to say about the wide receivers heading into 2025. The comments from Ferentz and Lester are very interesting and provide some different insights into the wide receiver room entering the season. It's great to hear Lester say that the wide receiver room is the most improved room on the entire roster, but it's the second part of his quote that's the most fascinating. He wants the Iowa offense to be more 50/50 when it comes to rushing and passing, which would be a sharp pivot from the rush-first offense that Hawkeye fans have grown accustomed to under Ferentz. The fact that the wide receivers have taken a big enough step forward for Lester to say that is a good sign for that room. Ferentz's comments are also important, as he talks about the receivers earning the quarterbacks' trust this offseason. With a new quarterback in the fold in Mark Gronowksi, that's a big deal. The more that Gronowski trusts his receivers to make plays, the more opportunities they're going to get. That could open up more explosive passing plays for an offense that desperately needs it. While we'll still have to wait and see how the wide receivers play when the season kicks off, it's a really good sign that the coaching staff is super high on them. And who knows, maybe Iowa will have its first 1,000-yard season from a wide receiver since Marvin McNutt. If that happens, it means 2025 was a massive success for the Hawkeyes.
