World Series to Start on Oct. 24; MLB Confirms No Plans For Earlier Date
MLB last year said Game 1 would move up from Oct. 25 to Oct. 22 if the LCS ended by Oct. 19, when both leagues were scheduled to be through Game 5. But the New York Mets won Game 5 of the NL Championship Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 6.
Since the LCS expanded to best-of-seven in 1985, both leagues ended in four or five games in 1989, 2001, 2002, 2014 and 2022. Last year was the first in which MLB announced a flexible schedule.
Game 7 of this year's World Series would be on Nov. 1. The World Series ended in November in 2001, '09, '10, '15, '16, '17, '21 and '22 and '23, going as late as Nov. 5 in 2022.
The World Series is scheduled to start on a Friday for the fifth straight year. Before 2022, the Series had not started on a Friday since 1915.
NL Division Series will have an extra scheduled off day between Games 1 and 2, a format that allows a team to have the same pitchers start Games 1 and 4, and Games 2 and 5 on normal four days' rest. Last year, AL Division Series had the extra off day.
All four best-of-three Wild Card Series are scheduled for consecutive days from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at the side of the higher seed.
Twelve teams make the playoffs under the format that began in 2022. The top two teams in each league get first-round byes, while the No. 3 seed faces No. 6 and No. 4 plays No. 5. The higher seed will be home in each best-of-three series.
In the best-of-five Division Series, the top seed plays the 3-vs.-6 winner and the No. 2 seed plays the 4-vs.-5 winner. The Division Series will have the familiar format of the higher seed home for Games 1 and 2, and, if necessary, Game 5.
AL Division Series also will start Oct. 4-5 followed by travel day and switch to the other sites for games on Oct. 7-8. Game 5s would be Oct. 10.
NL Division Series start on Oct. 4, have an off day followed by a game on Oct. 5, then switch to the other cities on Oct. 8-9. After another travel day, Game 5s would be played Oct. 11.
The AL Championship Series starts Oct. 12 and the NL Championship Series the following day, with off days after Game 2s and Game 5s.

Although the team has found some momentum, having an 8-3 record in August, the Guardians are still one game behind the New York Yankees for the last AL Wild Card spot. With franchise players like Jose Ramirez and Steven Kwan leading the way for the Guardians in 2025, there's a lot of potential in Cleveland's future. With releasing its midseason rankings for MLB farm systems, Cleveland came in at No. 5. The Guardians are well-known for developing pitchers through their farm system. Players like former Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber, as well as current pitchers in their rotation, such as Gavin Williams, Logan Allen, and Tanner Bibee, are all players that the team drafted and developed into successful pitchers in the league. However, things look a little bit different this season. The Guardians' top prospects are filled with positional players. Cleveland has five Top 100 prospects that are poised to emerge as potential stars in the big leagues: second baseman Travis Bazzana (No.15), outfielder Chase DeLauter (No. 56), shortstop Angel Genao (No. 57), and first baseman/outfielder C.J. Kayfus (No. 59). Each offers major upside for the organization's future. C.J. Kayfus has already shown how impactful these young, up-and-coming players can be in the league after making his MLB debut on Aug. 2. In 10 appearances this month, the 23-year-old has a .258 batting average, .303 on-base percentage, .452 slugging percentage, and a .755 OPS while hitting one home run and five RBI. As time goes on, expect each of these developing stars to find a spot on this Guardians roster. Whether it's this season or in the future.

But over the last decade, Milwaukee has been hot, winning four crowns in that span, including three of the last four seasons (2021, 2023, 2024). The Brewers have yet to carry a division title to a World Series win, and last year they fell to the Mets in the NL wild card. Major League Baseball Yankees Could Place 1B Paul Goldschmidt on IL With Knee Sprain Published Aug. 14, 2025 2:19 p.m. ET share facebook x reddit link Paul Goldschmidt has a low-grade right knee sprain and the New York Yankees may place the veteran first baseman on the injured list ahead of his return to St. Louis this weekend. The Yankees will evaluate Goldschmidt during their day off and will decide before Friday's game against the Cardinals if he will be placed on the IL. "He's dealing with something so we'll see if it's an IL situation," manager Aaron Boone said after Wednesday's 4-1 loss to Minnesota. "He was pretty sore last night and this morning. Feels like he's doing quite a bit better right now so we'll see." Goldschmidt was injured chasing down a foul pop by Byron Buxton in the third inning of Tuesday's 9-1 victory. Goldschmidt overran the ball along the dirt track near the Yankee dugout and slipped before making the catch on the grass while slightly falling down. "When I kind of overran it and dove back, hit my knee on the ground I guess," Goldschmidt said. "I felt that it was sore yesterday but obviously was able to play through it." ADVERTISEMENT Goldschmidt stayed in Tuesday's game and hit a double in the seventh before being lifted with the Yankees holding an eight-run lead. "As I was going to going back to my position, I was like 'that kind of hurt,' but stuff like that happens," Goldschmidt said. "So just felt like I could continue to play, which I did and it was fine." Goldschmidt, who is hitting .404 off left-handed pitching this year, did not start Wednesday and did not pinch hit when Austin Wells batted and struck out against left-handed reliever Kody Funderburk in the seventh. Signed to a one-year, $12.5 million contract in December following six seasons with the Cardinals, the former NL MVP is hitting .276 with 10 homers and 40 RBIs in 112 games this season. He also has a .996 fielding percentage and has been charged with three errors in 745 chances this year. Ben Rice made his 26th start at first base Wednesday and Cody Bellinger has made two starts at first this season. Bellinger has started 273 games at first base during his nine-year career. "He's been a huge part of his team," Bellinger said about Goldschmidt. "He's a vacuum over there. I played first before and I'm really appreciative what he does on the defensive side." The Yankees are attempting to hold on to the third wild card spot in the AL, with the Guardians sitting one game behind them in the standings.
