Police investigate fatal shooting in Kansas City's Pendleton Heights neighborhood
Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Kansas City's Pendleton Heights neighborhood Friday night.
Officers were called to the 400 block of Park Avenue around 8:30 p.m. about a reported shooting. Police found a man lying in the road with gunshot wounds. Officers performed lifesaving measures but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
Police are investigating the death as a homicide. No one was in custody as of late Friday.
'Preliminary investigation revealed an interaction in the street between individuals that led to the victim being shot,' DiMartino said.
Investigators worked in the area Friday night looking for witnesses and surveillance footage.

The killing is Kansas City's 33rd homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. By this time in 2024, Kansas City had tallied 30 killings.

Kansas City man, Mexican national charged with methamphetamine trafficking
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City man and a Mexican national have been charged in federal court after investigators say they conspired to distribute several kilograms of methamphetamines earlier this month. According to the office of the U.S. Attorney of the Western District of Missouri, 37-year-old Roman Garcia-Parria, of Mexico, and 32-year-old Abraham Acevedo-Hernandez, of Kansas City, were each charged with conspiracy to distribute approximately 10 grams of methamphetamines during a controlled purchase on June 2, 2025. Woman sentenced for DWI crash that killed bicyclist in Riverside Separately, 40-year-old Trinidad Garcia-Parra, another Mexican national and relative of Roman, was also charged federally with illegal re-entry on Thursday, June 5, the U.S. attorney's office said. Trinidad had previously been removed from the U.S. two times. Man charged after deadly shooting at Kansas City convenience store
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Monday that a man from Kansas City has been charged with murder in relation to a deadly shooting that happened in March. Demarion Nichols was charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of armed criminal action. If convicted, he could spend up to 30 years in prison. Download WDAF+ for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV According to court records, officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to the area of St. John and Monroe Avenues on March 26 and found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. In March, KCPD identified the victim as 21-year-old Tracy Williams. The prosecutor's office said video surveillance footage showed Williams entering a store as a black Ford Fiesta arrived and backed into a parking spot. When he finally exited the store, a man, later identified as Nichols, exited the driver's side of the Ford and shot Williams as he walked by. The document claims he continued to shoot Williams even after he fell between two cars. The video footage then showed Nicholas walk back to his car and drive away from the scene. Detectives were able to find Nichols through social media and tracing information from his cell phone that placed him on the scene at the time of the shooting, according to the prosecutor's office.
